Take a glimpse into the future of sustainable development, right here in the #CityofLight 🙌 Yesterday morning, Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas and our CEO Michelle Reynolds joined Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti MLA at the opening of Perth’s first timber-hybrid office tower, the WS2 building at Westralia Square. This state-of-the-art feat of engineering prowess was made possible through adaptive reuse and an innovative multidisciplinary approach to structural, mechanical and electrical engineering which enabled the 12-storey high tower to be built over an existing carpark. Compared to traditional demolition and concrete construction, the adaptive design and reuse of existing materials and foundational structures saved around 70 per cent of embodied carbon! Making the most of our Riverfront! The glittering Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) is one of Perth’s greatest assets. This year, we’re starting the conversation about how we can make the most of our treasured riverfront. Imagine a revitalised city park that sets a new standard, blending nature, biodiversity, culture, and the undeniable sparkle of the river. Community discussions will help to shape a new Riverfront Masterplan, which will bring the riverfront’s potential as a world-leading river park destination to life. This visionary initiative presents a unique opportunity for collaboration between the Australian and State Governments to enhance how our state and city integrate with the riverfront, creating lasting benefits for all.
