“Don’t discount an opportunity because it’s not what you plan to do”. Since starting as Cadet Mechanical Engineer in 1985, Wendy has pivoted many times throughout her career – learning a thing or two about how deviating from one path can lead you right back to the road you always wanted to be on. Now Throughlife Support Director for the Hunter Class Frigate Program, she talks us through the role the Support Systems team plays – essentially bringing the ship alive. HMAS Parramatta - the final ship in the Anzac Midlife Capability Assurance Program (AMCAP) – recently had its new mast installed, as the 8-year upgrade program nears completion. The new mast is the eighth to be manufactured by us at the Henderson shipyard, through the Warship Asset Management Agreement alliance. As with the previous AMCAP upgrades, the mast will accommodate the CEA radar system, which complements the existing Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) radar system. The mast was lifted by a team of crane operators, riggers, fitters, superintendents, and a mechanical supervisor. It will now take around a month to complete the installation. HMAS Parramatta will then commence sea trials, ahead of a return to service during 2025.

📢 We sponsored the ‘Embracing Neurodiversity in Aerospace Breakfast ’ in Canberra to help foster greater inclusivity in the workplace. We partnered with the Royal Aeronautical Society Australian Division (RAeS) for the 'Celebrating Aerospace Downunder 2024' conference. Keynote speakers Stephanie, BAE Systems Australia Program Lead – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Emily Hughes, Director Phantom Works Global at Boeing and RAeS President, brought unique insights on embracing neurodiversity and enhancing our workforce by creating more inclusive environments. Thank you to Defence Australia and Australian Army for attending this crucial conversation. Together, we’re committed to building a future where everyone’s strengths are recognised and valued.

Our #Destroyer Enterprise teams at Garden Island play a pivotal role in ensuring HMAS Hobart, HMAS Sydney and HMAS Brisbane are in peak warfighting condition. Yesterday, these teams celebrated the signed Destroyer Enterprise Charter for these Hobart class Air Warfare Destroyers (DDGs). 🚢🚢🚢 The Destroyer Enterprise charter was officially launched last month and is a collaboration between us, Defence and our Australian industry partners Lockheed Martin Australia, Thales Australia, Saab Australia, Raytheon Australia, and Navantia Australia.

Congratulations to our very own Jen Willmer, who has been awarded the 2023 Women in Defence Award in the Legal/Contracting category! 🎉 The awards recognise ‘women whose achievements, leadership and innovation in 2023 deserve to be recognised’. Jen led various key negotiations and drove legislative changes in the Defence industry, and has made a lasting impact on both our Company and the broader Defence community. Her true leadership shone through leading negotiations on the collaboration agreement for the CSI-IPT, and leading her team to provide support to the Hunter Batch 1 negotiation team, negotiate complex high-value subcontracts with Australian and foreign OEMs, and make tireless efforts to drive change to the Security of Critical Infrastructure Act. Through her quiet dedication and commitment to mentorship and fostering an inclusive workplace, Jen has been a powerful support to women across the business, developing future leaders with vulnerability and compassion. A special congratulations also to Denise Lam, who was a finalist in the Engineering category. As the head of the Algorithms team, Denise’s leadership and technical prowess have been critical to delivering autonomous capabilities, while also fostering collaboration, inclusivity, and a culture of continuous improvement.
