Thomas Astell-Burt is the Professor of Cities and Planetary Health at the School of Architecture, Design and Planning - University of Sydney, and he is ASPIRE’s Expert Chair of Nature-Based Solutions. Citing his own team’s national study of more than 5,000 people, Prof Astell-Burt explained how Australians have become so disconnected in these environments that they need help to re-connect with the things that nourish them, such as parks, libraries, and other community spaces, but particularly with nature. #EACH24 #SocialPrescribing #connect #nature #community

This is a shout out to Dr J.R. Baker, the team at Australian Social Prescribing Institute of Research and Education (ASPIRE) and a wealth of inspiring and engaging presenters who shared their collective expertise on social prescribing at the ASPIRE Conference #EACH24 At a time when our society is grappling with broad scale loneliness, mental health crises and an exhausted health workforce, this conference was uplifting in its offer of positivity through collaboration and partnership. It was a truly enlightening and inspiring 3 days. #socialprescribing #mentalhealth #communityhealth #EACH24 #communitywellbeing #preventivehealth #ASPIRE Dr J.R. Baker
A fantastic opening keynote from Prof Kate Mulligan. In short: - we know the problems we face -we know treating sickness is not the same as creating health -we haven’t moved away from sickness based models of care -we know social prescribing can strengthen community action and improve our wellbeing So now is the time for action, to reorient from pills and hospitals to community activation, contribution and health! Pharmacists are well placed to integrate #socialprescribing into community pharmacies, especially as they now have an "extended scope of practice," as explained by Jenny Kirschner, National Health Programs Pharmacist. This includes prescribing for common ailments, providing immunisations and medications. Pharmacists can spend time with people and have a holistic view their healthcare. They have the opportunity to interact with people from a range of socioeconomic groups, ages, ethnicities, physical health and mental health conditions. Jenny has worked as a health coach, as well as a clinical and retail pharmacist. Jenny is also the founder of Pharmacy Addressing Loneliness and Social-isolation (PALS). #EACH24 #Pharmacy #Pharmacist #community Pharmaceutical Society of Australia International Social Prescribing Pharmacy Association

We need structural change to make our communities healthier, more sustainable and liveable. #UrbanPlanning with a #PlanetaryHealth lens is key for #flourishing #cities. But we also need to invest in (re)connecting people to those things that nourish lives. Things that many take for granted or feel disconnected from, like #parks and #libraries, so that we all #flourish and no-one is left behind. How do we do that? #SocialPrescribing is the answer and #TheTimeIsNow. ... is more or less what I said in this panel discussion at #EACH24 in #Sydney. Great to share insights and learn from fellow panelists Genevieve Dingle, Yvonne Zurynski, Cindy Smith, and chairperson Sophie Scott OAM 🙏 Thanks to Dr J.R. Baker and the ASPIRE Australian Social Prescribing Institute of Research and Education for organising. Lastly, it was great to be back at the State Library of New South Wales. Libraries are #SocialInfrastructure and this is one of the best. Thanks to Caroline Butler-Bowdon and team for everything you do.
