What does it take to be a good leader?   "Listen more than you talk, be curious, be humble and be comfortable with discomfort; that's where the learning happens.”    That's what Kat Hartmann, our General Manager Digital & Customer Experience, has to say about good leadership, after a career that has spanned media, retail, airlines and now the banking industry.    She is now applying this knowledge at ANZ, where she heads up the teams responsible for shaping up our digital offering to small-to-medium business customers.    Kat shares what she’s learnt here 👇    Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gHxpXFdm

Feel like you’re plateauing in your job?    Adelle McDonald, ANZ Engineer, shares her advice on how to boost your confidence and reach your career goals, even when you’re experiencing what she calls a ‘career slump’.    “When my role changed, early in my career, I went from having black and white metrics of success to shades of grey. There was no clear path forward for me,” said Adelle.   Here’s how she overcame it.    📣 Embrace self-promotion. Managers often can’t see the daily contributions of their team members. Speaking up about your success is not just about seeking praise, but ensuring people who value our work are given the opportunity to hear about it.    👩💻 Share your work with others. Engineering allows us to create and make an impact, but our attachment to our work can hinder sharing. Openly sharing your work can lead to new connections and new ideas, it can even help you find a mentor.    🤝 Draw inspiration from your role models. Some role models inspire us through their professional achievements, while others guide us with their values; diversity is key to finding guidance that aligns with our circumstances and aspirations. For example, an engineer might find inspiration in a pioneering scientist. While a first-time parent might draw strength from a co-worker and parent of three children.   🔍 Remove barriers to connection. Sometimes cultural barriers, like ‘Tall Poppy Syndrome’ really hurt in large organisations because it can mean remarkable achievements, behaviours and innovations may go unnoticed. What barriers are holding you back?   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g5qe9SGA

It's Grand Final weekend, and even though they didn't quite make it 😉, the ANZ Bank Football Club should be on your radar as a team to support! Their rich history and strong community ties make them a standout choice.    Founded in 1954, a group of ANZ employees started the footy club. Rechristened as the "Falcons" in 1999, the club celebrated its 70th anniversary last month.    Former employee, Paul Shoppee recalls his first week working at ANZ in February 1985, when he turned up to work at the Brandon Park branch as a fresh faced 19-year-old and joined the footy club.     “I spent 33 years, so more than half my life being involved with the club. And 90 per cent of the friends I've got in this world are from my association with the footy club. So, that's why it's so important to me.”    His highlight? Coaching the 2002 reserves grand final winning team – the clubs first piece of silverware since 1974.     “My three kids grew up at the footy club. My son (Clain), played in 2018 when I was coaching. And now my Dad (Peter) is the club's goal umpire and he's 86 years old."    Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gdxtjbpU     Let us know - who are you barracking for in the #AFLGrandFinal this weekend?

What brings you the most joy in your role?    For Hamish Mackenzie, one of our Accessibility Leads, it’s working on things that make it easier for the 1 in 5 Australians with a disability, to access banking our services; and working on it from start to finish.    “So, a good example would be the ANZ Plus app, I was there for discussions right at the very start and through the engineering.    "And now that it's out and seeing all the great accessibility reviews we're getting, that brings me the biggest joy."    Hamish recently sat down and had a chat with our CEO Shayne Elliott, about why his role matters.    Hamish also appeared in our #Shift20 Initiative, increasing disability representation, inclusion and accessibility in Australian advertising and media.    To learn more about the Shift 20 Initiative, visit: https://lnkd.in/gTWghNhF     To hear Hamish's full interview with Shayne, visit: https://lnkd.in/gRQf6VU9

As a nation, a growing number of Australians can’t access suitable housing. We are simply not building enough housing to match demand, and the challenges for delivering more social and affordable housing are becoming more complex.   That’s why, under the Queensland Government’s Housing Investment Fund and alongside Housing Australia and the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF), we're helping fund Queensland’s largest social and affordable housing project for seniors and people with disability.    The project, located in Cairns, will deliver 490 purpose-built and energy efficient residences, including 245 social housing apartments, 223 affordable homes, and 22 specialist disability accommodation (SDA) apartments.    Mark Whelan, ANZ Group Executive, Institutional, says “ANZ is committed to increasing the supply of social and affordable housing, with a target to fund and facilitate $10 billion of investment in more affordable, accessible and sustainable homes to buy or rent by 2030.”   Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gmN6fCCb   Tetris Capital Community Housing Ltd Department of Housing, Local Government, Planning and Public Works, FCC Construction Australia Modscape Clare O'Neil Anthony Albanese Steven Miles Caryn Kakas

Mental health has a huge impact on every aspect of people's lives. This #RUOKDay, it’s crucial to remember that reaching out and showing support can make a significant difference.          Sarah Soncini, Founder and Chair of our Mental Health Network, exemplifies this commitment.         "Becoming the leader of the ANZ Mental Health Network has been the greatest gift. It has allowed me to become authentically ‘me’ at work. Talking openly about mental health in the workplace is important because it helps remind others that there is help available."        Let’s honor Sarah's leadership by being present for one another, embracing authenticity, and fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and heard.

"On any given night in Australia, we know that 28,000 young people are experiencing homelessness."    “The leading causes of youth homelessness are family and domestic violence along with lack of affordable housing. These issues are outside the control of the young people who are increasingly impacted,” says Steph Say, HoMie Clothing CEO.    For Steph, the strength of HoMie is about helping empower young people. It does this through two different social impact programmes – both of these directly aimed at garnering confidence and capacity building.    We're proud to support community legends like Steph and HoMie, an ANZ customer and previous Community Grant recipient, who recently spent the day selling their streetwear at our Melbourne headquarters.     Watch for more 👇    Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ekevPCjp

“Sports, for me, will cure everything. It keeps me active, it helps me with time management, efficiency and concentration, but most importantly it keeps me learning."    At the age of 11, an accident left channakeshava J (Keshav), who works in our Group Capability Centre in ANZ Bengaluru, without his right hand. From this, he channeled his passion for sports into becoming an inspiring athlete.     "By 18, I was the first participant from India to compete in long jump and the 100 metre sprint in the 2003 Junior Asian Games in Hong Kong.    "In 2021, I was honoured to represent India in Uganda at a Para Badminton Tournament. In 2018, I qualified for the Asian Para Games in Jakarta as the first tenpin bowler to represent India."    As the 2024 Paris #Paralympics take place, Keshav is excited to support the athletics and badminton events, with a keen eye on what future challenges he could conquer.    Read Keshav's story: https://lnkd.in/eKib9Ar3

"While going through a normal hormonal dance phase (perimenopause), I realised that it can shake things up a quite a bit for some of us. Having spoken to few colleagues, there was a feeling of “I am not alone in this journey” and ”I wish someone told me this earlier” and so on.   "Hence the natural thought was to start a community to connect with others to share, learn and support each other along the way. We have started the conversation about women’s health, a topic which has been hushed away for way too long.     "I'm grateful to leaders like Antonia Watson for her support and the amazing team of volunteers to help nurture the community."    Kaberi B. is the leader of our Women's Health community, and is shining a spotlight on health and wellbeing topics relevant to all women, girls and gender-diverse people.     We're proud of our many different employee networks, bringing together employees with lived experience and their allies.       Explore your opportunities and join a team that celebrates diversity: https://lnkd.in/gRUR2F4Q       #WomensHealthWeek #YourVoiceYourChoice
