We’re excited to have partnered with the Chamber of Commerce in presenting what was a wonderful event at the Westpac Economic Breakfast last Thursday. A big thank you to everyone who joined us at GMHBA Stadium for this year’s event. This year’s attendees had the privilege of hearing from Westpac’s Senior Economist, Justin Smirk as keynote speaker. Justin kept everyone in attendance engaged as he provided some very interesting insights on the current economic landscape. We appreciate Westpac’s ongoing support and Justin’s invaluable perspectives, and we feel confident that all in attendance had some terrific takeaways from the event. The breakfast was part of the Geelong Small Business Festival, with sessions running throughout the remainder of this week. We teamed up with Geelong Cats players, staff and members today to plant more than 600 native shrubs, grasses and trees along the Moorabool River. For the second consecutive year, the planting day took place at the Fyansford Common with the goal of restoring the land along the river. More than 80 per cent of the species planted on the day were shrubs and grasses, as they provide food and shelter for native wildlife, improve water quality and drainage, and reduce bank erosion. As the planted seedlings grow, they will provide essential habitat for reptiles, birds and insects as well as for larger animals such as koalas. 📸: Cr Elise Wilkinson, Cr Mellisa Cadwell and Cr Peter Murrihy took the opportunity to be a part of the revegetation project alongside Geelong Cats players, staff and members.

Ten Years of Dowel Jones is on now display at the National Wool Museum Geelong! Our councillors attended the opening to celebrate the ten-year anniversary of one of Australia’s leading design studios. Join founders Adam Lynch and Dale Hardiman as they transform a gallery into a house filled with their collaborative projects where everyone plays a part. Dowel Jones, which was founded in 2014, champions Australian-made design. Their approach to making furniture is dynamic and playful which is shown through the furniture, lighting, ceramics and textiles on display. Standout pieces include the Self Portrait Rug (made in collaboration with the Museum of Play and Art and GH Commercial) and Arcade Pendants (made by James Street Gallery). Catch the exhibition at the National Wool Museum until Sunday 24 November – open daily 10:00am to 5:00pm. Book your tickets online at 👉 geelong.link/nwmbookings 📷: Adam Lynch, councillors Melissa Cadwell, Anthony Aitken and Elise Wilkinson, Dale Hardiman and National Wool Museum Geelong director Padraic Fisher.
