Wonderful to meet with the team at City of London Corporation in person - they have been awesome to support over the past 2 years on their supply chain decarbonisation program, which I think has been one of the most effective at engaging suppliers that I've seen! In person meetings are so much better than just over a call, and of course a pint at the pub afterwards was in order 🍺

Emissions calculations for business flights, especially when a client's travel management system has no distances, doesn't have to be rocket science (or as hard as catching a rocket booster for that matter!) 🛩️ 🚀 Of course, in this kind of calculation, there are other factors to consider too. Factoring in radiative forcing, taking into account which factor to choose based on distance & class, and considering how to handle multi-leg journeys is all essential. Based on the methodologies I've seen our partners employ, I've put together another guide for how to make the process as efficient as possible, as well as some suggestions on what actions clients could be advised to take to decarbonise and hit net zero for this Scope 3 category. It's honestly no surprise that most GHG & carbon accounting still happens on spreadsheets! Each business has different metrics they may want to report their emissions against, like business unit, procurement code, entity, level 1/2/3/4 descriptions...the list goes on. Spreadsheets cater to this really well because they're so flexible with changing data requirements. That's why we spent lots of time investing into customisation on Avarni - so we could give sustainability experts the flexibility of excel, without the risks of errors associated with manual data entry 😬 Check out an example on Avarni below, where I: 1. Create a custom field for "Business unit" alongside an existing "Procurement code", fields unique to my client's business 2. Review the activity data rolled up by the business unit and procurement code 3. Build a report that shows my client's emissions by business unit and procurement code - making it relevant and actionable No activity data is lost and we can set up whatever fields are required for reporting super easily 💪 if you want to see more, check out the link in the comments! #GHG #CarbonAccounting #SustainabilityConsulting #Avarni #DataAccuracy

Watch me review of 85% of a 3,000 row scope 3 spend-based inventory in 3 minutes ⏲️ ⏳ 💨 Admittedly - this is a relatively clean example client dataset, I've seen some of our partners deal with hundreds of thousands of rows with vague and complex descriptors across multiple levels. Still, even in examples like that we've seen a user get 70% of the dataset reviewed in a couple of hours with a workflow similar to this - a far cry from the time they otherwise would've spent in excel! PS - I'm not rehearsing these clips so excuse some of my umming and ahhing 😊 #CarbonAccounting #Scope3 #SpendBased #PurchasedGoodsAndServices #SustainabilityConsulting

Any company that isn't taking sustainability reporting seriously after last week's ASRS announcements is now rolling the dice 🎲 With the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards finalised by the AASB last week, carbon emissions tracking & reporting for larger companies is now mandated starting from 1 Jan 2025. 3 1/2 years ago when we started Avarni, conversations were focused on how companies can report their emissions and reductions in a way that signals their care for the environment. It was seen as a marketing advantage - a bit grim, but the reality is that there needs to be a clear business incentive to measuring and reporting emissions, and this was the only obvious one. Not anymore. Large companies will be expected to report to a high degree of accuracy and transparency from the get go, or risk their reputation. Investors won't tolerate an exposure to risks of non-compliance at the board level. And sustainability reporting is already part of the ticket to submit proposals to be a supplier to many larger organisations. No disclosure, no bid! We have a network of amazing sustainability consulting partners Avarni works closely with to help companies mitigate these risks - reach out to us if you need a referral to one of them to help you mitigate these risks. Or, if you want to be an Avarni partner and make carbon accounting software part of your service offering, please reach out to me directly 💬 💻 #CarbonAccounting #ASRS #ASSB #SustainabilityReporting #ClimateRisk
