Valentine’s Day.
The day Koga usually never cared about. That was different now that he had been dating Adonis for over a month. Soon two months. Koga felt his cheeks heating up at the thought of it. More like at his stupid reaction being all giddy. He wasn’t like that— at least he didn’t think he was like that. He had never dated anyone before Adonis and he wasn’t planning to. It was just ridiculous and embarrassing. How happy Koga would be whenever they were together and that even though they were living together, practically spending every day together and had pushed their beds back together, he was still acting like this.
Ugh, so embarrassing. Totally not how a cool and strong wolf would act like.
Kaoru nudged his side. "Look," he said, pointing at a CD shop’s window. They had a huge cut out of UNDEAD to present their newest single with elaborate decorations. Whoever put it together, was good at it.
"Woah," he said, getting closer.
"That’s pretty cool," Kaoru agreed.
Koga stared at the cutout. Of Adonis right next to him, with Rei on his other side and Kaoru next to Adonis. They’ve come so far, he thought. From Yumenosaki and now this. Not just UNDEAD as an idol group but as friends.
"You don’t need to ogle your boyfriend that much," Kaoru said.
"I’m not— what the fuck," Koga muttered. He hadn’t. But Adonis did look good. His purple hair had been pushed back for this photoshoot and Koga liked it. He thought about how he was now able to touch it whenever he wanted, to let his fingers run through Adonis's hair and Adonis would let him. He would welcome it even.
"The face you make… can’t say I like it."
"I’m not making any face! I’m literally wearing a mask right now!" Koga yapped, pointing at his face mask that both of them, of course, wore to not get recognized on the street. Especially for what they were planning today.
"Okay," Kaoru said and patted Koga on the back. "Let’s go."
Koga growled but he kept walking now to the sweets store. There were a lot of girls around, Kaoru and Koga being the only guys when they entered. A group of excited High School girls was loudly talking about the boys in their class they wanted to give gifts to and Koga held his breath.
He wondered what Adonis would think. He supposed he wasn’t expecting it… and neither was Koga. They were both guys so apart from usual Valentine’s day chocolate you’d gift out of politeness, Koga had never done this before.
"Maybe I shouldn’t," Koga said.
"Yes, you should. You’re lovers," Kaoru said.
Koga glared at him. "Don’t like it when you say it like that."
"What? You are. It’s not like I can ignore it with how lovey-dovey you two have been for almost two weeks straight."
Koga blushed hard. "We’re not lovey-dovey!"
Kaoru laughed and Koga was glad half of Kaoru’s face was hidden. He was sure that smile on his face would piss Koga off.
"Ugh, I didn’t ask you to help me to make fun of me."
"I’m not making fun of you. And I’m glad you asked, I’m very knowledgable in that kind of thing," Kaoru agreed.
"Really? Then why haven’t you confessed to Rei yet?" Koga asked.
Kaoru’s expression dropped. "It’s complicated."
"It really isn’t," Koga said. "You should just do it."
"Not everyone’s like you. Rei’s different."
Koga thought about it. Yeah, Rei was different from Adonis, he supposed. So was Kaoru from Koga. "He likes you too, ya know."
Kaoru looked around the shop mindlessly. "What are we supposed to do then? It’s not like we’d suddenly be so cute like you and push our beds together literally the day we get together like you. He literally sleeps in a coffin."
Koga laughed. "I’m sure it’s big enough for two."
"Ugh, too cramped."
"Wouldn’t ya like that? It’s nice to be close to the person you love."
Kaoru stared at him. "Oh my god, you’re all grown up now."
"Ugh, shut up." Koga rolled his eyes. "Not my fault you can’t get laid."
"I hate you," Kaoru said. Koga grabbed a basket and walked through the aisles, ignoring some of the stares he got from the other customers as Kaoru followed him.
Koga held out a little chocolate bat wrapped in a clear plastic sheet with a red ribbon. "Give this to him. I’m sure that Vampire would like it."
Kaoru stared at it. "You want me to…"
"Yeah."
Kaoru held up his hand. "No way, that’s… way too embarrassing."
"If I can do it, so can you!"
"It’s different! You and Adonis are already dating!"
"Stop being a coward! Aren’t you a womanizer?"
They were getting a bit too loud now, pulling now all attention in the store to them. Kaoru cleared his throat, grabbed the chocolate bat and threw it in the basket. "Fine," he hissed. "Just be quiet now."
They had a day off for Valentine’s Day. They had a pre-recorded video for Valentine’s Day that their agency would tweet later and Kaoru had a Livestream as well for tonight but as for the rest of them, there was nothing to do.
Koga woke up, surprised that Leon wasn’t asking for his attention for a morning walk. "Where’s Leon?" he asked out loud but mostly to himself. Adonis shifted right next to him in his bed. "Argh! Didn’t want to wake you up."
Adonis looked up at Koga, his hair all dissolved and messily falling onto the white pillow underneath. "Good morning," he said in a tired voice and Koga’s heart clenched at the sight of it. He would never get over this, he thought.
"Morning," he said.
Adonis smiled, reached out his hand to stroke Koga’s cheek. Koga couldn’t help himself when he leaned down and pressed a kiss on Adonis’ forehead. "Wanna wake up or keep sleeping?"
"Are you getting up?"
"I need to find Leon and go for a walk," Koga said. He let himself fall down right into Adonis's arms. The familiar warm feeling of Adonis's arms around him was always welcoming. "Yer can stay here. We got nothin’ to do… Keep sleepin’ I’ll come back. Or I could make breakfast for you…"
A knock against the door. "Are you two naked?"
"No?!" Koga shouted back.
Kaoru opened the door. "Good. What is this?" He threw something at them. It was a note from no one else but Rei.
Went out to let the lovebirds spend the entire day together. If you want to join me and spend Valentine’s Day together, find me fufufu.
Koga blinked at the note. "I think he’s asking you out."
"He’s not asking me out. And it’s Day! Why would he willingly go out this early in the morning?"
Adonis sat up, rubbing his eyes. "He told me yesterday that he would leave us alone," Adonis explained. Then he cleared his throat. "Actually, I… I asked him to." Koga noticed that Adonis was a bit embarrassed at it.
Oh. He hadn’t been the only one worrying about all of this. It was cute.
"What about me? You ask him but expect me to just hang out here?"
"He clearly asked you out with this note," Koga repeated.
"That’s not—"
"No, he is right. He is," Adonis agreed.
Kaoru held up his hands. "No, no. Just because you two—"
"Hakaze-senpai," Adonis said with a stern voice. "How long are you going to make him wait?"
Kaoru blushed. "Why isn’t he doing the first step then?"
Koga held up the note, waving it around. "He literally asked you out!"
"In the weirdest way?! We could just hang out… as friends," Kaoru said. "That could be what he meant."
Adonis and Koga exchanged glances and Koga groaned loudly. He got up from the bed and grabbed Kaoru’s shoulders. "Yer gonna find him and then confess to him and stop dancing around each other! We’re supposed to be the kouhais why do we have to tell you what to do?!"
Kaoru opened his mouth but then closed it again. "Why did he never say something before," Kaoru said.
"Probably because yer keep avoiding it! He’s waiting for you to be, ya know…" Koga looked at Adonis.
"I think what Koga wants to say is that Sakuma-senpai doesn’t want to push you," Adonis said.
"Since you were the straightest guy in Yumenosaki," Koga agreed.
"C’mon. I wasn’t."
"You were."
Kaoru pressed his lips together. "I actually thought he was kinda cute back then too."
Koga groaned loudly. "Then get out of here! I wanna have this flat for me and Adonis only! Don’t want to see you!"
"Woah, is that how you talk to your senpai?" Kaoru asked as Koga pushed him out of the bedroom.
"Don’t forget the bat," Koga reminded him.
Kaoru sighed. "How am I supposed to even find him?"
Koga shrugged. Then, he looked around. "Did you see Leon?"
"He took him with him?" Adonis suggested.
Kaoru sighed. "Fine, fine." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Going on a quest to find this guy to confess my love for him or something. Absolutely how I imagined my morning to go."
Adonis smiled. "Good luck," he said and Kaoru muttered something under his breath before leaving them.
Koga turned back to Adonis. "If they’re not together by the time they get back, I will fucking smash their heads together."
Turns out, Rei did take Leon. Kaoru was gone now too, so they had the flat for themselves. They got ready for the day and cooked breakfast next to each other. It was nice, Koga thought. It wasn’t that much different than any other day minus Rei, Kaoru, and Leon being gone but it was nice regardless.
When they were doing the dishes, Adonis spoke up.
"Do you think they will be alright?"
Koga shrugged. "Who cares?"
"You."
"Nah," Koga said. "I mean, yeah. But not today." He put his arms around Adonis's waist, clasping his hands together at the back. "Today’s just you and me."
Adonis smiled. "I like that," he said.
"Yeah, it sounded less cheesy in my head though." Koga huffed and buried his head on Adonis’ shoulder. "Glad yer asked Rei to leave us alone though." He slightly turned his head and bit into the exposed skin right below Adonis’ neck before the T-Shirt’s necklace.
"Me too," Adonis agreed. Koga grinned and leaned in for a kiss.
Since they’ve been together not much has changed. Not really. They were already super close before and barely had an understanding of personal space anyway but now he could just kiss Adonis. Sure, they still did things they used to do as friends and practice together and all those other things but Koga could just kiss him or hold his hand or just be excited at the knowledge that Adonis liked him back.
"I made chocolate for you," Adonis said. "Sakuma-senpai helped me."
"Oh."
Adonis shoulder’s slumped. "Why do you sound disappointed? Do you not like that? I’m sorry if you’re not that excited for Valentine’s Day… I got too excited over it since it’s the first one we’re spending together."
"No! No, not that. Argh, jeez. I feel bad now because I just bought some with that Flirt and you put so much energy into it!" Koga clasped his hands in front of his face. Here he thought he was doing too much and Adonis actually made sweets for him?! He was the worst boyfriend.
"It’s fine," Adonis said. "I like anything you give to me."
"Yer don’t have to be so nice." But knowing Adonis, he meant it. Koga sighed and kissed Adonis again. "I will give you something else today then to make up for it."
"What?" Adonis asked and then, "oh. Okay. I’ll be in your care."
Koga laughed.
Rei and Kaoru came back way too late.
Adonis and Koga were on the couch watching a movie when the door opened and Rei and Kaoru came back.
"Aren’t you two cute," Rei greeted them.
Koga didn’t even bother to move away from Adonis. "Yer back late," he said. Leon jumped towards them and Koga embraced his dog. It’s been less than a day but he missed him. Koga ruffled his fur and smiled brightly.
"Late? I was nowhere near done," Rei said.
Kaoru cleared his throat. "What are you watching?"
"It’s a very old movie," Adonis said. "My sisters and I liked watching it growing up."
Kaoru stared at the screen and Koga was growing impatient.
"So are ya together now or not?"
Rei and Kaoru exchanged glances and it was weird to see them both like this. Especially Rei. Rei, always so suave seemed a bit nervous now too. "Yes," Kaoru said then.
"Fucking finally!"
"I’m happy for you," Adonis said.
"We got wine," Rei said and sat down. "If you don’t mind spending the rest of the night with us."
Koga looked between them.
"We’re not old enough yet," Adonis reminded him.
Kaoru rolled his eyes. "We can make an exception. Just one glass."
Koga sat up straight. "Grab the glasses. We’re gonna celebrate that you two finally got that stick out of your ass."
Rei laughed. "Didn’t know you were rooting that much for us."
Koga shrugged. "I was getting sick of you."
"He really cares," Adonis said, taking Koga’s hand underneath the heavy blanket draped over them. Kaoru got up to get some glasses from the kitchen.
"So, how did it go?" Koga asked.
"You’re so noisy," Rei said.
"Ugh, whatever, if you don’t want to tell us." Koga leaned back against Adonis’ side.
"Fine, if you want to know so badly. It happened at about 11 am when I was—"
Kaoru jumped in between them. "No, no, no. That can stay between the two of us!" He put the glasses down on the small table in front of them. "Just know you don’t have to worry about us anymore!"
"What about the coffin?" Koga asked. "You were worried you wouldn’t fit in."
Kaoru blushed. "I wasn’t!" Koga grinned and the blonde glared at him.
"Were you? I didn’t know," Rei said and put his hand on Kaoru’s shoulder. "It’s big enough for both of us. Besides," he leaned in closer and whispered something in Kaoru’s ear.
Kaoru inhaled sharply. "Let’s just open the bottle!"
