Quantum computing, once a concept bound to high-tech labs and complex theories, is now within reach—literally. Researchers at the University of Technology Sydney have developed an affordable, handheld quantum computer emulator called the “Quokka.” Designed to support quantum programming languages, this device offers hands-on experience that was once unimaginable. Eigensystems’ Co-Founder, Chris Ferrie, shares that the goal is clear: to democratize quantum computing by making it accessible to everyone through education. It’s not just a tool; it’s an opportunity to bring quantum computing into classrooms, innovation hubs, and even home studies. This could be a pivotal step toward building a future where quantum literacy is mainstream. Imagine a world where a single blood test could catch lung cancer before it spreads—saving lives and offering hope in the face of one of the deadliest cancers. Researchers at the The University of Queensland are making strides toward this vision with a new diagnostic device designed to detect early-stage lung cancer. Dr. Richard Lobb from UQ’s Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology AIBN explains that early detection could mean the difference between life and death for many. With lung cancer claiming nearly 9,000 Australian lives each year, this breakthrough holds the potential to transform how we fight this disease, offering patients a chance to begin treatment sooner and, ultimately, to improve survival rates. The retail sector accounts for nearly 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, yet over 80% of retailers remain unprepared to meet critical sustainability targets. As consumer demand for transparency and accountability grows, businesses face mounting pressure to take real action. With the ambitious goal of removing one gigaton of CO2 from the atmosphere by 2030, innovative solutions like Klean - AI based Customer Insights are stepping up to help retailers accurately track their ESG performance and effectively reduce emissions. Coming up this Sunday on "APAC Weekly" on Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) Australia... an interview with Shan V., Founder and CEO of Klean, to explore how they are leading this change. #ConversationsShapingOurFuture #Sustainability #RetailInnovation #ClimateAction #ESG #SustainableRetail #CO2Reduction #CleanTech #LeadershipInAction

In 2017, The Nippon Foundation and GEBCO - General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans launched the Seabed 2030 Project to address the urgent need to map our oceans. At the time, only 6% of the seafloor had been adequately mapped, leaving huge gaps in our ability to manage marine resources sustainably and protect coastal communities. Seabed 2030 aims to change this by compiling all available seabed mapping data into a comprehensive digital map of the world’s ocean floor by 2030, supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 14. As Kevin Mackay explains, this initiative is critical for the future of our oceans. There’s a growing consensus that urgent action on climate change is needed, yet the gap between recognition and action remains vast. One example is Scope 3 emissions, which companies can influence but don’t directly control. Research shows that addressing these emissions in Australia’s urban water sector could deliver benefits that far exceed current reduction plans. If we focus on reducing energy used for heating water, we could save billions of litres of water and slash emissions, all while lowering household bills.
