Last week our friends at the Australian Cartoonists' Association marked their 100th anniversary with a reception at the State Library of NSW. The Association was the first of its kind in the world, connecting cartoonists across Australia and sharing insights from the industry. At the anniversary event, attendees commemorated the important role cartoonists play at capturing 20th and 21st Century Australian history and raised their glasses to the next 100 years. Happy 100th anniversary, Australian Cartoonists' Association! Photo: Cathy Wilcox and Rod Emmerson (ACA President 2000-2003)

Pearson Australia Product Management (K-12 Schools) Director Cam Salton shares his thoughts about the impact of Copyright Agency for our 50th anniversary. He says: "Every student deserves the best learning experience, with enriching, up-to-date resources to complement their studies. With the fees Copyright Agency collects from content users to distribute to its creator members ensures that Australian students have the best material available, closing the cycle of the creative ecosystem. We are very much looking forward to the next 50 years of being a member of the organisation." - Cam Salton, Director, Product Management (K-12 Schools), Pearson Australia Thank you for the kind words, Cam! #copyrightagency #50for50 #50yearsofsupportingcreators #supportingpublishers #50thAnniversary #CopyrightAgencyTurns50 #copyright

Today we remember Copyright Agency members and honour their work. Judith Whelan, who was a trailblazer for women in media. She was a highly respected and formidable journalist, and much-loved by her colleagues at the ABC and Sydney Morning Herald. We pay tribute to Judith, and extend condolences to her husband and children. Vale Euphemia Augustina Leoda Bostock, known as Phemie (1936 – 2024), a trailblazing Munanjali Bundjalung woman whose life was marked by her dedication to art, education, and activism. As well as her deep involvement in numerous Aboriginal organisations, Phemie was a Copyright Agency member who studied art and worked across various mediums, contributing significantly to the urban contemporary Aboriginal art scene. She was a founding member of the Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Cooperative. We also pay tribute to Copyright Agency member Lynne Spender, who recently passed away. She will be remembered as a feminist and teacher who went on to be incredibly influential as an author, editor, creative industries leader, and mentor to many - including authors Kathy Lette and Debra Adelaide.

Our 50th anniversary celebrations continue! On this occasion, we worked closely with our friends at @aatealeaconf to bring our story to English and Literacy teachers across Australia. Last night delegates at the @aatealeaconf in Adelaide heard from author, lawyer, and Copyright Agency member Alice Pung as she shared a few words on our 50th anniversary and her experience as a member and a @ReadingAustralia author. Thank you to Alice and the AATE/ALEA teams for helping us celebrate the moment together. Here’s to a brilliant conference!

Publisher Michael Bollen of Wakefield Press sums up the benefit we offer our members. He says: "The revenue created through Copyright Agency's mighty efforts is something we are grateful for. It helps us to keep creating Australian books. Working with Copyright Agency has provided excellent info sharing throughout my 35 years in this role as a publisher. I'll also always remember an author's gratitude when receiving assistance through the Cultural Fund. It's important to be a member because it ensures fair compensation for usages across the board." Thank you Michael! #copyrightagency #50for50 #50yearsofsupportingcreators #supportingpublishers #50thAnniversary #CopyrightAgencyTurns50 #copyright
