Repurposing agricultural waste for fuels and fertilisers 🌾 ⛽ Introducing MADE Australia, an innovator in our 2024 GRDC GroundUp Program that is tapping underutilised tech to help farmers convert agricultural waste into cheap fuel and fertiliser. MADE is using novel anaerobic digestion technology to produce biofertilisers and biofuels and develop a scalable ‘biohub’, designed to improve farmers’ yields and profitability without relying on synthetic fuels and fertilisers. The Victorian agritech company’s ultimate goal is for every agricultural community in Australia to have a MADE Biohub – a novel anaerobic digestion technology embedded within a circular bioeconomy where agricultural waste is repurposed to create a reliable, more affordable and zero emissions local supply of biofertilisers and biofuels. Advanced weed targeting technology a ‘game-changer’ for ag 🌾 🚜 Fantastic to see InFarm – one of the innovators in our 2024 GRDC GroundUp program – featured in the latest edition of Queensland Farmer Today. InFarm is focused on solving a major challenge in the grains industry and wider agricultural sector – over spraying of herbicides. The Queensland agricultural company has developed a drone to tractor solution called Fallow Weed, which leverages AI, drones and USB sticks to give farmers precise guidance on where to apply herbicide and how much to spray. The cutting-edge solution also eliminates the need to invest in expensive equipment to target weeds. InFarm CEO Jerome Leray says when deployed across a 750-hectare paddock in the Goondiwindi region, Fallow Weed resulted in a 97.5 per cent saving in chemical usage. Thanks to Fiona Gowers at Queensland Farmer Today for the coverage. You can find out more about InFarm’s solution by checking out their website or coming along to our 2024 GRDC GroundUp Day on Thursday, August 29. Grain tech that’s out of this world! 🌾🛰️ Introducing Messium, a London-based agtech company involved in our 2024 GRDC GroundUp program that is using space imagery to transform grain farming. Messium is able to assess wheat crop nitrogen status remotely by using hyperspectral cameras mounted on satellites. These capture a detailed perspective of the Earth’s surface, including the wavelengths needed for accurate nitrogen concentration estimation. Selected images are then processed using machine learning technology, which is also fed crop growth insights gathered on the ground, to generate nitrogen dilution curves for each field that let farmers determine whether crops are above or below the optimum nitrogen concentration. Messium's innovation allows grain farmers to maintain maximum crop growth and minimise their nitrogen fertiliser use, helping to slash costs and reduce emissions of nitrous oxide. Fantastic to see three of the innovators in our GRDC GroundUp program featured in a news story run by several ACM titles this week, including Farm Online and Queensland Country Life. 🌾 BirdSol (Cherrp.Eco) - has developed an AI-powered, bird-deterrent solution that recognises birds and communicates to them in their own language. 🌾 Metagen - has an innovative product called DIGESTOR, a soil treatment that reduces reliance on chemical inputs such as nitrogen and phosphorus by significantly improving the efficiency of resources already present in the soil. 🌾 Walco Seed Cleaning - has developed an AI-powered tech, known as The Grain Detective, which is enabling faster and more comprehensive grain quality assessments to drive efficiency, profitability and sustainability throughout the agricultural value chain. The article details their tech here: https://lnkd.in/g88xcJHT Thanks to ACM national machinery and agtech reporter Paula Thompson for the great coverage. We are looking forward to seeing how these innovators progress their solutions through GroundUp, a 12-week accelerator program supported by Grains Research and Development Corporation which culminates with a Showcase Day at the Hub on 29 August. #GroundUp #MediaCoverage #Agtech #Grains #Accelerator

Introducing The Grain Detective 🌾🔎 Our 2024 GRDC Ground Up program is helping to fast-track a new AI-powered tech that is transforming grain grading. The device, known as The Grain Detective, is enabling faster and more comprehensive assessments to drive efficiency, profitability and sustainability throughout the agricultural value chain. The device is the brainchild of Walco Seed Cleaning, which is on a mission to harness the power of AI and machine-learning technologies to benefit grain growers and grain handlers. Their Director Kurt Walter is among the participants in our Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) supported GroundUp accelerator, which aims to advance solutions for the grains sector. Kurt says the development of The Grain Detective - which has AI technology integration powered by GoMicro – will create key advancements in the grain industry on all levels. This includes transitioning from static photos to dynamic video-based analysis, enabling faster and more comprehensive grain assessments. Through GroundUp, Walco Seed Cleaning aims to build a robust go-to-market model that will serve as an effective platform for launching their solution with partners and growers. #GroundUp #Agtech #Grains #AgriBusiness #Accelerator

🌾 Leveraging soil resources to increase nitrogen, naturally After seeing his family struggle for many years with ineffective production systems, Shane FitzGerald was inspired to find new solutions to improve soil performance and manage plant disease. With a bachelor's degree in agricultural science, the Lockyer Valley agronomist researched numerous projects and scientific trials in biological farming techniques, which led the team at Metagen to create DIGESTOR. The soil treatment reduces reliance on chemical inputs such as nitrogen and phosphorus by significantly improving the efficiency of resources already present in the soil. Shane is among the innovators in our GroundUp accelerator program, supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC). Shane joined the GroundUp program to get the product in front of industry bodies and learn more about marketing, sales and the potential to export DIGESTOR. We are looking forward to seeing how Metagen progresses its solution, which will ultimately help growers to increase the natural abundance of nitrogen, while maintaining production levels. #GroundUp #Agtech #Grains #AgriBusiness #Accelerator
