🐟 CLS has been officially selected by the Papua New Guinea (PNG) National Fisheries Authority (NFA) as a partner to deploy a sustainable #fisheries initiative for small scale fishing vessels. 💡 We will be deploying our small-scale Vessel Monitoring System mobile transceiver unit, “NEMO”, and our Fisheries Monitoring Center (with a Search and Rescue feature). These solutions, already in use worldwide, will be leveraged to help the PNG government and authorities manage fishing activities and preserve resources. 🔎 It will also be used for scientific purposes to better understand the industry, manage stocks, and for fishermen safety. Implementing a sustainable fisheries policy in PNG is crucial for economic development and the well-being of coastal communities. 🦈 Last week the White shark community, along with our Argos expert Oliver Palin, was able to meet, share ideas & report on the progress of recent scientific studies during the White Sharks Global conference in Port Lincoln. 🛰 The use of the #Argos satellite system to track White sharks and study their migrations has proven crucial towards implementing effective conservation methods and defining protected areas. 💡 Powered by CLS, Argos has provided unprecedented insights on animal behavior to the scientific community for over 35 years and, with the upcoming launch of 25 nanosatellites providing near-real time data, will continue to help improve their understanding. 🙏 Big thanks to the organizers for the amazing cage dive experience with white sharks !
