Your #IAPWeeklyRead 🎯 Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping industries globally, but how ready are developing countries to leverage its potential? This article explores how AI can drive productivity, address development challenges, and support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in these economies. AI offers transformative benefits, from improving food production to creating jobs. However, it also poses risks, such as job displacement, particularly in retail and manufacturing. Interestingly, many developing countries may be shielded from the worst impacts, with only 0.4% of jobs in low-income countries expected to be replaced by AI (ILO, 2023). Strategic policy actions are essential to ensure these nations can harness AI’s benefits and build a resilient future. #IAPWeeklyRead 🎯 The war represents a major shock to the industrial capabilities of Ukraine. While there has been extensive disruption, many firms have implemented strategies to adapt to the new context. One such strategy is partial or total firm relocation, which may fundamentally change the economic geography of the country. New territorial disparities are rising fast, with regions bordering Russia suffering the most from direct damage, loss of human capital, and a deep cut in cross-border economic relations. Industrial recovery efforts should explicitly avoid perpetuating these regional imbalances. This article looks at the main characteristics of firms that became “footloose” and the key determinants behind their adaptation strategy to identify policy support schemes to tackle spatial inequalities. Learn how spatial mobility can potentially boost the overall resilience of the Ukrainian economy. #DidYouKnow 💡 Around 70% of international trade flows through global value chains, but ensuring sustainability in these complex networks is challenging. Some leading firms are responding with risk-management strategies like auditing and imposing fines, but this often prioritizes short-term shareholder gain over long-term sustainability. There’s a critical need for a paradigm shift: instead of short-term strategies, companies should focus on collaborative approaches that develop skills and enhance business legitimacy for lasting impact. 💭 Read the latest article by Mattias Larsen and Denise Zwiauer to explore why a collaborative shift is essential for sustainable supply chains and how it can address the skills gap in compliance. 🌍💼 https://lnkd.in/dQwsh-Hq #SustainableTrade #SupplyChain #GlobalValueChains #Sustainability #SkillsDevelopment
