And so the electrification of the world began! Thomas Edison's factory was the start of a new era of electricity, replacing old and inefficient lighting methods like gas and kerosene. 🌱 Today, we’re following a similar path, only this time, the shift is from fossil fuels to renewables. The opening of Edison's factory marked the beginning of an energy-conscious mindset, and we're still working on perfecting it as we innovate toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.     🤖 How ChatGPT saved us over 180 hours of work (and priceless peace of mind) As a small marketing agency, we spend a lot of time polishing up our clients' LinkedIn posts for great quality. ✨ Sure, most time is spent on usual discussions about content and messaging, but in the past, a considerable amount of time was wasted on going back and forth on grammar fixes, catching typos, and cleaning up sentences. With over 20 posts a week, that meant a lot of small corrections, each taking about a minute to fix. Multiply that by four people that all had to detect the errors or simply had to browse through them in the comment section, and you get some serious time drain. 🕳 ➡️ Then ChatGPT came along. While it didn’t magically write the posts for us (as some would believe), we could let ChatGPT correct our final drafts for the grammar blunders, we would have needed another set of human eyes to detect. But how much time did this save us? Here’s the math: ➕ 20 posts per week ➕ 1-2 grammar tweaks per post ➕ Each tweak taking about 1 min for the team to browse, review and fix ⏳ This makes a net 2 hours per week and a total of 182 hours that we’ve saved from December 2022 onwards. But it’s not just about time saved - this has also spared us a lot of mental energy. 💢 Catching tiny mistakes over and over again can be exhausting, and now we can channel that focus into more creative, strategic work. Less draining corrections means more brainpower for the things that really matter.     Ever read a fascinating post and halfway through you realized that it’s actually an ad? It was famous Mad Men-era advertising exec Howard Gossage that first started this innovative marketing approach in the 1960s! Introducing quality copy for advertising, he was also nicknamed “The Socrates of San Francisco”. 🏛 Before Gossage, so pre-1960s, the hard-sell approach and scientific advertising dominated the media. If you weren’t told to “Act Fast!” or “Buy Now!”, then you were most likely told in a systemic, rational, and frankly boring, fashion why a company’s product is right for you.  And then, Howard Gossage entered the marketing world via an advertising agency run out of an old San Francisco firehouse. Though his ideas may be around 6 decades old, it can be beneficial to revisit them as they can provide inspiration. Here’s are some of his key contributions to marketing: 💃 Gossage saw ads as more than just a means to an end, the end being selling the product. He believed that advertisements can also be entertainment and that if they caught the audience’s attention by being amusing, it could successfully deliver a message. 📖 During a time when advertisers favored short, punchy slogans, Gossage used long-form copy. He filled is advertisements with wit and intelligence, connecting with the audience on a deeper level.  📣 Advertisement used to be all about reaching as many people as possible by trying to appeal to the masses. Gossage saw that engaging with smaller audiences, i.e. niches, could bring greater results since they felt more personally spoken to.  So the next time you feel your audience’s attention begin to wane, think of Gossage’s approach. Whether you’re crafting an ad, a social media post, or a content strategy, remember that it's not just about the sale—it's about making a connection.     Today is World Cogeneration Day! It's the day when we celebrate the simultaneous production of electricity and useful heat from a single energy source. But what should make us feel joyful about this? Well, while traditional power plants release heat, the byproduct of electricity generation, into the environment, cogeneration systems capture and utilize it for heating buildings or even driving industrial processes. This makes cogeneration a lot more green than a classic power station. ♻️ ♾️ Traditional power plants have an efficiency rate between 30 to 50% while cogeneration systems can achieve levels up to 90%!  This means that less fuel is used to produce the same amount of energy, which reduces the overall environmental impact. Here's some real-life examples of how cogeneration can also be sustainable: 🇺🇸 The University of California, San Diego microgrid includes a cogeneration plant that runs on natural gas and is integrated with solar panels. This system provides electricity, heating, and cooling for the university campus and reduces the need of fossil fuels with the use of solar energy. 🇩🇰 Copenhagen’s District Heating System is also an excellent example of cogeneration. It incorporates cogeneration plants fueled by biomass and waste, heating almost all of the city’s buildings.  🇧🇪 Belgium has another example of innovation with the Roeselare Wastewater Treatment Plant where biogas is captured from sewage sludge and is used to power a cogeneration system. This generates electricity that is used on-site and the heat is used in the treatment process, rendering the plant energy self-sufficient.   Feel like celebrating cogeneration yet?     How many AI-generated posts have you read this week, just scrolling through LinkedIn? Was it 10 or rather 1000? The phrases “embark on a journey” and “thrilled to announce” are so overused nowadays that even when an actual person writes it, you want to pull your hair out. 💢 It gets so exhausting reading the same words over and over in different companies' posts. But how can you make sure to not sound too mechanical and machine-like? How do you go about finding your authentic voice? Well first step: uninstall ChatGPT. After you've done that, use our favorite strategies for writing great content: 📖 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆. This is what will really make your audience connect with you and your brand. On a deeper level, we all want to be able to relate to each other as human beings. If you can do this with your audience then you are giving them a sense of community that will keep them coming back to your brand. Even better, they’ll want to share and comment on your post! 🔬 𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁. Nothing keeps your audience small like using terms only your employees grasp. Using technical wording can be alienating for those that don’t comprehend it, and if you want to grow your readership then it is wiser to use vocabulary that more can understand.  👯 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱. Instead of lecturing them about how great your brand is or how “thrilling” an event was, start your post off with a question. This will catch the reader’s attention and will make them think of an answer. Starting your post off with a funny anecdote or relating your post to something currently happening in the news (also known as newsjacking) will also keep your audience's eyes glued on your post.
