This week is NAIDOC Week, an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to celebrate and acknowledge Australia's Indigenous history, achievements, and culture.     Australian Unity celebrated this important week with a number of events.     In Melbourne we held a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony with Yorta Yorta, Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung Elder, Uncle Shane Charles, Co-Chair of Reconciliation Victoria.     On Thursday, members of the Aboriginal Home Health team spent time at the Yula-Punaal Education & Healing Centre. They enjoyed a smoking ceremony, a water blessing and learned how to weave baskets.     St Brigid’s Green Retirement Community in Sydney also held an event and was joined by Aunty Maxine, a local Maroubra elder. Our residents enjoyed homemade damper for afternoon tea while listening to traditional and modern music by First Nations artists.     As part of our Reconciliation Action Plan, Australian Unity is committed to celebrate culture by providing opportunities for our employees to experience traditional ceremonies on the lands which we work.     To find out more about our vision for reconciliation, visit: https://lnkd.in/diWtvxn #NAIDOCweek #reconciliation

For the third consecutive year Australian Unity has been recognised as one of The Australian Financial Review’s Sustainability Leaders!   This accolade acknowledges Australian Unity’s $50 million wellbeing-based sustainability-linked loan (SLL) with Westpac, one of the first of its kind in Australia, with sustainability performance targets linked to social impact outcomes.   Chief Financial Officer and Group Executive for Finance and Strategy, Darren Mann, said that Australian Unity’s inclusion is recognition of the organisation’s ongoing commitment to public accountability for its social impact goals.   "Australian Unity has taken a novel approach to measuring our social impact through the development of our CSV Framework. We always held the ambition to become truly accountable to the framework by attaching finance to it, and we found a willing partner in Westpac. We hope that the loan will serve as a benchmark for the industry, demonstrating how financial instruments can drive positive change.”   The Sustainability Leaders list celebrates Australasian companies that are making progress in tackling sustainability challenges while delivering business value.   For more information on Australian Unity’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria, visit: https://lnkd.in/gSY7bngr

NAIDOC Week, a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and achievements, is taking place from July 7 to 14.   This year's theme, "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud," highlights the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture, with fire symbolizing the connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.   NAIDOC Week is not only a time for Aboriginal people to celebrate their rich and ongoing culture but also an opportunity for non-Indigenous Australians to join in the festivities. It serves as a call to action, urging everyone to step up and be a change agent in their communities.   "Reconciliation demands more than lip service," says Ange Donovan, Australian Unity’s Reconciliation Practice Lead.   "Whether it's calling out racism or advocating for appropriate environmental, cultural, and heritage protections, we must stand together.   "The week-long celebration encourages individuals to reflect on their surroundings and take action in their daily lives. It is about making a difference in the places where people live and work, fostering a sense of unity and understanding.”   NAIDOC Week events will be held across Australia, showcasing the diverse range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. From art exhibitions and music performances to storytelling sessions and traditional dance workshops, there will be something for everyone to enjoy and learn from.
