A membership based, for-purpose organisation that supports companies to advance the inclusion of people with disability.

About us

OUR VISION A disability confident Australia. OUR PURPOSE To build employer capability and be the employer voice to government, industry and community to achieve the inclusion of people with disability. OUR VALUES Collaborative - We actively participate, we actively listen, and we proactively seek out and share information. Open - We have courageous conversations, say when we need help and communicate authentically and respectfully. Flexible - We explore new ways of doing things, we learn from experience, and we adapt to changing circumstances. Ambitious - We celebrate successes, demonstrate respect, accessibility and inclusion at all times and we actively strive to maximise AND’s impact. The Australian Disability Network (ADN) is a not for profit organisation funded by its members to take a leadership role in advancing the equitable inclusion of people with disability in all aspects of business. We assist our members to reap the business benefits of employing people with disability, and welcoming customers with disability. We are not an employment agency and do not find jobs for people with disability - we work on the employer-side to improve internal systems and procedures to ensure they are accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities. Approximately 20% of the Australian population has a disability - that's one in every five people in Australia. Ensuring your organisation is disability confident isn't just the "right thing to do" - it also makes very good business sense. Through the delivery of unique products and services, we assist organisations to build skills and confidence in relation to people with disability as employees, customers and other stakeholders. Disability inclusion makes good business sense. This is evident from our own success. We came 2nd in the 2023 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work list - Government, Education and Not-for-Profit category.

I'm thrilled to finally share this update, even if it's a bit overdue! In May of this year, I successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts from Monash University. Navigating online learning through the challenges of COVID-19 was no easy feat. It required an incredible amount of adaptability, perseverance, and self-motivation, and I am beyond grateful to have been encouraged and motivated by my own support networks and the University's Disability Support Services during this period. In my five years at Monash, I was fortunate enough to experience a multitude of opportunities which furthered both my personal and professional growth. From being a Green Steps junior consultant, to undertaking an Australian Disability Network Stepping Into internship with the Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria and working as an Environmental Undergraduate on the Metro Tunnel Project, I'm so grateful for these experiences which have shaped me into the young professional that I am today. I wouldn't have been able to cross the stage in Robert Blackwood Hall without the unwavering support of my friends and family throughout this time. Your encouragement and understanding kept me going during late-night study sessions and crazy exam periods. Thank you for being my cheerleaders and sounding boards - I couldn't have done it without you! I would like to extend a special thank you to my mum, Helen Fiumani. Thank you for reading thousands upon thousands of words about leaf size and structure, communist propaganda, climate change policy and every random topic in between. Thank you for bringing me snack plates at 10pm when I was too busy working on assignments to eat dinner. Thank you for being patient with me when I was running on zero sleep and stressed out of my mind. I really couldn't have done it without you, and I was so proud to receive my testamurs knowing that you were in the crowd watching. While the journey was tough and full of obstacles, reaching this milestone has been such a rewarding experience. It's a testament to resilience and the power of community, and the inner power I hold as a woman in STEM. To all my fellow graduates and current students, keep pushing forward! I know it feels never ending, but the hard work does pay off, and every challenge you overcome is a step closer to your goals.

  • Say "hi" to Ryllonna (rah-lawn-ah), our incredible Relationship Manager! 👋 Ryllonna has 15 year's experience in Employee Relations and Team Leadership with the Canadian federal government and the Department of National Defence. She also worked in the non-profit sector, specializing in community development, employment services and training and facilitation. Her passion for education led her to teach in post-secondary education as a college instructor! ✈️ With her recent move to Australia, Ryllonna is very excited to use her advisory experience in a way that gets back to her roots in the nonprofit sector. She looks forward to making an impact in the disability space. 💜 Ryllonna's favourite part about working with Australian Disability Network is supporting member organisation's commitment to go beyond compliance and create a truly dignified inclusive experience for all staff. 💃 Dancing has always been a part of Ryllonna's life. She taught dance through high school and university and danced with a couple of performance groups. She may not be in the studio or on the stage anymore, but you’ll always find her dancing!

  • Create a ripple effect in building an accessible environment ⭐ Continuing our series sharing top tips for making your workplace environment accessible – these four tips focus on ways to create a more accessible office culture. 1. #SayTheWord Disability. Don’t fear the word ‘disability’. “Differently abled”, “people of all abilities”, “disAbility”, “diffAbled” and “special needs” are all euphemistic and can be considered patronising. Make sure you are using inclusive language and adapt your language to suit individual preferences. 2. Don’t assume. Not sure what to do? Just ask! People with disability are the experts on what adjustments they require and what their preferred method of communication is, so ask the person what they may need. 3. Label jars, not people. How do you refer to a person with disability? By their name of course! 4. Speak Up. People can’t fix problems they don’t know about. If you see a practice in your workplace that is not accessible, speak up, and call for those practices to improve. Shout out to Briar Harte for sharing our post from before, we're excited to reshare for everyone to refresh their memory! #Accessibility #Inclusion #Disability #WorkCulture #Adjustments
