The EDL Landfill Gas team had the pleasure of hosting David Davis, Victorian Shadow Minister for Energy, Affordability and Security and Member for Southern Metropolitan Region, and Cindy McLeish MP, Member for Eildon, on a tour of our Clayton power station south-east of Melbourne last week. EDL has operated a 12MW power station at Clayton South since 1995, which generates approximately 53 gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable electricity per year – enough to power the equivalent of about 10,000 homes – using waste gas captured from the now closed landfill owned by Cleanaway Waste Management. Methane-rich gas generated by decomposing organic matter buried within the rehabilitated landfill is captured by a network of wells that feed a bank of 12 generating engines, which in turn supply electricity into the National Electricity grid. Each year EDL generates more than 1,500 GWh of renewable electricity from our landfill gas power stations across Australia, North America and Canada and Europe. #renewableenergy #landfillgas #wastetoenergy

Some of our 2024 Winter interns recently visited our Browns Plains Landfill Gas (LFG) Power Station, south of Brisbane, to learn more about running a renewable energy plant. 📋 The group were led through their first TAKE 5 safety discussion before being escorted around the power station, and the gas field. 🛠The visit was a great opportunity to visualize first-hand the projects they are working on to identify efficiency improvements at EDL’s landfill gas collection networks around the world. ♻ 🔌 EDL operates 44 landfill gas power stations, with a combined generation capacity of more than 270MW that is used to power homes and businesses across Australia, North America and Europe. 👩🎓 We take great pride in our internship and graduate programs and strive to provide the best opportunities for university students to learn and grow their potential. 📢 Look out for future announcements about when applications will be accepted for EDL’s Australian Summer 2024 internship program.   To view all global career opportunities with EDL, please visit our Careers page: https://lnkd.in/g43__26c

During NAIDOC Week and beyond, we acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands where we operate, and the value of the relationships with all Indigenous Peoples across our workplaces, our business and communities. Our recognition of NAIDOC Week 2024 has included sharing the stories of some of our colleagues. Meet Shanara, a proud Kalkadoon, Mitakoodi and Waluwarra Woman from Kalkadoon Country (Mt. Isa).   Shanara joined the @EDL Team as an intern in 2021 and will very soon become a member of our Graduate Program after completing her degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering this year.   Shanara works in the fuels team where she has been modelling the gas field pipeline networks of EDL’s landfill gas to renewable energy sites in North America, to identify opportunities to improve gas flow efficiency.   For Shanara, this year’s NAIDOC theme is about “being openly loud and proud about her culture and identity, and a time to acknowledge and celebrate all that her family and ancestors have done.” “It’s also about the commitment to acknowledging, learning and preserving the rich culture and traditions of Indigenous Australia,’’ she said. #NAIDOC2024 #Keepthefireburning 

This NAIDOC Week, EDL is highlighting the work and experiences of some of our Indigenous colleagues. Meet Patrick, the operator of our power station that generates electricity for his hometown of Beagle Bay, on the Dampier Peninsula north of Broome in the Kimberely region of Western Australia. A proud Bunuba man, Patrick has lived in Beagle Bay all his life, and worked for EDL operating the local power station for six years. Patrick is part of our Remote Energy business, that integrates a variety of energy sources, including natural gas, wind, solar, LNG, diesel and battery storage, to power remote communities and industrial projects in Australia. Patrick and his wife have three children, a daughter aged 21 who lives at Fitzroy Crossing, and two sons, aged 18 and 10, who they enjoy taking camping on the beach and hunting and fishing. For Patrick and his family, NAIDOC Week each year is a time to gather and celebrate the traditions of their Aboriginal culture. #NAIDOCWeek2024 #KeepTheFireBurning

This NAIDOC Week, EDL is proud to join in celebrating the achievements of First Nations peoples and their commitment to practicing the oldest continuous cultures on Earth. The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week is “Keep the Fire Burning, Blak, Loud and Proud”; highlighting the proud and unyielding spirit of Australia’s Indigenous communities, inviting all to stand in solidarity and amplify First Nation’s voices. We are sharing the stories of some of our Indigenous colleagues, starting with Teale, a proud Wiradjuri Woman. Teale has always felt a strong connection to culture through art, with one of her earliest memories being her grandma teaching the art of dot painting. Teale began her career at EDL as an intern through the CareerTrackers program that supports pre-professional Indigenous university students and links them with employers. Teale is now a Project Manager working in the Continuous Improvement and Minor Projects team and was the inaugural Chair for EDL's Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group, which she proudly chaired for four years. During her almost 10 years at EDL, Teale has also been given the opportunity to work outside of the Engineering field in the Energy Markets and Clean Energy operations teams, including a few months of FIFO work at the Moranbah Power Station. For Teale, this year’s NAIDOC theme means “being unapologetically proud of our culture, keeping the knowledge alive and the conversation going.” #NAIDOCWeek2024 #KeepTheFireBurning

We are pleased to be supplying more #renewableenergy to local homes and businesses at Byron Center, Michigan, following expansion of our landfill gas power station at the South Kent Landfill. Addition of a third engine has increased installed capacity to 4.8 MW, to make beneficial use of more biogas coming from the landfill following expansion of the gas capture network by Kent County. The power station, which had operated with two engines since 2009, uses biogas captured from decomposing waste at the landfill, to generate renewable electricity, which is supplied to Consumers Energy, and into the local power network. #landfillgas #biomethane https://lnkd.in/g8S7bBCa

Congratulations to our EDL North America team members who have been recognized for their contributions to advances in predictive maintenance technology by service partner KCF Technologies, Inc. Regional Operations Manager, Jon Pfarr accepted on behalf of EDL the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award at the 2024 Manufacturing the Future Summit, hosted by KCF Technologies. EDL has engaged KCF Technologies to pilot and deploy their machine health platform at several of EDL’s renewable energy gas processing plants.
