As daylight saving begins, your clock is not the only thing to double check – it's time to give your smoke alarm a bit of TLC ⏰ A working smoke alarm increases the chances of you, your family and your home surviving a house fire. Smoke alarms should be tested and cleaned regularly. To ensure your smoke alarm is working: 🔋 Check the batteries, power source and expiry date of your smoke alarm and change if required. 🔉 Test your smoke alarm by pressing and holding the test button for at least five seconds until you hear a beeping sound. 🧹 Clean your smoke alarm with a vacuum to remove dust regularly. It’s easy to let this task slip your mind, so to help you remember, you can align some of your smoke alarm check-ups with changes to daylight saving. To keep your alarms in tip-top shape: ⏰ Once a month: Test your smoke alarms to ensure they are operating properly. 🗓️ Every six months: Vacuum your smoke alarms (or when daylight saving time begins and ends) to keep them dust-free. 📅 Every year: Replace your smoke alarm batteries. ⏳ Every 10 years: Replace all smoke alarms with new smoke alarms after 10 years or earlier if specified by the manufacturer. Heads up! Magpie swooping season is upon us! Remember, magpies only swoop to protect their babies. It can be a bit scary, but there are a few simple tips you can follow to avoid being swooped. 👇 🗺️ If you know of a swooping magpie, change your route. Magpies will only swoop within around 100 metres of their nest. 🚶 Move through the area quickly and calmly (but don’t run). 🕶️ Protect your head with an umbrella, hat or helmet, and wear sunglasses. 👪 Travel in groups! Magpies will usually only attack an individual target. 😤 Don’t act aggressively towards the magpie or you’ll only aggravate it further. 🐕 Keep your dog on a leash. Thankfully, the swooping season is short. Magpies only swoop for around six weeks, and many won’t swoop at all! ➡️ If you’d like to learn more, or you’re concerned about a particularly aggressive magpie, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gzpqHmuJ
