  • What an incredible day we had last Saturday at the Social Enterprise Council of NSW & ACT (SECNA) Social Enterprise Festival! 💥 Our CEO Marc Higgins and COO Martin Paech attended, and two of our social enterprises, Green Connect Illawarra and Soft Landing, hosted stalls, joining around 70 other NSW & ACT social enterprises on the day. 🌟 Highlights included chatting with passionate community members about our mission and services and connecting with other social enterprises. Green Connect General Manager, Robert Servine, says, "I loved hearing about the good work other organisations are doing and reconnecting with some that we've worked with in the past". 🌟 Soft Landing General Manager, David Petrie, spoke about our mission during a pitch session, empowering people to make a difference through their purchases and actions 🛏 He shared the message: “Everyone has the power to make change. You can recycle your old mattress, source #sustainable food or items, and ask your council what they’re doing to improve sustainability in your local community”. He says, “It was incredible to be in a space full of people sharing positive feedback about the work we do!” Thank you for having us SECNA Kylie Flament and for putting on such an amazing event to celebrate social enterprise 🎉 #SocialEnterpriseFestival #Business4Good #SocialEnterprise #SocialImpact #CommunityEngagement

  • We're excited to share we've recently gained funding from Women NSW to launch our RENEW Project ‘Rejuvenating Employment, Nurturing and Empowering Women’ in the Mid-North Coast region 🎉 This will be delivered as part of the NSW Government Return to Work Pathways Program (RTWPP), which aims to reduce barriers for women to enter or re-enter the workforce. Through this program, we'll: 💼 Employ five Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander women or girls on a 12-month fixed-term contract across our four Community Services. 💼 Work with these five women to address their barriers to employment through a flexible and culturally safe program that includes training, mentoring and assessment through an agreed Cert III. 💼 Support participants to build on-the-job skills and confidence, and achieve qualifications and lasting employment. The Hon. Jodie Harrison, NSW Minister for Women says, “Our government is committed to the economic advancement and empowerment of women and girls in our state. This grant does just that – supporting women who face intersecting barriers to workforce participation to become job-ready and secure sustainable employment”. Lisa Berry, our Community Services General Manager, says, “It has the potential to be life-changing for the women in this program”.  Read more about our RENEW project on page 10 of the Forster Fortnightly: https://lnkd.in/gzUMmgVK #ReturntoWorkPathwaysProgram #EmploymentProgram #SupportingWomen #WomenNSW

  • Our newly released Soft Landing Mattresses Matter – Sustainability Survey received over 1,000 responses from adult mattress consumers in Australia. What did the results reveal? That Australians truly care about responsible recycling and protecting our planet 🌏 Here’s what consumers told us 👇 ♻️️ 93% are eager to recycle their end-of-life mattresses responsibly. ♻️ 93% are more likely to purchase from a retailer that recycles their old mattress. ♻️ OVER 8 in 10 (86%) are ready to pay a premium for a new mattress if the retailer includes collection and recycling of their old one. ♻️ 96% say it’s important that their local Council provides a free mattress collection and recycling service through an Approved Recycler. ♻️ 62% say that sustainability is important to them when purchasing a new mattress.  ♻️ OVER HALF (56%) say it’s important that their new mattress is made with recyclable materials. ♻️ Only 26% have used a mattress recycling service in the past, but 65% would like to in the future.  ♻️ The top cited barriers to recycling are: lack of recycling services (58%), uncertainty of services available (54%) and cost (33%). The takeaway? 🛏️ Solving the mattress problem for good requires a whole-of-industry approach where mattresses are designed with sustainability and recyclability in mind. However, if we can raise awareness at the consumer level and support Australians to recycle responsibly, then we’ve won half the battle. 👉 Read the full report and download your copy here: https://lnkd.in/dN2_USte #MattressesMatter #Sustainability #SocialEnterprise #ReduceReuseRecycle #IndustryChange #AustralianStatistics #WasteManagement #FoodForThought #CircularEconomy #ConsumerAwareness
