Over a million people have already been displaced by the ongoing war in #Lebnon. Children are being killed, injured and displaced every day since the conflict escalated. Without specialist psychological help, the effects of this trauma will last. SOS Children's Villages Lebanon is scaling up efforts to support internally displaced people with clothes, cash assistance and psychosocial support. Young people living in gamily-like care volunteer to participate. 'Seeing the real struggle of people so closely instead of just hearing about it in the news saddens me, but strengthens my commitment to help those in need,' says 14-year-old Maria.

🌍 What a journey! After two years of intensive work involving 10 universities, 8 countries, and more than 1000 research participants, I had the immense honor of presenting our Global Report on Children’s Care and Protection yesterday at the United Nations in New York, alongside the dedicated scholars and professionals who contributed. The report aims to deepen understanding and prevent the separation of children from their families. Key takeaways: 🤝 We need a coordinated, child- and family-centered approach across social protection, child protection, education, and health to support families and address root causes before separation occurs. 💡 We need to better understand the dynamics behind separation - which is not a one-time event, but a process: we need to adopt a life-course perspective in research to better understand children's experiences of various forms of separation from their families ❗ The lack of high-quality, longitudinal data on children affected by or at risk of separation limits research and insights, highlighting an urgent need for better data systems 🤩 Thankful to have collaborated with inspiring professionals: Claudia Arisi, Mathilde Scheffer, Michelle Purcell, Sofía García García, Nilay Tuncok, Dr. Chrissie Gale, Susan Short, Jessaca Leinaweaver, Lanna Idriss, Roseline Olumbe, Joumana Yeretzian, Charlotte Bredahl Jacobsen, Trine Cecilie Riis-Hansen, Cecilie K. Moesby-Jensen, Paola María Navarrete Gálvez, Lira Djuraeva, Peter Hermann Kamph, Verónica Burstin, María Natalia Bueno Torres Benoit Piot Anne Mitaru - LL.M. Bertil Videt-Que and many many more. This journey has only just begun; there’s so much more to be done to create a world that prioritises care for all. Here’s to making these insights actionable and impactful! #UN #ChildProtection #FamilySupport #SocialWork #prevention Link to event: https://lnkd.in/dV9FDUAU Report: https://lnkd.in/dpUAH6Z6

Years of work in Gaza and across the Occupied Palestinian Territory have shown us that UNRWA’s humanitarian assistance is an essential lifeline, providing critical services to children and families facing severe hardship. The recent decision by Israel’s Knesset to bar UNRWA from delivering these services threatens to sever this lifeline. 👉 Full statement of Dr. Dereje Wordofa, President of SOS Children's Villages International: https://lnkd.in/dKSXrsmN

Talking openly about mental health can break down barriers, foster empathy, and build communities. When we share our struggles and victories, we show others that they are not alone - and that there is no shame in seeking help. In the #WellU project, we’ve seen how powerful personal stories can be. Refugee children, caregivers, and lay professionals have shared their experiences, helping to reduce the stigma around mental health in communities across Europe. By opening up these conversations, we’re promoting understanding and ensuring that more people feel safe reaching for support. Together, we can rewrite the narrative and bring mental health into the open. Your story matters. #MentalHealthMatters 👉 https://lnkd.in/dqsGeniv #EU4Health #EU4H #MHPSS 🎨 Illustration by Mariia Pleshakova, an illustrator and graphic designer specializing in children’s book art.
