Want to learn more about #clinicaltrials, who conducts them and how they work? 🤔 The consortium of the #TTVguide project includes 13 clinical trials centers from all around Europe. Meet UMCG, the Universitair Medisch Centrum #Groningen, and its wonderful team of scientists including Stephan Bakker, Jip Jonker, Sietske Doorenbos and many more!! All clinical/recruitment centres of our project are university-based tertiary care centres with a high-volume #kidneytransplant unit. The local principal investigators (PIs) at the participating trial sites are internationally recognised #experts in the field of #kidneytransplantation with a track record of successful conduction of interventional clinical trials. Supported by our clinical trials management team around Jette Rahn at Technische Universität Dresden, we are currently finalising the randomisation of patients for our study. 🔔 HNN3.0 Social Campaign 🔔  Health Success Stories: The TTV-GUIDE TX Project 🔷 🔍 TTV-GUIDE TX project aims to estabilish a novel method for tailored immunosuppressive therapy for kidney transplant recipients based on Torque Teno Virus (TTV) monitoring. This approach aims to reduce the risk of infection, rejection, and side effects while optimizing patient outcomes. 📈 Once established in routine clinical care, TTV guidance might reduce infections caused by immunosuppressors and kidney transplant rejection. In the future TTV might also help patients with liver, heart and lung transplantation and guide therapy in autoimmune, infectious and oncologic diseases. And it's a wrap!! 🥳 We are very happy and proud to announce that we have officially finalised the recruitment for our #TTVGuide trial. This means that no further patients can be included in the trial. Randomisations, however, are not affected. Patients who are already in the screening phase can still be randomised. Also, as the graphic hereunder shows, 11 out of 13 sites have already reached their recruitment target!! 🙌 📋 What’s our trial about you may ask? We aim to prove that low levels of the Torque Teno Virus (#TTV) in the blood might flag a risk for organ rejection in kidney transplants, while a high TTV load could signal infection. 🤔 Why does it matter? We're aiming to hand healthcare providers a clever tool – a so called “immune-meter”. By monitoring TTV levels in the blood, we hope to offer a clear picture of a #transplant recipient's immune system response. It's an important trial for the future of kidney transplantation and if we are successful, ultimately for many other fields of medicine too!
