The ambitious Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) is set to become a symbol of unity and progress, designed to be green, smart, inclusive, and sustainable. To support this vision, UNIDO recently hosted the 'Bridge for Cities Workshop' in Jakarta, bringing together global experts to tackle the challenges of urban development. Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages globally. However, in many coffee-producing countries, farmers struggle to earn a living wage from their coffee production. This is the #CoffeeParadox. Despite the increasing importance of coffee in global consumption, the benefits from the expansion of the coffee industry have not always trickled down to the people across the whole value chain.  The sector is burdened by several challenges:  📉 Volatile market prices  🌡️ Climate change impacts  💸 Rising production costs  👵 Aging workforce  🚺 Gender inequality Women and young people face substantial challenges in the industry. Despite women contributing 70% of the labour, they hold only 20% of the land ownership and leadership positions. Addressing this gender imbalance and supporting these vital contributors is crucial. In 2023, an estimated 733 million people faced hunger worldwide, marking a nearly 20% increase since 2019. Additionally, 2.33 billion people experienced moderate to severe food insecurity, with over 864 million of these individuals suffering from severe food insecurity, meaning they ran out of food at times during the year. Despite these alarming figures, a world without hunger is possible. The upcoming World Without Hunger Conference (#WWHC) will explore critical topics, investment opportunities, and solutions for post-harvest loss reduction and agro-industrialization. As the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (#UNIDO), we aim to leverage cutting-edge technologies and expert knowledge to create lasting impacts on global food systems and drive meaningful progress toward eradicating hunger. We are honored to have Gunther Beger as keynote speaker at our Sustainability osapiens Summit 2024! 🎉 As Managing Director for SDG Innovation and Economic Transformation at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and former Director General at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) he has significantly contributed to initiatives like the "Green Button" label and the German Partnership for sustainable textiles, ensuring high ecological and social standards in the textile supply chain. Gunther Beger has a clear opinion on the opportunities and challenges that the implementation of the regulations presents for supply chains and their stakeholders: "Global supply chains are more complex than ever.
