Congratulations to Alicia Sargent who was announced as the recipient of the Inclusion and Diversity Champion Award at today's Women in Resources and Manufacturing Tasmania Awards in Launceston. Alicia will now represent Tasmania at the national awards in Canberra this September. A big round of applause also to Theresa MacKenzie, Kristy Wilkinson and Hannah Barwick who were awarded highly commended in their categories. We are proud to be able to support the University of Tasmania and students like Seth to be achieve their dreams. Seth, who is studying engineering, is the recipient of a BBA scholarship that enables to dedicate more time to his studies throughout his four-year degree. Congratulations to our Electrical Process Maintainer Lochie Geard, who has been shortlisted as a semi-finalist in the Tasmanian Apprentice of the Year Awards. We wish Lochie the best of luck with the awards interview later this month.

It was great to have students from Port Dalrymple School, Star Of The Sea and South George Town Primary join us for our annual tree planting day. The event not only enabled students to get their hands dirty but provided an opportunity to learn about the environment and the role we all play in conservation. The day was supported by the George Town Rotary Club - including George Town Mayor Greg Kieser - whose volunteers cooked a delicious barbecue.

Times have certainly changed since Tez started with us as an unapprentice in April 1974, when houses sold on average for $35,900 and the average weekly wage was $119.10. Today we celebrate and acknowledge Tez’s significant contribution over the past 50 years to our operation, particularly the Potrooms Department where Tez has worked for much of his career as well as the broader Rio Tinto business.
