Imagine that: Whe the floods hit Austria in mid-September, the impact on freight transport was felt far beyond our borders. Trains were standing still as far as in Bremen in northern Germany, 760 km away from Vienna. 🚆 ✅ Today, 75% of our traffic on the western route is running again and we can say that we got off lightly. Because we were able to avoid what would have been a catastrophe for our economy, a complete shutdown of the industry. 📅 On 10 October, the third of a total of five tracks on the western line will be opened. We expect to be able to produce the vast majority of rail freight volumes from a capacity perspective. 🤝 A big thank you to everyone who has made these achievements possible. ⚠️ Good news for rail freight in Austria and beyond. ⚠️ Despite extensive flood damage on the western line - ÖBB's most important transport artery between St. Pölten and Vienna - we have made significant progress. As of saturday, we're back to operating 75% of our pre-flood capacity. 🦾 🔀 Together with extensive diversions e.g. via the southern route and Summerau, we are implementing solutions to ensure that operations will further pick up. Improvements like these will also help restoring full service across Europe. The recovery is happening faster and more effectively than expected, made possible by the exclusive opening of the Tullnerfelder railway for freight traffic. This is a clear sign of the excellent cooperation within #TeamÖBB. 🤝 We remain committed to the opening of the second track on the western line by October 10, which will bring further relief. Thank you for your continued trust. We’ll keep pushing forward, doing everything we can for you in the coming weeks and months. The flood has caused unprecedented damage to the railway infrastructure, the likes of which we haven't seen in a hundred years. 🌊 Where once 550 trains a day ran on the western line in Lower Austria, there are now only 150 - less than a third of the normal capacity. We’re using all available resources to increase capacity and reroute trains where possible. 🔀 However, we ask for your understanding that this may still not be enough. It will take months to restore rail freight to its full potential. We need patience and perseverance, as progress will be gradual, including for rail infrastructure in the most affected regions of Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania and Hungary. 🌍 ⚠️ The next step towards relief will come on 10 October when the second track of the old western line is reopened, increasing capacity to 300 trains a day. This will bring us back to the operational level of 2012. We know that the road ahead will be tough and will require our best efforts over the coming weeks and months. It's up to us to get back to normal and show what we're made of. Let's make it happen. 🦾 We are #Railcore ÖBB Rail Cargo Group © ÖBB Mayer / Wegscheider

Major connections closed for longer ⛔️ In #Austria, flooding has severely affected key connections such as the Western Line, which is currently operating on one track instead of four. Due to the extent of the damage, clean-up and reconstruction work is expected to take several months. 🚧 Unfortunately, rail freight transports continue to be restricted as a result. Our experts are working around the clock to assess the situation and get transports back on track as quickly as possible. Overcoming today's challenges, building tomorrow's freight solutions 🚆 🦾 While we're currently dealing with the disruption caused by flooding across much of Europe, we remain committed to supporting our customers and restoring full service as quickly as possible. Even as we face these challenges, we remain focused on long-term solutions that will shape the future of freight transport. 🛤️ At the Transporeon Summit at the Hofburg in Vienna, we demonstrated to 500 international logistics professionals from around the world that our multimodal logistics solutions make it even easier to switch to rail, and that entire supply chains can be made much more sustainable and less CO2-intensive. The fact that there is no need for a siding and that Transporeon's customers can remain in their preferred system underlines our approach of offering a holistic and low-threshold logistics solution, focusing on rail for the long haul and flexibly handling the first and last mile by truck. 🛤️ The ORF was on site today for an inspection of the western line through the Tullnerfeld, Austria's central east-west connection for freight and passenger traffic. The picture below shows the challenges we are currently facing in delivering our customers' goods. 🌊 The water level in the Atzenbrugg tunnel was one metre. The task now is to restore the power supply, pump out the water and repair the damage. 👷 Since Saturday, 500 ÖBB infrastructure employees have been working in shifts to get the railway system up and running again throughout Austria. External help is also being brought in to speed up the return to normal operations. Step by step, the massive barriers are being removed. It is difficult to make predictions, but the situation is slowly improving by the day. Watch the video here: ➡️ https://lnkd.in/di5HHxnn © ORF

⚠️ As the rain begins to subside, the situation remains tense to alarming across much of Europe, particularly in Austria, Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic. Where the floods are receding, the scale of the disaster is becoming increasingly apparent and will continue to challenge those affected for weeks to come. 🛤️ The rail freight sector is currently busy repairing the damage to the badly affected infrastructure. Tracks need to be cleared of trees and mud, or in some cases have been completely undermined - as here on the line between Bohumin and Vrbice. The completion of this work is the prerequisite for safety-related maintenance measures that will guarantee the smooth transportation of goods again in the future. 🏭 Our #TeamRCG is working around the clock to reassess the situation so that we can systematically resume operations to ensure supplies to industry and the public. A huge thank you to everyone involved, you know who you are. 💗 If you have any questions about your shipments or before sending new shipments, please contact your #RCG representative. We will of course keep you informed of the latest developments. Thank you for your understanding and please stay safe! For further details please visit: ➡️ https://ow.ly/m5Xu50To9tx © RCG

⚠️ Extreme weather across much of Europe has turned the lives of thousands of people upside down. We are watching helplessly as torrents of water sweep through villages and entire regions, leaving a trail of destruction across Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania and Hungary. This force of nature is also having a severe impact on rail freight. Key routes and corridors are currently impassable. We are working day and night to get traffic moving again, as security of supply to industry is our top priority. If you have any questions about your shipments or before sending new shipments, please contact your #RCG representative. We will of course keep you informed of the latest developments. ⚠️ Severe restrictions due to extreme weather ⚠️ Austria is currently experiencing extreme weather conditions: storms combined with heavy rain and snow are affecting freight traffic. Important routes and corridors are currently blocked. ⛔ ➡️ For this reason, we have no choice but to reduce freight traffic to an absolute minimum for the time being. This will minimise potential risks and ensure the safety of our staff and your goods. Safety is our top priority. We will of course keep you informed of developments. If you have any further questions, please contact your #RCG contact person. We thank you for your understanding.
