Our NanoOne has been featured in an exciting new Hot Paper in Angewandte Chemie from the brilliant minds of Wanwan Qiu, Xiao-Hua Qin and team! They have developed a photocleavable coumarin-based hydrogel, that can be processed at high efficiency in the presence of cells. For many biologically relevant structures and patterns, a subtractive approach is often superior to the conventional additive approach. Take a look at the paper below for more information. We're excited to highlight our exceptional team lead of Production, Sebastian Theiner! 🛠   Sebastian remembers from a young age a curiosity for learning how everyday applications and machines work. This was the start of his journey towards getting a Bachelor's in Electronics from the University of Applied Sciences Vienna (Fachhochschule Technikum Wien) followed by a Master's in Biomedical Engineering from Vienna University of Technology (Technische Universität Wien). His master’s thesis focused on extrusion bioprinting, an area that he felt passionate about due to its potentially huge positive impact on humanity.   Following his schooling, Sebastian joined UpNano in August of 2021 to begin a new journey with us. At UpNano, Sebastian started with the building of machines and performing field installations. As the company grew, so did his responsibilities. He quickly advanced to a deputy team lead then to the team lead of our Production team.   Today, Sebastian's role involves less travel and more administrative duties, including laser adjustments on machines, team management and remote customer support. Sebastian manages a dynamic team of five and fosters a collegial atmosphere, ensuring everyone feels valued and heard.   Some of Sebastian's favorite parts of the job are traveling and meeting new people, along with seeing our technology in action. Witnessing the countless ways our customers innovate with a machine he had a part in creating is extremely gratifying.   Thank you, Sebastian, for your dedication and leadership. Last week we met for a progress update and planning meeting for Vaporshine, our current Eurostars project! 🌟 We're thrilled to share an update on this project, which is funded by Eureka/EU, aimed at developing a cutting-edge hydrogen contamination sensor. Joint goal is to revolutionize the hydrogen e-fuel quality control market with a compact, highly accurate sensor. Leveraging the latest innovations in quantum/interband cascade laser design and 3D-printed micro mirrors, this sensor will offer real-time monitoring, increased production efficiency, reduced costs, and improved process safety. Key Project Highlights include: · A compact multi-wavelength laser source, integrating 4 widely tunable diode lasers and interband cascade lasers via 2PP-printed micro-optics on chip level · Novel infrared laser fabrication methodology enabling even waver-level integration of 2PP-printed micro-optics · Potential for fully integrated miniaturized optical sensing setups In our recent in-person meeting we celebrated significant progress and enjoyed the summer weather together here in Vienna. We're proud to see the work of Sebastian Kluck of IMTEK, University of Freiburg, in collaboration with Glassomer GmbH and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) as well as our team, finally published and out for the world to see! The paper in Advanced Science, demonstrates the results of our joint project, SUB-MI-T, funded by FFG Austrian Research Promotion Agency and iraSME. It highlights a novel manufacturing process that enables the replication of metal insets with submicron resolution and low surface roughness, based on the subsequent combination of two-photon polymerization (2PP), fused silica replication, metal casting, and hot embossing.
