National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. This year's theme, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that the work continues. Now more than ever, we need reconciliation. In recognition, we asked members of our RAP committee what #nowmorethanever meant to them and how SYSTRA is helping to make a difference. #NRW24 #connectedteams #RAP For more information on our Reconciliation Action Plan, please hit the link here: https://hubs.la/Q02yylc50

National Volunteer Week is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering, providing an opportunity to celebrate the important role of volunteers in our community. In the lead up to National Volunteering week, our teams in Melbourne and Sydney participated in separate initiatives, putting time aside for couple of great causes. In Melbourne, the team worked with Cancer Council Victoria to pack kits and mail orders at their warehouse while our team in Sydney worked with the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife to plant new fauna and assist with weed control. Our volunteering commitments reflect our unwavering dedication to fostering a safe, inclusive, and thriving community within and beyond the organisation. For more information on how we're giving back to community, please head to our dedicated ESG page. https://hubs.la/Q02yc4Nf0 #volunteering #NVW2024 #connectedteams SYSTRA Bamser Rail Systems Australia - now part of SYSTRA Group

[Connected Teams 🌏] SYSTRA has worked on some of the world’s biggest and most complex underground engineering projects. As Australia ramps up its energy transition in pursuit of net zero, the hydroelectric space is going to become increasingly important. Mixing our growing local presence with global expertise from our team at SYSTRA Group SYSTRA Subterra and SYSTRA SWS, we are well positioned to form great partnerships with new clients across the entire project lifecycle. We recently published an article about 4 key takeaways from our time at the World Tunnelling Conference: https://hubs.la/Q02xG-fF0 Some of our recently published signature projects include: ✔️CHEVAS Hydroelectric ✔️Ollachea Tunnel ✔️Renace II #Tunnelling #DrillandBlast #ConnectedTeams

[Connected Teams 🌏] Did you know that SYSTRA has worked on some of the world’s biggest and most complex underground engineering projects? Renace II in Guatemala is a hydroelectrical project located at Cahabón River about 230km north of the capital Guatemala City. Renace II provides 114 MW using a gross head of 335 m and a flow of 40 m3/s. The underground works involved the construction of five (5 No) drill and blast tunnels with a total length of more than 12km, a pressure well 125m deep, an 18m wide cavern and a balance shaft 27m deep. On behalf of our client, COBRA, SYSTRA provided detailed design, engineering and technical supervision services during the construction phase of the complex drill & blast works. The complex geological conditions included intersections with karstic cavities in the limestone of the Coban Formation, potential slope failures due to residual soils, highly weathered rock and high-water inflows. Special ground support was designed for each scenario encountered and continuous monitoring undertaken during drill and blast activities. [Connected Teams 🌏] Did you know that SYSTRA has worked on some of the world’s biggest and most complex underground engineering projects? SYSTRA has been involved in the ground-breaking Ollachea Tunnel in Puno, Peru. Located at an altitude of 2,700 m in the Andes Mountains, this tunnel is part of the South Interocean Highway 🛣️ and presents a unique challenge due to the high enthalpy thermal underground water with temperatures exceeding 80°C! Only in Iceland and the previously profiled Cheves Hydro project are we aware that similar conditions have been present. ⛰️This project is considered a pioneering excellence, with detailed hydrogeological studies guiding the design to minimise thermal impact. The construction phase, which began in September 2020, faced challenges such as thermal water flows, underground water control, landslides, unexpected faults, and sections built on loose ground. ✔️To help our clients overcome these challenges and achieve excellence, SYSTRA provided support to the client from tender stage through to start-up and throughout project execution. SYSTRA carried out tender and detailed tunnel design for this project and provided on-site technical supervision for the drill and blast excavation and permanent lining stages. Due to the very high ground water temperature and subsequently high thermal stresses in the tunnel, SYSTRA's scope also involved designing an additional layer of insulation within the permanent lining of the structure Once completed, the tunnel will enhance safety and help guarantee the continuity of traffic on this national route with a history of rock and mud slides. Yesterday at the Australian Tunnelling Conference, Dylan Clarke and Quinn Kenny presented on Underground Cavern Blasting - Post TBM Traverse, using examples from the Cross River Rail project. The event focused on current and future tunnelling projects, as well as the latest industry developments, with presentations from top experts in the field. It was a great occasion to bring the industry together locally to discuss insights from the forefront of Australasian and global tunnelling projects! 👉For more information on our capabilities in Tunnelling, please hit the link here: https://hubs.la/Q02x9Pb40 👉We also covered Four Lessons from the World Tunnelling Conference in a recent post: https://hubs.la/Q02x9NDG0 #TunnellingConference #Tunnel #AustralianTunnellingConference #connectedteams SYSTRA Bamser

[Connected Teams 🌏] Did you know that SYSTRA has worked on some of the world’s biggest and most complex underground engineering projects? The CHEVES Hydroelectric Plant in Peru is a run-of-river hydropower plant that produces energy by directing the water of the Huaura and Checras rivers through turbines. It is a significant project in that it takes advantage of the regions natural surroundings to provide a sustainable energy supply. 💧It has been in operation since 2015 🔋Produces 825GWh of energy annually 🏠Powering more than 570,000 homes On behalf of our client HOCHTIEF, SYSTRA was responsible for the detailed design of the underground structures and technical assistance and oversight during construction including around 20km of drill & blast tunnels (transfer, headrace, surge, access, and tailrace) and powerhouse complex with 2 large caverns. SYSTRA's expertise enabled the project to overcome several challenges such as thermal waters, ground squeezing, and most notably the complex and challenging geological conditions with high overburden of up to 1,500m resulting in stresses that exceeded the rock mass strength, causing over 850 rock bursts. The designs developed by SYSTRA included a comprehensive risk assessment process with all the mitigations measures adopted during the delivery of the project works.
