Government Relations Services

Delivering a diverse range of specialist transport services to empower thriving communities in Western Australia.

About us

The Department of Transport is the lead agency for strategic transport policy, planning and investment in Western Australia. Together with our portfolio partners – Main Roads WA and the Public Transport Authority – we keep people and freight moving through an intricate system of roads, railways, airports, ports, shared paths and waterways. With more than 1,500 employees we have the expertise to provide and enable safe, accessible and efficient movement for the economic and social prosperity of Western Australia. Our dedicated teams of transport professionals provide integrated transport planning for moving people and freight in metropolitan and regional Western Australia and develop strategic transport policy in the fields of maritime, aviation, bike riding and walking and land transport. We are committed to creating opportunities for Indigenous individuals and businesses to share in the delivery of projects across the Transport Portfolio and, as an agency, support assisting disadvantaged people in remote areas of our State to obtain their drivers licence and gain access to employment and other social and economic opportunities. Our customer-focused frontline staff also deliver a range of transport services to the community including licensing functions for people, vehicles and vessels; regulating Western Australia’s on-demand taxi industry; developing and managing coastal infrastructure; keeping people safe in and around the water and administering a range of transport grants and subsidies. Our vision is to have the best integrated and intelligent transport services and solutions for the State, which supports our purpose to empower a thriving community. This work is guided by our core values of Collaboration, Wellbeing, Adaptability and Accountability.

Updates

  • A larger than expected amount of material has been dredged from Exmouth Boat Harbour to provide a safer, deeper channel at the entrance. The Department of Transport recently spent $1.6 million completing three months of maintenance dredging at the facility after surveying confirmed the channel was nearing the safe minimum width for some vessels. Just under 29,000 cubic metres of material was removed and, in another win for the community, placed on Town Beach to widen it and feed eroding beaches to the north. DoT’s dredging program is responsible for ensuring safe navigation at the State’s 38 coastal facilities https://lnkd.in/gsGHMAPG

  • Over $9 million in Driving Access and Equity Program (DAEP) grants are now up for grabs across WA! DAEP grants support local community- based organisations to work with the local community, helping address barriers that prevent disadvantaged people from getting a driver’s licence. These include things like limited access to licensed vehicles, driving supervisors and instructors, and access to licensing services. Since DAEP started, over 600 community members have secured their driver's licence and nearly 130 have gone on to secure employment. 👏 The program will expand into the Great Southern and South West regions for the first time allowing more community members to access the program. • WA is one step closer to walking, wheeling and riding across the Derbarl Yerrigan. 🙌 A major construction milestone for the Causeway Pedestrian and Cyclist Bridges project was recently achieved, with installation of the boomerang pylon. Once fully complete, the cable-stayed bridges will connect the Victoria Park foreshore at McCallum Park with Heirisson Island and Perth's CBD at Point Fraser. Exciting to see this significant active travel link taking shape, which will give people more choice in how they move to, through and around our city. Keep up to date with the project: https://lnkd.in/gKvxT3ju

  • A $69.2m contract has been awarded for the construction of a new northern breakwater at Bunbury's Casuarina Boat Harbour. As the centrepiece of the Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront (TBW) project, the 460-metre-long breakwater will create sheltered harbour waters, underpinning the rejuvenation of the harbour as a regional hub for the marine industry and delivering a significant community asset. 📣 Skippers! Beware of special arrangements while navigating the harbour when dredging begins in August. Construction of the breakwater is expected to begin later this year.
