Our footprint spans a diverse range of ecosystems with unique characteristics, from sandy deserts to lush rainforests and virtually everything in between. These ecosystems support a rich biosphere, with unique environmental challenges, conservation needs, and safety risks associated with climate change. This year, we’ve partnered with eight Landcare Australia groups to fund tree planting, weed eradication programs, and workshops. Separately and in addition to this, we’re collaborating with industry leaders like The University of Melbourne to proactively update our bushfire risk modelling, helping to keep our communities safe. Armed with two decades of research, our Senior Engineer, Dan Martin and Engineering Manager, Lindsay McPherson, have successfully taken vegetable oil out of the kitchen cupboard and given it a whole new purpose: insulating transformers. Working with Monash University and Ausgrid, as well as our in-house team, they have proven that vegetable oil provides a safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly alternative to mineral oil. One major advantage is its higher fire point compared to standard mineral oil, making it extremely valuable at sensitive sites such as heritage locations, high-risk zones, and protected environmental regions. What needs to change to facilitate a faster and fairer transition to a secure and sustainable energy system powered by renewables? This topic will be discussed at the “Distribution Renewable Energy Zones: Oxymoron or the New Normal?” event hosted by CutlerMerz in Sydney next week. Our CEO, John Cleland will be part of the conversation alongside, Dominique van den Berg, CEO of Energy Networks Australia; Tim Jordan, Commissioner of the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC); Melanie Koerner, General Manager System Planning and REZ at AEMO Services; and Kasia Kulbacka, General Manager of Network Planning at Transgrid. The panel will be facilitated by Tim Edwards, Managing Director of Cutler Merz. . Registrations are essential: https://bit.ly/4fCb80n #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability

Completing delicate operations is something we do every day – but the ‘next stop op’ for an Osprey nest in Yamba was right up there when it came to planning and safety. In collaboration with Clarence Valley Council and the local community the nest was successfully relocated to a purpose-built stand-alone pole in a nearby park ensuring safety for the community, whilst helping to protect this vulnerable species. Thanks to the community and everyone involved - the birds have relocated to their new location, making this operation a soaring success. Collaboration and resilience were at the heart of the Charlotte Pass underground re-cabling project, completed earlier this year. Harsh environmental conditions, accessibility, time constraints and coordinating with community activity were just some of the challenges. We want to acknowledge the entire team involved that contributed to the success of this project. For risk of missing the many involved, we'll leave that to Jed Cutter and Darren Clark as you'll hear them speak to in this video. Enabling the clean energy revolution by connecting large-scale renewable projects to our existing distribution network is a sensible, cost-effective solution. It will help NSW and Australia meet emissions goals and ensure there’s adequate generation in place as coal-fired power stations close. This solution is cheaper for all consumers, can be implemented quicker and uses existing easements and infrastructure. New transmission lines are also required, but they will take time to build. How do we make it happen? It requires some simple adjustments in the way we use the existing distribution network to make it work. We are advocating for this industry change to support a faster, fairer energy transition.

Remember a world without television, mobile phones and where log fires were a main source of warming the room? Port Macquarie resident Kerry Atley - a former agronomist and manufacturing business owner - remembers this world. Listen to him discuss the importance of electrification, energy conservation and the impact energy use has globally in manufacturing and farming as well as the household budget. Join the conversation on the importance of sustainable energy practices and their far-reaching effects. The safety of our team and customers is always top of mind. Therefore, as part of Safe Work Australia's Safety Month, last week we held a "SafeTea" event in Port Macquarie. This enabled us to continue our conversations around safety across the organisation. This covered safety across work, cyber, fleet, public safety and electrical safety, as well as mental wellbeing, inclusion and diversity. Thank you to everyone who participated and to our partners from our Essential Giving Program Variety - the Children's Charity NSW/ACT , ozED - Australian Ectodermal Dysplasia Support Group, The Children's Tumour Foundation and Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service - Northern NSW for making this event such a success. We're dedicated to giving back to the communities where we live and work. Therefore, a huge shout out to members of our team who support Variety Australia through our Essential Giving program. Through the program employees make regular donations to selected charities via pre-tax, payroll deductions that are dollar matched, doubling the impact of individual contributions. Last week, the Hastings Secondary College, Westport Campus in Port Macquarie was a lucky recipient thanks to Variety Australia and these valued donations. Their team were presented with a modified community coach to support efforts to assist students facing chronic illness, financial hardship, or geographic isolation. Our General Counsel and Company Secretary, Martin English and Sustainability Officer, Clare Loney attended the presentation as representatives for our Essential Giving program. #CommunitySupport #Charity #RegionalNSW #PortMacquarie #CommunitySpirit #communities
