"We tolerate standards of care for these children that we would never accept in our own families, or homes, or streets." Thanks to Castan Centre for Human Rights Law and Radio National's Big Ideas for sharing these speeches on out of home care by Amelia Hunt' and I. Together I think these convey the scale of change needed in our care system and the clear reminder that the path to real change lies in listening to lived expertise and empowering young people like Amelia to shape reform.

Our commissioners have joined the Home Time #MeAt16 Social Media Day of Action. "At 16 I'd been through some stuff, but I had never had to worry about whether I'd have somewhere to sleep at night. Every child and young person deserves a safe home - and the fact is not all children and young people can get that with family" - Liana Buchanan "I'm sure at 16 I thought I had all the world's dramas on my doorstep. But I never, once, had to worry about a roof over my head, or where my next meal might come from. No child should have to worry about these things. We need everyone to raise their voices so that all children and young people have a safe, secure home." - Meena Singh Learn more and join the Home Time campaign here: https://lnkd.in/dMBM47R6 #FixHousingForYoungPeople #HomeTime

We’re calling for people who work or volunteer in organisations covered by the Reportable Conduct Scheme and/or the Child Safe Standards to take part in a short survey on grooming behaviours. The survey is part of a research project run by Griffith University, to better understand grooming behaviours and how we identify them in organisations. The survey is anonymous and should only take 20 minutes to complete. The results will help us better understand what behaviours are recognised as grooming, so we can support organisations to keep children and young people safe from abuse. National Foster Care Week is a time to acknowledge the incredible foster carers who give safe homes to children and young people right across Victoria. It’s also an important reminder of the need to adequately support our carers, including by increasing care allowance payments for kinship and foster carers. You can learn more about this and other recommendations to support carers to do their very best for children in our inquiry report: https://lnkd.in/gq2geUCu
