The most exciting opportunity to put forward the case for nature comes to Sydney next month, and we're delighted to have been invited to showcase our private land conservation model Here's what delegates from around the world can expect from us. 🌳 We'll show how landholders are supported to manage a conservation site. 💬 We'll tell delegates about our success and hear from those with hands-on experience 🤝 We'll connect delegates with the opportunities to protect, connect and restore biodiversity on private land. The first Global Nature Positive Summit opens on 8 October. We look forward to meeting with Indigenous leaders, our climate and environment colleagues, as well as corporate sector, non-government and government peers. If you'd like to meet with us during the summit, visit www.bct.nsw.gov.au/partner

    • An image of regent honeyeaters on a eucalyptus branch with an overlay of words that reads "protecting, connecting, restoring biodiversity on private land."
  • There's no mistaking the call of a noisy pitta (𝘗𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘢 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘳) even when they are in a surprising location. Conservation agreement holders Nancy, of Ben Ricketts Environmental Preserve, and Nicki, of Wallaby Hill, on the South Coast near Jamberoo, have both recently captured footage of the bird, which is rarely seen south of the Hunter Valley. These sightings show that both landholders are successfully conserving and regenerating habitat that harbours the snails and insects they typically eat. Ornithologists describe the distinctive noisy pitta territorial call as 'walk to work' on repeat. • We visited Melanie and Steve Cooper’s place ‘Myall Park’ at Caragabal recently as part of our Private Land Conservation Matters 'Biodiversity on Farms' event. Melanie and Steve have revegetated a 20ha wetland on their conservation agreement property which now attracts brolgas - listed as vulnerable in NSW. They are looking to expand 30m wide native shelter belts further across the property and incorporate areas of threatened Box woodland in the future. The event, delivered by Josh Frappel from The Regenerative, encouraged primary producers to incorporate diversity in their production and non-production areas through measures such as restoring water cycles and protecting paddock trees. • The sun was shining, and we were happy to see lots of familiar faces at this year's Henty Machinery Field Days. Regional conservation officer Cassie Douglas chatted with local conservation agreement holders Helen and Owen Huggins, and David and Val Sloane, from 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘦 in the Riverina region. We hope you get the chance to come and see us today on the last day of Henty 2024. #privatelandconservation #HentyFieldDays

  • A conservation agreement with the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust is seeing Peter Lloyd's goal of protecting koala habitat on a NSW Northern Tablelands property become a reality. Peter is one of the owners of 𝘞𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘢, a 2000 ha property that is co-owned by a number of families in the Armidale region. The Wilderness Company applied for a tender designed to protect important koala habitat and will now receive annual payments to support their conservation efforts. https://lnkd.in/gjc-qDgR #koalaconservation #privatelandconservation

  • Thanks to lots of rain this winter much of western NSW is ablaze with colourful wildflowers. 🌻 🌺 🌼 Some of our ecologists and staff headed to Toorale Station and Ledknapper Nature Reserve, about 100km northeast of Bourke, to assess Plant Community Types (PCTs) for future agreements. The data collected allows us to assess biodiversity outcomes on private land conservation sites. They were greeted by a sea of beautiful colour from native flora, including white paper daisies, creeping monkey flower, desert fuchsia and heath myrtle. These plants not only look beautiful they also provide vital food and shelter and for a variety of native birds, insects, and reptiles. #BiodiversityMonth #wildflowers #privatelandconservation

  • We had a great time at the recent Private Land Conservation Forum for landholders held at Charles Sturt University, Albury Wodonga. The sold-out event, run by the Australian Land Conservation Alliance (ALCA) and supported by us, provided a great opportunity for landholders from across NSW to learn more about private land conservation and to connect with others. We spent a day visiting two of our stunning local conservation agreement properties, 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘦 and 𝘞𝘰𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘢 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, to see how they are being managed for conservation alongside sustainable farming. Thank you to those who attended, we hope you enjoyed meeting everyone and picked up lots of helpful information. #privatelandconservation

  • This emu dad is doing his best to keep his 6 chicks in line despite the wind and the tall wildflowers. Ecologist Erika Roper spotted the group while she was in Toorale National Park, on the floodplains of the Darling and Warrego rivers near Bourke. Erika was taking part in a week of ecological monitoring to assess comparative plant community types. The data collected will be compared to data collected on private land conservation agreements to assess the benefits of private land conservation on biodiversity outcomes. Those chick-concealing wildflowers include Everlasting Daisy (𝘙𝘩𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘱), Darling Pea (𝘚𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘺𝘢𝘯𝘢) and Cut-leaf Burr-daisy (𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘴). #emus #TooraleNationalPark #privatelandconservation #BiodiversityMonth

Conservation agreement landholder, Barbara Linley, was interviewed by ABC North Coast following the exciting discovery of a nest of nine rare coastal emu eggs.   Barbara, who has a conservation agreement on her Tullymorgan property to protect koala habitat, has been active in coastal emu conservation for many years.   The endangered coastal emu is genetically different from all other emu populations in Australia. There is estimated to be fewer than 50 birds left.       The species was formerly widespread in north-eastern NSW, but is now only found between Evans Head and Red Rock, with a small isolated population in the Bungawalbin area. Special facts about the coastal emu: 🟤 Coastal emus play a significant conservation role by dispersing large seeds of native plants, over long distances. 🟤 Egg incubation and all parental care is done by the male emu! 📷 Coastal emu eggs - Forestry Corporation of NSW 📷 Barbara Linley - photo ABC North Coast, Hannah Ross #coastalemu #BiodiversityMonth #privatelandconservation
