🌈 Colourful events with our colleagues Our teams have enjoyed Pride Month with a handful of #DEIInitiatives from around the world. Colleagues celebrated these initiatives alongside our LGBTQIA community Network by dressing in rainbow colours, learning about Pride and accessing our LGBTQIA resources. We also welcomed our former colleague and drag artist, Candy Licious as a guest speaker during an Inclusive Culture Club meeting where our colleagues usually discuss DEI topics, sharing different opinions and experiences. While much remains to be done to create a fully inclusive work environment, we continue to work towards an inclusive workplace for our colleagues. Our colleagues' documentary debut in “Dethroned”🎥👑🦁 The premiere in Vienna was a great success with many in attendance! Opening the event was our CEO, Josef Pfabigan, with a speech before stakeholders and supporters took to their seats. Viewers watched as big cats roared in outrage across the world at the atrocities done to them by humans.🌎 The film focuses on humans' exploitation of big cats for entertainment, traditional medicine, farming and more. The commercial trade must come to an end! This unquestionable message strikes the hearts of any who watch the story unfold. After the viewing, there was a live panel discussion between Aaron Gekoski, the film’s presenter, Will Foster-Grundy, the film’s director, and our Head of Wild Animals in Trade, Vanessa Amoroso. Dog Asya was found by our team on the road in critical condition with severe injuries. 🐶 We think she was hit by a car, which sadly happens often to stray animals. 🛣️ She had collapsed on the scorching asphalt, tar sticking to her open wounds and fur. After months of dedicated care at our FOUR PAWS Bankya clinic in Bulgaria, Asya slowly gained her strengths back. 🏥 Today, she is a happy, healthy dog full of energy. Rescued: Orphaned hedgehog 🦔 Recently, a 30-gram baby hedgehog arrived at OWL & BIRDS OF PREY RESCUE STATION Haringsee! Orphaned baby hedgehogs usually need human help to survive, but before stepping in, we should always make sure they truly need our help. 🔍 Larger baby hedgehogs (around 3 to 4 weeks old and around 180-200 gram) often leave their nest to explore and can find their way back without a problem. WARNING🚨Every day we are exceeding our meat consumption! 🥩 High-income countries like the USA, Australia, and Western Europe are the main culprits. 🚫 These regions have exceeded their meat consumption limits, pushing us beyond our planetary boundaries and threatening our health and environment. 🍔 As high meat consumption contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water depletion, we can positively impact critical issues by reducing our meat intake. 🌎 Last week, we already hit the sustainable maximum amount of meat consumption within planetary boundaries for the year as recommended by the EAT-Lancet Commission. For the planet to reduce its meat consumption and stay within safe limits, the data is clear: North America, Europe, and Australia need to reduce their meat consumption by up to 80%. 📉🌿 Join us in taking action! 🤝 We urge everyone—from individuals to policymakers and industry leaders—to take steps towards reducing meat consumption. Highway to Hell 🛣️🔥: Where animals go to die To the unknowing eye, National Highway QL 1A in Vietnam 🇻🇳 is just a normal road. Thousands of cars pass by every day, connecting the country from Ho Chi Minh City in the south all the way up to Hanoi in the north. What most do not know is that millions of dogs and cats are transported to their death on this road every year.   In 2022, we conducted a covert investigation to expose the illegal trafficking of dogs and cats through the Vietnamese province of Ha Tinh. What we have seen is worse than anyone could imagine. Dogs and cats are crammed into tiny cages and transported hundreds of kilometres on trucks and motorbikes, only to be brutally driven out with iron tongs. 🚚🏍️ They are beaten to death with sticks, electrocuted, or have their throats cut once they reach their destination. 🩸 As only animal trucks are required to stop at official checkpoints, traffickers use public buses. We documented one case where over 150 cats and dogs were crammed into the luggage hold of a bus. 🐕🐱 When they arrived at their destination, two thirds of the animals were found dead, most likely suffocated next to the passenger’s belongings. The remaining animals had to be euthanised due to their bad health condition. We know that this is a very hard read. Unfortunately, the video is even worse. Rescued young kestrel in recovery! ✨ This young kestrel fell out of its nest in Witzelsdorf, Lower Austria but was luckily found by caring passers-by. He was weak and hungry but fortunately uninjured. 💛 Thanks to the quick actions of his finders, he made it to our OWL & BIRDS OF PREY RESCUE STATION Haringsee just in time. Our expert team provided him with a few days of special care and he’s now thriving and has moved in with one of our pairs of kestrel hens. The pair of foster parents will take good care of him until he’s ready to be released into the wild. 🦅 We're very grateful for we had the opportunity to help this remarkable young bird on its path to recovery and freedom! 🌿 #OwlAndBirdsOfPreySanctuaryHaringsee #AnimalWelfare #StoryTelling #bird

Roadshow to end the dog and cat meat trade 🐕🐈🍖 ✍ After reaching a monumental 2 million signatures on the petition to end the trade in Southeast Asia, FOUR PAWS has launched its Journey to Compassion nationwide roadshow to rally Vietnamese citizens and call for an end to the brutal trade. 🚐🖥️ Using LED billboard vans to showcase the horrors of the dog and cat meat trade and urging Vietnamese citizens to take part in our newest e-action, we toured through Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Hanoi. Since 2019, more than 250,000 Vietnamese citizens have signed our global petition, recognising that the dog and cat meat trade does not represent Vietnamese values. We could see and feel this support during our tour as well, and talked to many locals who are opposed to this horrible trade happening in their country. 🇻🇳 Each year, more than 6 million dogs and cats are brutally slaughtered in Vietnam. The majority of these animals are stolen pets or community and stray animals taken from the streets to supply the trade. The sheer scale of the trade and the suffering involved makes it one of the most severe companion animal welfare issues in Vietnam, Asia, if not the world.
