  • Yesterday, Queensland hit a new winter maximum operational demand record (8,728 MW), up 12 MW from the previous record (4 July 2022).   This was due to a cold airmass and cool winds moving into QLD, dropping temperatures to below average, with Archerfield recording a maximum temperature of 16.9°C which is about 4°C below the July average maximum temperature.  At the time, generation consisted of black coal 65.1%, gas 25.9%, hydro 4.2%, wind 2.5%, batteries 0.7% & imported electricity 1.6%.

  • This morning AEMO CEO Daniel Westerman was the keynote speaker at this year’s Australian Clean Energy Summit. Daniel’s presentation highlighted the progress and challenges of Australia’s energy transition and the future roadmap of large-scale and residential generation, storage and transmission investment needed in the National Electricity Market to meet renewable and emissions targets as we head toward a net zero 2050. “It’s our job at AEMO to operate Australia’s energy systems and markets, in real time, minute by minute, around the clock… We deal with the ups and down of supply and demand, market dynamics, short-term incidents, and long-term trends,” Mr Westerman said. “And we draw on that lived experience to help inform our other key responsibility, to plan the energy system for the future.” AEMO’s Executive General Manager of System Design, Merryn York will also present at the conference on grid connections and James Lindley, Group Manager Systems Capability will present on managing emerging risks to clean energy systems.
