Industrial Landscape Design – The Benefits of Well-Designed Landscapes Users gain a lot from a well-designed industrial landscape. The warehouse, industrial, and logistics property sector developments typically have inadequate landscapes. Landscapes are often an afterthought, and just the essential necessities are addressed. This needs to change dramatically given this sector of the property market have a vast footprint and are rapidly increasing in many cities due to the demand of online shopping and logistics. https://lnkd.in/gf-MzGsD Mermaid Sanctuary is a premium residential development in Mermaid Waters, Queensland. Developed by SKF Development Pty Ltd, the landscape aim for this project was to create a high quality landscape setting that identifies the site as a luxurious waterside residential address. The landscape character of the development is defined through signature Canary Island palm species (Phoenix Canariensis) and high-quality finishes which contribute to creating a relaxed coastal living experience. Additionally, the proposed water sensitive urban design solutions support healthy ecosystems to assist in reducing the impacts of human behaviour on the environment. https://lnkd.in/gA8_DuTZ A while back, Citicene partnered with Elevation Architecture to revitalize the Robina Anglican Church on the Gold Coast, Queensland. As part of this project, the parish aimed to enhance the site's frontage, improving its connection with the street and the surrounding community. Working closely with Elevation Architecture, Citicene crafted concepts to make the frontage more functional and seamlessly integrate it with the planned building renovations. Key landscape features included creating a welcoming entrance from the street, developing multi-purpose spaces for both site users and the public, and enhancing the existing memorial garden. This project highlights Citicene’s commitment to creating thoughtfully designed landscapes that enhance community spaces and foster stronger connections between sites and their surroundings. https://lnkd.in/gjBcZxUW Silk is a mixed use development positioned on Racecourse Road in Ascot, inner Brisbane. A combination of apartment living and commercial space, this development is in the heart of the Ascot community. The aim was to create a landscape that enhances and integrates with the contemporary architecture of the building. In addition to this, making a positive contribution to the streetscape and amenity of the locality was important. Vertical vegetation in the form of green walls within the foyer and entry points help to reduce the impacts of built form. External landscape spaces also provide buffering to neighbouring properties in accordance with the local plan requirements. The use of native plant species ensures a drought tolerant solution requiring minimal maintenance. Shaded areas of the internal concourse and walkways provide opportunities for lush subtropical planting incorporating a mix of native and exotic species. Located on Brisbane’s Northside, Brendale is a hub for small to medium industrial, commercial, and retail facilities. This project spans two adjacent lots, featuring a renovated warehouse and 11 newly developed individual tenancies. A key design element is the tiered landscape buffer along the road frontage, which provides both visual and acoustic separation between the building, hardstand, and the vehicles and pedestrians passing by. Each lot includes a paved seating area for staff, shaded by either vegetation or built structures. Where space allowed, additional turf areas were incorporated to further enhance the outdoor environment. Native vegetation was introduced to add visual interest for workers and to create habitats for local fauna. Strategically placed lush canopy trees offer shade and cooling within the carpark, while dense shrubs are used to screen walls, fences, and infrastructure from key viewpoints, such as offices, recreation areas, and entry points. https://lnkd.in/ghptZhqq L’Oréal has set ambitious, measurable targets for climate, water, biodiversity, and natural resources as part of their “L’Oréal for the Future” program, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality, reduce water consumption, and minimize environmental impact by 2030. Goodman developed L’Oréal’s first Queensland purpose-built distribution centre at Redbank Estate, providing a state-of-the-art facility in Brisbane to support the company’s growth and meet customer demand. The landscape design of the centre focuses on creating spaces that complement the new facility while fostering environmentally friendly, biodiverse environments with practical uses. Recycled timber sleepers were repurposed to create bench seats and landscape features. Decomposed granite surface finishes, vegetable planters, and corten steel edging contribute to inviting spaces where team members can congregate and relax. A meandering footpath guides users through the surroundings, encouraging exploration and a connection with nature. Livistona palms and shade trees add natural beauty, creating pleasant shaded areas for relaxation. By incorporating freeform design lines, natural elements, native species, and organic finishes, the result is a harmonious blend of functionality and sustainability. https://lnkd.in/ggbuYtdF Even warehouses deserve the right landscape design solutions to reduce heat and reflection effects. Citicene implemented this large scale trellis approach at the recent Bapcor Distribution Centre. These strategies, though relatively simple and cost-effective, make a significant difference to our suburbs and communities. They help reduce the urban heat island effect—an important focus for protecting our planet for future generations. https://lnkd.in/gc-xNxHA Green Star Crop Coefficient – How Sustainable is Your Landscape? Green Star is a rating system for all projects that provides an international standard for comparing the environmental impact and long-term sustainability of a development. A ‘crop coefficient’ (Kc) is used to quantify a crop’s water consumption. A landscape’s water consumption has the greatest impact on the Green Star credit rating. Both the plant species, as well as the irrigation system both impact the efficiency of water usage on the site. Calculating the Landscape’s Impact – Green Star Crop Coefficient A ‘crop coefficient’ is an agronomic multiplier to quantify the water requirements of plants. It is a number (between 0.1 & 1) and quantifies how ‘thirsty’ a plant variety is in any particular climate. A higher crop coefficient is given to a species that typically needs more water to not just survive, but also thrive. https://lnkd.in/gsfvNxQU Gateway@Murarrie is an Industrial Estate in Brisbane’s East. This estate is ideally situated amongst various industrial developments within Murarrie and in close proximity to the Gateway Motorway. Four independent warehouses were proposed for this development site each between 5,000 & 12,000 sqm. The office area of each warehouse includes outdoor gathering spaces to provide places for team members to congregate and enjoy. Utilising a native plant palette, organic shapes, design lines and materials, these landscape spaces provide suitable amenity for team members to take a break during their day. With a strong Australian native character, the landscape considers the natural environment utilizing striking species such as the Australian bottle tree (BRACHYCHITON rupestris), native grasses, bottle brush shrubs and ground covers and natural material such as steel edging and stabilised deco finishes. Other important landscape principles included specimen shade trees to car parks, landscape buffering and screening to retaining walls and neighbouring properties and an irrigation system that is designed to minimize water consumption throughout.
