Members of the Birdon team; David Mulhall, DSC, AM, CSC, Tim Curtis, Mark Albertson and Joe Smith enthusiastically welcomed Acting Prime Minister, Richard Marles and Minister for Defence Personnel and Veteran Affairs Matt Keogh, at our stand during the Indian Ocean Defence & Security (IODS) exhibition this morning. Birdon's evolution from its regional roots to our growth into the US market was a highlight of the conversation. Other discussions about the Landing Craft Medium (LC-M) project and our ongoing work with the U.S. Coast Guard and the US Army were also of particular interest to the Ministers. We are grateful for their recognition of Birdon's efforts in supporting Australian Defence and look forward to continuing our contribution to national security and defence capabilities. #MakeItHappen #Birdon #DefenceIndustry #IODS #AustralianDefence #LandingCraftMedium #Henderson #WesternAustralia

Birdon were honoured to attend the Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Pat Conroy MP's, announcement yesterday concerning the accelerated build of 18 new Landing Craft Medium (LC-M) at the Henderson Shipyard in Western Australia. The first of these vessels, designed by Birdon and built by Austal at the Henderson Shipyard, is set to be delivered in 2026. This project is part of a larger $7 billion investment in littoral manoeuvre vessels, which will expand the Australian industrial base and supply chains, fostering a highly skilled workforce. The LC-M is capable of transporting up to 90 tonnes, equivalent to the payload of large aircraft like the C-17 Globemaster. These vessels are crucial to the Army’s strategy, enabling the deployment and sustainment of land forces with long-range land and maritime strike capabilities across our region. Birdon is proud to be at the forefront of this project, designing the vessels that will form an essential component of the Army’s transformation for littoral manoeuvre. We are committed to delivering excellence and supporting the defence forces in safeguarding our nation. https://lnkd.in/deywF4jp #makeithappn #birdon #austal #ausarmy #landingcraftmedium #landingcraftheavy #defenceindustry #sovereigncapability #henderson #westernaustralia

Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Pat Conroy MP today announced the accelerated build of 18 new Landing Craft Medium at the Henderson Shipyard in Western Australia. The Austal built vessels, which were designed by Birdon Group, will create up to 1100 jobs for the defence industry workforce and support a strategy of denial by deploying and sustaining modernised land forces with long-range land and maritime strike capabilities across the region. The Landing Craft Medium will be part of Army’s broader fleet of vessels including Landing Craft Heavy and the Amphibious Vehicles Logistics. These vessels will form three Landing Craft Battalions, co-located with Army’s Combat Brigades. The $2 billion project will be a pilot program for the Government’s Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement with Austal at Henderson. Defence has now commenced a procurement process to select a mature Landing Craft Heavy design, also to be built by Austal at Henderson. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gXwAaC9C Courtesy of Defence

This one is for those who love to understand the technical aspects behind a boat build. 🤓 Baird Maritime recently published a #vesselreview about the Burra and Girawaa vessels built by Birdon for the Port Authority of NSW. These are among the fastest response vessels ever commissioned by the Port Authority. Designed to tackle major on-water incidents, these vessels are equipped with cutting-edge technology, including two Scania DI16-076M engines and Namjet TJ611 waterjets. Despite housing four engines, the design ensures ample space for easy access during operations, servicing, and maintenance. Burra and Girawaa are versatile, capable of accommodating various operations appropriate for the Sydney Harbour area. The vessels can reach top speeds in excess of 20 knots, provide excellent visibility, and boast improved man overboard recovery capability. Want to know more? This year, Tony Worton celebrates his 30th year working for Birdon. He started his career with us as a Boilermaker. At that stage, we had five employees working in one shed at our Port Macquarie site. Now Tony is our Lifting and Mooring Supervisor and Birdon has close to 750 employees and multiple sites all across, Australia, the US and the world. And Tony is not the only person from his family who works for us, we are lucky to have his two sons Jacob and Thomas working for us as well. So a lot has changed since Tony first started working for founder Jim Bruce all those years ago. One thing that hasn't changed though is a value that continues to drive our business forward. Our 'Make It Happen' value is ingrained within everything we do. "Jim threw me into a lot of roles and he always had the confidence that I could 'make it happen'. If it wasn't for him always encouraging me to get out of my comfort zone and try new things, I wouldn't be the person I am today." "Jim meant so much to me." To celebrate the thirty years of life with Birdon, on a recent holiday, Tony decided to commemorate the milestone with a permanent reminder of a man, a company and a value that he attributes to so much of the pride and happiness that he feels today when he reflects on his career. "Birdon really is a family to me. It's so much more than a job. It's my life." #TeamBirdon #MakeItHappen #JimBruce
