Good People in Power

About us

CitiPower and Powercor own and operate electricity distribution networks servicing 1.2 million customers while also enabling the renewable generation essential to transition to a clean energy future. Our networks play an important role in the energy supply chain by providing reliable, safe and affordable electricity supplies. This involves a lot of innovation in managing the increasingly complex and sophisticated system behind it. Our electricity networks are a crucial gateway to a clean energy future. Connections with renewable energy generators bring clean energy to industrial, commercial and residential customers. As more customers choose solar, batteries, electric vehicles or smart appliances, our networks are enabling new ways to generate, store, share and use power. Overlay this with the fact that our networks traverse some of Victoria’s highest bushfire risk areas and regions at risk from the impacts of climate change. We support customer choice while also keeping communities safe and maintaining system security and network stability. Our team of professionals in network strategy and planning, asset management, major projects, field operations, and IT are at the forefront of addressing these challenges. Join us today. Be a part of an industry leader that shapes the future for energy.

And isn't it a beauty 😍😍 We're getting ready to connect this substation to our network in the next couple of weeks. It'll support new development around the Paris End of Little Collins Street and will also provide critical support to the existing network to ensure our network is reliable.

Not often people get to go inside a newly built 2MVA ID substation in the heart of the city. Our team did a fantastic job and now we are ready to connect this substation onto our network.

Another opportunity to promote gender diversity in STEM fields and one we're proud to partner with! SuperHack works alongside our commitment to support young women in secondary school to explore the rewarding careers available in engineering and encourage future university and career pathways. There were a variety of impressive projects that dealt with environmental challenges such as fast fashion, energy efficiency, biodiversity, space debris and coral bleaching. Congratulations to Melbourne University Electrical Engineering Club (MUEEC) on a great event and to all the participants - we look forward to seeing what's ahead of you!

⚡ 💡 SuperHack 2024! 💡 ⚡ Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of hosting SuperHack, a make-a-thon competition that brought together young female, non-binary, and gender-diverse high school students in years 10 to 12 from across Victoria. This year's theme was to 'build a product to tackle an environmental challenge' and we saw a variety of impressive projects that dealt with issues such as fast fashion, biodiversity, space debris and coral bleaching. The participants' dedication, creativity and passion for environmental impact were evident through their teamwork and innovation. Guided by their dedicated mentors, teams from across the state spent the weekend brainstorming, designing, developing and pitching their brilliant prototypes.    The jam-packed weekend also featured workshops on Arduinos and pitching from our MUEEC team, talks from industry experts throughout SuperHack. We want to thank our speakers Jeanette Cheah 💁🏻♀️, Co-Founder and CEO of HEX, Henry Gibbens from Mott MacDonald and Gemma Boath, Vilanya Ratnayake, Jordan Yu and Jayn Wong from Telstra on the Q&A Panel for sharing their inspiring journeys and experiences in the STEM industry. Alongside our speakers, thank you to Jien Lynn Cheng and Harshita Soni for their time mentoring across the weekend. SuperHack would not be possible without our amazing sponsors. A massive thank you to Jane Street, Mott MacDonald, Telstra and CitiPower and Powercor for their generous support in making SuperHack 2024 a success, helping bring to life our mission of promoting inclusivity in STEM. Also a special thanks to Engineers Australia, HEX and the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Melbourne for their invaluable contributions. Congratulations to the winning teams from all categories, mentors and schools on the success of their hard work throughout the event. We look forward to seeing everyone again at next year’s SuperHack!

It’s NAIDOC Week and staff from Powercor’s Shepparton & Cobram depots celebrated by joining Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation for their ‘Dharnya Day’ in Barmah yesterday. We were very fortunate to be in attendance and it was a great opportunity to listen, learn and connect to the community during NAIDOC Week. The smoking ceremony, dancers and market stalls were amazing, and we had a great time putting on a BBQ for all attendees.   #NAIDOC2024 #YortaYorta #Barmah

Get to know another one of our Graduate Engineers: Anush! "I applied for the program because I'm very keen on renewable energy and what better way to get started than where it's all happening! I worked a year-long internship in the Non-Network Solutions team, and it was such a great experience I decided to get on board with the grad program to build on those learnings with other parts of the business too." A huge congratulations is also in order as Anush was the recent recipient of Monash University's Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering (ECSE) Final Year Project Award and the Wilson Transformer Company Prize for his final year project based on the pilot phase of our Hot Water Load Shift project.

We're excited to announce that we've completed our annual aerial inspections ahead of schedule, covering 77,000km of overhead wires across central, northern, and western Victoria.   Now we're gearing up for a second round of inspections focusing on re-flying nearly 4,500km of high voltage wires and other high priority areas.   Powercor’s Head of Vegetation Management, Ayce Cordy, says this secondary round of inspections will help further inform the cutting program ahead of the 2024-25 summer.   “For us to have finished our inspection program in June, it means we have more time to analyse the data and feed it through to our cutting crews so we can get the network in the best possible shape ahead of the hotter months.”
