Overnight, Ukraine’s biggest children’s hospital was hit by a missile attack. Search and rescue is underway at Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital. Photos from the scene show children attached to intravenous drips waiting to be evacuated. Dozens of rockets were fired across Ukrainian cities including Kyiv, Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih. At least 33 people were killed and many more have been injured. UNHCR is providing emergency shelter kits to families living near the hospital, where homes have been severely damaged. Asif Sultani, UNHCR High Profile Supporter and a former refugee living in the NSW Hunter region, spoke to NBN Newcastle News about his emotional reunion with his mother. ❤️ Asif has shared a clip of the reunion on social media, which has captured the attention of more than a million people, including the band Coldplay. Patil grew up in Aleppo, Syria, a city ravaged by war. As a refuge from the conflict, Patil would play the piano, which acted as her “little window of hope.” She always dreamed of playing Chopin’s Grand Valse Brillante in front of a large audience. That dream recently came true at an Australia for UNHCR event.

Mariia and her children Anastasiia and Kyrylo are Ukrainian refugees who now call Sydney home. In this video (voiced by Anastasiia), the family shares their treasured recipe for traditional Ukrainian syrnyky, ricotta pancakes. “The food reminds us of being together as a family in Ukraine. We’d eat it together on weekends with my husband, who is still in Ukraine fighting in the war,” Mariia said. A football tournament in central London brought together refugee girls with local girls to compete in the Stronger Communities Cup ⚽🌍. UNHCR and the English Football League organised the event to highlight the positive impacts of sport on the lives of displaced girls 💪❤️.
