It's also a key area of focus for The Ocean Cleanup, which develops and scales technologies to extract plastic from marine environments. By deploying plastic-gathering fleets into ocean gyres, The Ocean Cleanup intends to remove 90 per cent of floating ocean plastic by 2040.
