  • Staff from the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation were fortunate to participate in the Department’s kick-off event for NAIDOC Week on Monday, giving them the opportunity to recognise and appreciate the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to our nation's culture. Director General Rebecca Brown welcomed Noongar Yamatji woman, Sharon Wood-Kenney who performed an Acknowledgement of Country and spoke of the importance of relationship building with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to mark the start of the event, which saw seven aboriginal owned and operated businesses showcased through the provision of a mini-market where staff were encouraged to speak with the stall holders and learn more about both their products and their culture. This event aligned with this year’s NAIDOC Week theme which is “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, loud and proud” and calls on all Australians to foster a society where the wisdom and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are fully valued and respected. The JTSI executive team was proud to support the development and delivery of this event for Departmental staff, ensuring everyone could listen, learn and engage in meaningful dialogue and thanks all those involved.
