On Tuesday 11th June, the CEVSOC Development Team (Rica Cabling, Sharon Boen, Arjuna Edirisinghe, Liam Hopper, Romy Brooks, Sumaiyaa Rahman) hosted the Welcoming Night for the 2024 CEVSOC Industry Mentoring Program. This event provided an opportunity for 28 mentees and mentors to meet, establish goals for the program and network. Additionally, students also had the chance to network and take a professional portrait. On Wednesday, June 26, CEVSOC’s Community team (Akshara Yogesvaran, Tiara Ekanayake, Henry Zhang, Sarah Pamatian, Pragya Maini, Elke Giordano, Claudia Lenzner, and Georgina Daisy Poulava) held the Women in Civil Networking Night in the Laing O’Rourke office in North Sydney. Students also had the chance to network with industry representatives from Laing O'Rourke, DT Infrastructure, Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering, Arup, Aurecon and PSM. We would like to thank DAN SU, Ravinder Kaur, Ellen Heath, Nicole Waterman, Giselle Massoud, and Jenny Austin for sharing their experiences during the panel discussion. We would also like to recognise CEVSOC’s Marketing team (Janice Li, Selina Li and Nicholas Wong), and the event photographers (Kush Prajapati and Natalie Tam), for their efforts in promoting and capturing the event. Finally, thank you to all of the students who attended. We hope you gained a deeper understanding of future career opportunities and the importance of gender equality in engineering.

On Thursday 6th June 2024, CEVSOC’s Development Team and Surveying Society UNSW held our annual Industrial Training Night where students were given an opportunity to gain more insight and knowledge into the mandatory industrial training process. Speakers from UNSW Industrial Training, as well as student and industry speakers were able to speak on their experiences and give tips for finding and carrying out the mandatory industrial training. The event had over 115 students, staff, and academics in attendance and was a great success. We would like to thank speakers from UNSW IT (Kesh Thangavelu), our student speakers (Lachlan Ho, Georgina Robinson, Sarina Ulrich) as well as our industry representatives from E3 Advisory, PSM, Aurecon and CMS SURVEYORS. We would also like to recognise the work of the Development team (Josh Oommen, Arjuna Edirisinghe, Emilio Abaya, Veena Jethwa, and Lachlan Chen) and Survsoc's organising team (Thomas Hatzenberg, Jasmine Cheng, and Claire Warren) for organising the event. On Wednesday 13th March, CEVSOC ran their annual Careers Fair with the help of the Development Team (Rica Cabling, Sharon Boen, Mary Chen, Yasiru Jayawardene, Arjuna Edirisinghe), where more than 300 students participated in networking with the 19 civil, environmental engineering and surveying companies in attendance during the event. Careers Fair provided students with the chance to learn more about the different career opportunities and pathways available to them, and gain valuable insight from industry representatives. We would like to thank all our industry partners for attending including Arcadis, E3 Advisory, TTW Engineers (Taylor Thomson Whitting), KELLER, Aurecon, Laing O'Rourke, Qubist Pty Ltd, Jacobs, Northrop Consulting Engineers, Douglas Partners Pty Ltd, Witt Consulting, PSM, RPS, SMEC, DT Infrastructure, Land Surveys, CMS SURVEYORS, WSP in Australia and Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering. On the 11th of December 2023, graduating Civil Engineering students enjoyed a spectacular final-year dinner at Dockside Sydney, hosted by the Socials team (Sue Kim, John Doumit, Jordan Yin, Ipsita Rawat, Liao Long, Joe Prendergast, Wilson Wu, Utsa Parajuli). This event brought over 120 students and industry professionals together to celebrate our newly graduated engineers, as they embark on the next step of their life journey. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our generous sponsors – PSM, Keller, ARUP, Jacobs, RPS, Aurecon, Qubist, and Turnbull - whose unwavering support and commitment to UNSW’s School of Civil Engineering helped shape this event’s success.

On Wednesday 25th October, the CEVSOC Development Team proudly hosted its annual Industry Networking Night at the UNSW Roundhouse. Students across all years had the opportunity to interact with a wide array of industry partners, gaining valuable insights about the engineering industry and the remarkable opportunities and people within it. During the night, students and industry partners also partook in a Spaghetti Tower Mashmallow Challenge, and showcased the collaboration spirit and engineering prowess of present and aspiring engineers. We would like to extend our thanks to our attending industry sponsors including ARUP, Aurecon, DT Infrastructure, Laing O’Rourke, Northrop, PSM, SMEC, and WSP. Thank you to all the industry representative who graciously shared their time and knowledge on the night. On Tuesday 17th October, the CEVSOC Development team (Dominic Ung, Arjuna Edirisinghe, Paul B., Olivia Bourke, Sissi Zhu, Anushka Sharma) hosted Closing Night of the 2023 CEVSOC Industry Mentoring Program, bringing an end to the program for the year. Mentees were provided with the opportunity to evaluate their individual progress and achievements during the program and consult their mentors for further development opportunities beyond the program. Both individual and group reflection sessions were conducted to improve the connections with all the mentees and mentors during the night. On behalf of the students of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty of UNSW, we would like to thank the mentors for the CEVSOC Industry Mentoring program for taking the time to provide students with guided tips and advice. Also, we would also like to thank all the mentees who took part in the Industry Mentoring program over the last four months, and we hope you all benefitted from the program.

The Community team (Danni Yin, Kuruparen Gnanendran, Tiara Ekanayake, Muville Jasmine Faerua) hosted our annual Pride in Engineering Morning Tea on Wednesday 20th September as part of the UNSW 2023 Diversity Festival. This event was held in collaboration with UNSW Mechatronics Society, UNSW Computer Science and Engineering Society (CSESoc), ELSOC UNSW, and UNSW Chemical Engineering Society and with the support of the UNSW Faculty of Engineering EDI Committee, and our company sponsors Aurecon, InterEngineer, Transport for NSW, and WSP. The event was a great opportunity for students to hear from a panel of industry leaders (Isabella Testoni, Matthew Tendam, and Todd Nguyen) about their LGBTQIA journeys navigating the engineering industry. They shared their insights, challenges and learnings on how to embrace their sexuality and gender identity at work. We want to thank all industry representatives who attended. We would also like to thank all the students who joined us to support and celebrate the LGBTQIA community in engineering. We hope you enjoyed the event and learned something new.

On Tuesday 4th July, the CEVSOC Development Team (Dominic Ung, Jennifer Wang, Mack Li, Olivia Bourke, Sissi Zhu, Paul Bui, Anushka Sharma, Aryan Nair, Arthur Choo, Sarah Kumar) hosted the 2023 CEVSOC CV and Cover Letter Workshop. Throughout the event, 29 students had the chance to collaborate with industry partners to enhance their job applications, from breaking down a job board to improving their resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profiles.
