The METRONET Yanchep Rail Extension has officially opened, connecting Perth's northern suburbs to the rail network. Extending the Joondalup Line by 14.5 kilometres, the project introduces three new stations: Alkimos, Eglinton, and Yanchep, each equipped with modern facilities and ample parking. Jointly funded by the Australian and Western Australian governments, this extension features three green fauna bridges for wildlife crossings and nine public art pieces celebrating local culture and history. Connecting rapidly developing suburbs to the Perth CBD and airport, the new train line offers a 49-minute journey from Yanchep to the city. Free community events were held recently to celebrate the opening, with regular passenger services underway now. BG&E was part of the Design Joint Venture (with AECOM and Arcadis) that completed the detailed design for the NEWest Alliance (NWA), comprising CPB, DTI, and the Public Transport Authority (PTA). #BGEEngineering Patrick Thompson

At BG&E, our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) inspires us to honour and celebrate cultural themes. This year’s NAIDOC Week colouring competition encouraged our team and their families to bring the theme “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud” to life.   The response was fantastic, with many children showcasing their creativity. We were also impressed by the talent within BG&E - the Child at Heart category highlighted some real artistic skills of our employees.   Thank you to all our participants; you made it difficult to choose a winner. A special mention goes to Rose for her outstanding contribution. Rose went above and beyond by creating original artwork that beautifully interpreted the NAIDOC theme.   Please enjoy these inspiring results, and explore more about our initiatives and commitments here 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gEapx8FB   #NAIDOCWeekAustralia #BGEEngineering #NRW2024

Our Board recently visited the ETP Sydney Metro Project! This is particularly exciting as BG&E, in partnership with Arcadis, undertook the major civil construction works for Sydney Metro’s Eastern Tunnelling Package, spanning between The Bays and Hunter Street. This project, part of Australia’s largest public transport programme, involved station excavation and tunnelling, including enabling works, drainage infrastructure, 2.1 km of TBM tunnelling, station excavation at Hunter Street and Pyrmont, cross-over cavern excavation at Pyrmont, and shaft excavation for station access at Hunter Street and Pyrmont. BG&E’s scope included the design of piling, shoring, excavation, and temporary support for station access shafts, alignment and spatial compliance for tunnels and stations, drainage, flooding and hydrology risk assessment, durability and concrete materials assessment, earthing and electrolysis protection, local area and site civil works design, utilities coordination, traffic modelling, and temporary works design. The project faced significant challenges, particularly working in dense urban environments and managing flooding issues at The Bays site. Shoring support and ground movements were carefully assessed to ensure the stability of heritage structures and high-rise buildings during excavation. Detailed flood modelling and mitigation measures were implemented to protect surrounding properties. Despite these challenges, demolition at Pyrmont is complete with shaft excavation well underway, and at Hunter Street, shoring support and ground anchor installation are complete with demolition nearing ground level. Key individuals from BG&E involved in this project include Frank Banno, Martin Wright CEng MICE, Terry Chow, Justin Jameson, Chris McLelland, Thibagar Theivendran, Leonard Ambrogi, Ruoshi Xu, Johnathan McCubben, Lauren Kock, Isaac Athfield, Colin Bible, Vincent Wong, Scott Mortimer, Malinda Gunasekera, Laura Baxter, Damian Chivers, Lorraine Jiang, Andrew Kim, Yang Liu and Gary Vallance. This project is being delivered for JCG (John Holland, CPB Contractors, Ghella). Thanks to JCG and our partners at Arcadis for their collaboration and teamwork, which have been instrumental in achieving these incredible outcomes. #BGEEngineering #SydneyMetro #Collaboration #EngineeringExcellence

The Fitzroy Bridge Alliance was honoured with the 2024 Commonwealth Bank Best Regional Project Kimberley Pilbara award for their project, the 'New Fitzroy River Bridge'. This achievement followed their completion of the design and construction of the new bridge within a year after the previous one was destroyed by flooding. The project entailed demolishing the damaged bridge, constructing a new dual-lane bridge with a pedestrian path, and reconstructing both bridge approaches while implementing flood and scour protection measures. Thank you to the Master Builders Association of Western Australia for acknowledging the Fitzroy Bridge Alliance's accomplishments in receiving the 2024 Commonwealth Bank Best Regional Project Kimberley Pilbara award for their 'New Fitzroy River Bridge' project.
