Info
The Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation is an international non-governmental organization established on the initiative of the Austrian Foreign Ministry in 2010. It is operated by the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey. The official opening ceremony of the VCDNP was held on 25 February 2011 at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria. The VCDNP’s mission is to promote international peace and security by providing a platform for independent analysis and dialogue in the field of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. In order to fulfill its mission, the VCDNP employs conferences, seminars, and other fora to foster result-oriented discussion among international organizations, national governments, non-governmental experts, scholars, and civil society. The Center partners with other academic and non-governmental institutions, as well as international organizations in conducting research, outreach, education, and training on non-proliferation and disarmament.

🙌 VCDNP Senior Research Associate Ingrid Kirsten joins #nuclear industry experts to explore the future of peaceful uses of nuclear technology to boost development in #Africa ⚛ 🌍 Listen to the latest podcast episode by #SMR developer Blue Capsule Technology for the full story ➡ https://lnkd.in/eJUN_WQp
NEW 🎧 "Nuclear technology hits all the sweet spots." The latest edition of the Blue Nuclear Pod gives an African perspective on the promise of #nuclear energy and nuclear science, with special guests from Necsa and the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency. 🔎 From the sidelines of a special Wilton Park conference held earlier this month in South Africa, we touched on: ⚛ peaceful uses of nuclear beyond electricity; 🌍 the African Union’s #Agenda2063; ✅ the technical successes of waste management; 🏭 the industrial potential of SMRs; and, 🙋♀️ why we need better communication on the benefits of nuclear energy. 🎬 We were delighted to be joined by Loyiso Tyabashe, CEO of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA), as well as Rebecca Tadesse, Head of the Radioactive Waste Management and Decommissioning Division at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency. 🎤 On this occasion, the pod was hosted by Ingrid Kirsten of the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation (VCDNP), and our very own Blue Capsule president Edouard Hourcade. 🎧 Catch the full episode on: Spotify ▶ https://lnkd.in/eaXpUSGh YouTube ▶ https://lnkd.in/eJUN_WQp #nuclearenergy #nuclearscience #radioisotopes #SMRs #processheat #industry #environment #Africa #sustainabledevelopment #SDGs

🙌 VCDNP Senior Fellow Angela Kane analyses strengths and shortfalls of the G7 Leaders' Vision on Nuclear Disarmament in the latest #Hiroshima Report, published by the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace and the Japan Institute for International Affairs. The four-page statement adopted at the G7 Summit in Japan reiterated states’ commitment to achieving a world without nuclear weapons. However, insertions about the deterrence value of nuclear weapons and the absence of Russia and China from the Summit undermined its significance, Ms. Kane argues. She calls on states to make good on their risk reduction pledges in 2024 ☢ 🕊 Read more ➡ https://lnkd.in/dQk_TdYe
