Last week, UNIDO Invest in ACP undertook a comprehensive mission to the #DominicanRepublic involving several meetings with strategic partners, government bodies, and companies supported by the #EU & #OACPS-funded #ACPBizFriendly Programme to strengthen collaboration for achieving our goals: supporting sustainable investments and improving skills for investment mobilization in the Caribbean. Mission was undertaken by Mr Brian Portelli, Chief Technical Adviser, supported by Ms Marsie Gonzalez R., Investment Promotion Country Coordinator, UNIDO. The mission, which took place between 15-20 July, included: ✅ Meeting with the European Union Delegation to the #DR for a Programme update meeting, with special thanks to Mr Luis Araque, Mr Melvin Asin, Mr Alan Fernandez Mateo ✅ Meeting with the Gabinete de Inversion - Vice-Presidency leading Cabinet for Investment Promotion ✅ Meetings with ProDominicana for partner coordination and value added of ACP BF, with special thanks to Ms Angelina Biviana Riveiro Disla and her team ✅ Presenting UNIDO's solutions methodology for IPAs at the WAIPA Regional Meeting, with special thanks to Mr Ismail Ersahin ✅ Meeting with AIREN RD aimed at fostering collaboration amongst IPIs and IPA for a regional outreach ✅ Meeting with Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, partner supporting women in business SMEs to bridge the gap of finance ✅ Meeting with Ministerio de Economía, Planificación y Desarrollo (MEPYD), special thanks to Ms Lidia Encarnacion highlighting needs, opportunities and future actions ✅ Meeting with Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores República Dominicana (MIREX), expanding business diplomacy and investment promotion abroad ✅ Visiting Chocolate Mountain (programme-supported company) - Ecotourism project based on cocoa experience supporting local communities and diversifying cocoa transformation ✅ Visiting LABVEE (programme-supported company) - innovating access to STEM to children at schools strengthening their immersion in technology ✅ Visiting T-ECO (programme-supported company) - bringing technology and digitalization education closer to children and youth for skills of a thriving #Caribbean See a glimpse of the mission in the video below ⬇️ Find more information about investment projects from the Dominican Republic on the Invest-in-ACP Portal: https://lnkd.in/dFaHNjEt

Last week’s WAIPA Regional Meeting brought together WAIPA members in the Central America and Carribean as well as WAIPA Consultative Committee members UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), International Trade Centre, UNIDO, and UN Tourism Academy to discuss initiatives for the Central America and Carribean region. The meeting, led by WAIPA Steering Committee Member ProDominicana, included a number of IPAs from the region, e.g. Promotora del Comercio Exterior de Costa Rica (PROCOMER), Curinde N.V., Invest Saint Lucia, Bermuda Business Development Agency (BDA), Invest Guatemala, Invest Turks and Caicos and Invest Barbados. It was inspiring for WAIPA to see the active engagement in the region and we remain committed to supporting and enhancing the cooperation of IPAs in Central America and the Caribbean.

The UNIDO #ACPBizFriendly Delegation comprising Ms Marsie Gonzalez R., Investment Promotion Country Coordinator and Ms Cindy Mendieta, International Finance Expert, will actively promote investment opportunities from the #DominicanRepublic in support of partner Investment Promotion Institutions (IPIs) Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (#PUCMM), Center for Exports and Investment of the Dominican Republic (#ProDominicana), represented by Ms Sarah Rivera de Bolonotto, Investment Projects Specialist, and AIREN RD at the 2024 Caribbean Investment Forum between the 10th and 12th of July. Last week, between 1-4 July 2024, UNIDO undertook an #ACPBizFriendly Meso-level mission to #Ghana. Here is what happened: Day 1️⃣: Strategic Discussions between UNIDO and GFZA On July 1st, the UNIDO team, headed by Mr Tamer Tandogan, Policy Specialist and Data Analyst, met with H.E. Amb. Micheal Oquaye Jnr, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), to discuss the implementation of the ACP Business-Friendly Programme funded by the #EU and #OACPS in Ghana. The meeting was also attended by Patience Agbleze Acorlor, Lawrence Osei-Boateng Esq., and other representatives of GFZA, along with Mr Eric Kwasi Gyenin, UNIDO National Project Coordinator.   📱 The agenda included the digitalization of aftercare services and capacity building, aiming to enhance a conducive business environment by improving communication between investors and the authority. 🏭 Amb. Micheal Oquaye Jnr emphasized the importance of developing new infrastructure due to the full capacity of current free zones. This initiative is crucial for private sector development and economic growth in Ghana. Day 2️⃣: GFZA Training on DIPS and IMSS Survey On July 2nd, UNIDO and #GFZA organized a training session on the Digital Investment Promotion System (DIPS) and the Investment Monitoring and Support Services (IMSS) survey. With 26 participants from GFZA, the training covered the main elements of the ACP Business-Friendly Programme framework, specifically focusing on investment facilitation and FDI intelligence support. GFZA showed commitment to a seamless transition to online Aftercare services and effective post-data collection processes. Day 3️⃣: Stakeholder Meeting for Awareness Creation Despite the challenging weather, the stakeholder meeting on July 3rd saw great participation from 20 company representatives and 45 total participants. UNIDO’s and GFZA's teams led the discussions on the IMSS survey's importance and its role in the ACP Business-Friendly Programme. Afternoon visits to Tema Freezone Enclave companies Dignity Dtrt Ltd. (DTRT Apparel Group) and NICHE COCOA INDUSTRY LTD. provided valuable insights into their perspectives on online aftercare services. Together, UNIDO, GFZA and Businesses are building a more data-driven and responsive investment environment! Day 4️⃣: GIPC IMSS Survey Preliminary Results Presentation On July 4th, we presented the preliminary results of the IMSS surveys to the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (#GIPC) team. The session sparked vibrant discussions on effectively utilizing the data, with an insightful introduction to Investment Relationship Management. UNIDO demonstrated how IMSS data could enhance Aftercare services. We are looking forward to seeing the positive transformations these discussions and training sessions will bring to Ghana's business landscape!
