Our Executive Leadership Group regularly venture out to Western Australia’s regions to connect with key stakeholders and visit significant projects in the area. The group was recently in the Mid West meeting regional staff and visiting some of the mining and energy projects that are contributing to positive social and environmental outcomes. These visits are a valuable way to learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing our regions, and we thank the local community and industry stakeholders for hosting us throughout the three-day visit.

✈ Our #RoamingGraduate recently embarked on her final grad journey, flying to Karratha to join forces with our liaison officer in the Pilbara, Anthony Anderson. The trip included a training session in Marble Bar for the spatial mapping system Tengraph, a visit to tenements in the area, and a tour of an active gold mine in Nullagine. “We were shown the different features of a gold mine’s life cycle, from the pit to the processing plant, the tailings storage facility, and even the gold room where the gold bars are poured,” Isabel said. Isabel also attended the 2024 Pilbara Summit, an annual two-day conference highlighting major projects and investment within the Pilbara region. “The event focused on the Pilbara’s clean energy transition and I was particularly interested to hear about several projects that have been proposed to replace the reliance on diesel, from electric haul trucks to portable solar powered batteries.”

Team members from our Resource and Environmental Regulation Group Ikae B. Pat Boss and Emily Cross were in Melbourne last week for Carbon Capture APAC 2024. Our very own Senior Geologist Julie Cass from Geological Survey of Western Australia (GSWA) took part in an engaging panel discussion about the strategic approaches to stimulate carbon storage. As the department starts developing the supporting regulations for the Petroleum Legislation Amendment Act 2024, it was an opportune time to meet with key stakeholders, including research organisation CO2CRC Limited, Mitsubishi Corporation and National Offshore Petroleum Titles Administrator (NOPTA).
