An Environmental Accounting Framework to inform better investment, policy and management decisions in natural capital.

About us

The Accounting for Nature® Framework is free to be used by any organisation or individual to measure the biophysical condition of environmental assets (e.g. native vegetation, soils, freshwater, native fauna, marine) in a project area, across an entire property or within a region, state or even across a nation. The Framework also provides an optional paid certification pathway for interested parties to have their environmental accounts recognised as either “Certified - AfN Verified” or “Certified – Independent Audit” by Accounting for Nature Ltd. Accounting for Nature® “Certified - AfN Verified” and “Certified - Independent Audit” Environmental Accounts are widely considered the source of truth and trust for any sustainability claim that is made with respect to landscape or marine conservation and restoration. These accounts can be used for underpinning government and philanthropic grants, issuance and tracking of green bonds and other financial instruments, monitoring the efficacy of sustainable land management activities, consumer labelling on food and fibre products, undertaking due diligence on impact investments, and credibly linking environmental co-benefits to carbon offset units and underpinning the issuance of nature units under different internationally recognised standards.

🌳🌳🌳 A hat trick for nature: RegenCo registers its third Environmental Account in the Flinders Lofty Block, South Australia.🌳🌳🌳 Introducing the Ridgeview Woodland Birds Environmental Account, marking a significant milestone as the third account registered by RegenCo in this region, using the Accredited Method, a native woodland bird assessment methodology for diverse regenerating farmlands (F-02). Landholders Tim & Christy Luckraft have recognised the impact of traditional farming practices on the ecosystem and are leading the way toward a more sustainable future. By shifting from cropping to a rotational grazing system, they aim to produce paddock-raised lambs that not only coexist with the natural landscape but actively contribute to its regeneration. Their efforts are a testament to their dedication to leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. Situated on a 1700-hectare property within the ecologically diverse Flinders Lofty Block, Ridgeview is experiencing a remarkable transformation. Over the past three decades, the land has gradually moved away from cropping towards grazing, allowing Acacia-dominated woodlands to reclaim previously cleared areas. Now covering about 20% of the property, these woodlands have become a thriving habitat for woodland birds, including species like the chirruping wedgebill, chestnut-crowned babbler, and the rare Gilbert's whistler. Nestled between the Narien Range to the west and the Depot Range to the east, Ridgeview serves as a critical connecting habitat, enhancing the ecological corridors for these bird species and supporting biodiversity at a regional scale.   📋 Account Name: Ridgeview Woodland Birds 🔖 Account ID: AU00071 📍Location: Flinders Lofty Block, South Australia 🌏 Area: 350 ha 🌳 Assets: Fauna - Woodland Birds   Learn more  🔗  https://bit.ly/3Z1S1Yf This account aims to showcase how thoughtful land management can harmonise agricultural productivity with ecological restoration, reinforcing the importance of holistic assessments in preserving our natural capital. At Accounting for Nature, we provide a framework to accredit tools and metrics, ensuring that environmental outcomes are measurable and verifiable, backed by robust independent science. This empowers landholders to confidently implement practices that improve land management, knowing their efforts can be recognised and prepared for valuation in broader environmental markets. With the registration complete, the Ridgeview Woodland Birds Environmental Account is now moving into the development stage, preparing for certification against our rigorous standard. This next step will ensure that the environmental outcomes achieved are officially recognised, paving the way for the landholders to contribute credibly to both ecological restoration and sustainable agriculture. #NaturalCapital #EnvironmentalAccount #SustainableFarming #Biodiversity #WoodlandBirds #RegenCo #AccountingForNature #EcoFriendlyFarming

🌿 What an incredible visit to the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre, run by the inspiring team at Trees for Life! 🌳 This visionary project is not only restoring the Scottish Highlands' landscapes but also funded through innovative carbon units – a prime example of nature finance supporting large-scale repair. 🌍 We had insightful discussions with Alan McDonnell and Darren Wisniewski on innovative finance models for nature repair, including how initiatives like this can scale biodiversity restoration globally. And, of course, no trip to the Highlands would be complete without a mention of the legend of Loch Ness! 🦕 This visit fuels our work at Accounting for Nature to support and enhance ecosystem health through Certified Environmental Accounts. We’re advancing how our Framework can align with nature-positive investments that truly make a difference! 🌱 #NatureRepair #Rewilding #CarbonFinance #Biodiversity #AccountingForNature #DundregganRewildingCentre #TreesForLife #LochNess #MakeNatureCount

🌿 New Environmental Account Registered!   We’re thrilled to announce the registration of the Poonunda Woodland Birds Environmental Account located on Poonunda Station - a 17,000 ha property that connects the foothills of the Flinders Lofty Block to the wide bluebush plains of the Murray-Darling Depression Bioregion, South Australia. The 2,347-hectare account focuses on preserving and enhancing the diversity of Woodland Birds that live in the remnant mallee woodland on the property, including threatened species like the Hooded Robin (Melanodryas cucullata) and Jacky Winter (Microeca fascinans). 🌳🦉   This is the second account to be registered in SA's mid-North using the Accredited Method, A Native Woodland Bird Assessment Methodology for Diverse Regenerating Farmlands (F-02), further demonstrating the local landholders' dedication to a holistic management approach. With this method, developed by Kilter Rural and applied to Poonunda through the professional services of RegenCo, the landholders are playing a crucial role in safeguarding the region's unique biodiversity.   📋 Account Name: Poonunda Woodland Birds 🔖 Account ID: AU00070 📍Location: Flinders Lofty Block, South Australia 🌏 Area: 2,347 ha 🌳 Assets: Fauna - Woodland Birds   The Oates family, who have been stewards of this land for over a century, is not only focused on high-quality sheep meat and wool production but has also embraced innovation through land regeneration and conservation efforts. Their work at Poonunda, which includes a significant 400-hectare private conservation area, is a testament to the potential of combining traditional farming with modern ecological practices. “With these baselines, we can guide the landholders on actions to enhance the condition of their woodland bird asset, boost farm productivity, and explore commercial pathways to capitalise on improving natural capital,” says Daniel Hanisch, Senior Project Manager at RegenCo.    Stay tuned for more updates on how this account progresses 🔗 https://bit.ly/47756BU   #EnvironmentalAccount #Biodiversity #NaturalCapital #Sustainability #WoodlandBirds #Conservation #CarbonFarming #LandRestoration #AccountingForNature #MakeNatureCount 📷Vecteezy.com
