Work Text:
Kara was sitting at her desk at CatCo when someone knocked on her desk. Kara looked up and saw a man with short black hair and a small beard. He had a kind smile with blue eyes. He wore a black button up and blue jeans.
“Hi.” He waved.
“Hi. Can I help you?”
“Kara Danvers?” The man asked.
“Yeah?”
“Sean Harper.” He introduced himself and stuck out his hand for a handshake, which Kara accepted. “Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas. So how may I help you?”
“I was wondering if you would join me at that new cafe down the street.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
“I know it may be weird, but trust me, it’ll be worth it.”
“Look sir, I’m not looking for a date, especially with a guy I just met.”
“Oh, fuck. Sorry. No, definitely not a date. I’m ace anyways. No, actually I think this would benefit you with that dating thing anyways.”
“How?” Kara asked, curious.
“Just trust me. It’s down the street, called Amber’s. Your lunch is about to start and I hope to see you there.”
“How did you-”
Sean got up from his seat and walked away.
“I hope to see you there.” He announced before lowering his voice to a whisper. “Supergirl.”
Of course Kara heard him and her eyes widened in shock. The strange man left without another word, giving Kara no choice but to join him. So when her lunch came around, she traveled down the street until she found Amber’s, but the thing was, she could have sworn that cafe didn’t exist yesterday. Maybe if she could stop daydreaming of a certain CEO, she would have known. Once she entered the cafe, the woman behind the counter holdered to her.
“Welcome! Please take a seat!”
Kara nodded and looked around. She found the strange man in the back sitting in a booth. He was reading a book while drinking something. She took a seat across from him.
“Thank you for joining me.” He said without looking up from his book.
The woman from behind the counter walked over.
“What can I get you?”
“Cappuccino.” Kara replied.
“Coming right up.”
The woman left, leaving Kara alone with this strange man who apparently knows she is Supergirl.
“Why am I here?”
“I want to help you.” Sean said as he finally put down his book. But then the strangest thing happened. The moment the book touched the table, it disappeared.
“What the-”
“You see, Kara, I chose this specific timeline for a reason. Lena knows who you are and it’s all good. Fuck the CW writers for making her hate you.”
“What?”
“Nothing, not important. But my point is, you and Lena are on good terms, but there is one slight thing that doesn’t make it perfect.”
“And what’s that?”
“Girl, you need to ask her out.”
Kara went beat red.
“Uh, what, I- er, no. She’s- I don’t-”
“Look, you can bullshit your way through this, but I know the truth. You want to ask the young Luthor out on a date, to ask her to be your girlfriend, and hopefully one day, ask her to be your wife.”
Kara went even redder.
“Um-”
“Don’t bother denying it. Even a blind man can see you two are in love.” Sean continued. “Look, Kara, I know I’m going at a confusing way of telling you this, but I want to help.”
“What?”
“I want to help. Consider me the genie to your Aladdin. But instead of three wishes with some rules, it’s unlimited but I have the right to say no.”
“Wishes?” Kara asked, getting more and more confused.
“Kara, I’m very powerful. I can do anything, and I don’t say that in an egotistical way, fuck Homelander, I say that factually. Watch.”
Sean laid his hand flat on the table. When he raised it, there was a miniature Christmas tree on the table.
“How did you do that?”
“Actually, now that I think of it.” He waved his hand and suddenly there was a cassette tape recorder in his hand. He pressed the red button and spoke into it. “Note to self. Find and alter another timeline. Create SuperCorp a Cinderella Story. Modern age, no powers, maybe make them teenagers. Play the role of the teacher or principal or something.” He released the button and the recorder disappeared.
“SuperCorp?” Kara asked, causing Sean to laugh.
“Let’s just say it’s something that should have happened and so here I am. Making sure SuperCorp happens.”
Kara was still very confused.
“Ok, here’s what I’m thinking. Now if you wanted some grand gesture like spelling ‘Date Me?’ in fireworks or spell it in the sky with clouds, it’s a bit much for asking someone on a date. Shit, just ask Peter Parker what happened after he sent a love note to Gwen Stacey with his webs. If you don’t you, a short drop with a sudden stop. Anyways, if you were to take my suggestion, you could go on a walk with Lena. Tonight, walk around National City. Don't worry about the crime, I’ll take care of it. Walk her to the city tree, have a short heart to heart and then ask her on the date. Now that is a bit much for asking for a first date, but you know what, I say fuck it.”
Suddenly the waitress came back and set Kara’s mug down.
“Thanks, Amber.” Sean as he smiled at her.
The waitress, Amber, left and went back to taking care of orders.
“Got any questions?” Sean asked.
“Just one. Why is this so important to you?” Kara asked.
“I guess that’s the only one that matters. I’m centuries old. I’m pretty sure I’m close to a thousand years old. My job is to travel the Infiniteverse, find the truly evil, punish them. I don’t get a lot of time to do some other good. Sure I get rid of the bad guys, but I want to help people in other ways. And getting people together with the ones they truly love is one of my favorite things to do. Trust me, I’ve done you and Lena a few times.”
“Infiniteverse?”
Suddenly, a spot on Sean’s head started to glow yellow, and five different spots on his chest began to glow orange, red, green, purple, and blue. Then everything around them melted away, leaving them in space. Kara jumped at the sudden change, but then she looked around.
“Behold, the Infinteverse.” Sean said.
The sight before Kara could only be described with one word. Beautiful.
Then everything was reverted back to normal.
“What was that?”
“What I look at everyday.”
“Wait, how would I ask her out in front of the tree, there is no tree?”
“Don't worry about that. I'll take care of it. I'll make the one in New York look small. Actually, think of the tree at the end of the Polar Express. Hmmm. That gives me an idea.” He waved his hand and the cassette tape recorder reappeared in his hand and he pressed the red button. “Note to self, find and alter another timeline. Go to when everyone is a kid, get them on the Polar Express, Kara and Lena first meet there. Kara is still Kryptonian. This plays as core memory for future slash present Kara and Lena. Reunite and quickly realize slash remember who they are. Fall in love. Play the role of conductor.” The tape recorder disappeared.
“What?” Kara asked.
“Nothing for you to worry about. At least this universe you. Anywho, do you want a dress? I can get you one. Suit? No problem.”
“No, I got something.”
Sean smiled.
“You really jumped on asking the woman you love out.”
Kara laughed nervously.
“I don't know why.”
“Pretty sure that's a good thing. Anyways, you're about to be given the rest of the day off, with pay, you're welcome. Go home, find something to wear, ask Lena to go for a walk. Enjoy the beautiful sights of the night city decorated to the brim with Christmas lights, with some Hannakah and Kwanzaa decorations along with them. Talk the night away, follow the lights and you'll find the tree. Look at the star at the top and you'll know when to ask her. Once you ask her, take her to this address.”
Sean grabbed a napkin and pen and wrote the address.
“This will be a restaurant called Farmgate. Lena will love it. Just tell the hostess your name and the rest will be taken care of.”
“Farmgate?”
Sean just smiled and winked, then he was just gone.
“What in Rao?”
Amber came back at took Sean’s plate and mug and then looked at Kara, noticing her confused expression.
“He does that alot. Anyways, your bill has been paid for.”
“How?”
Amber just smiled and walked away.

True to his words, shortly after Kara left the cafe, she got a call from work and was given the rest of the day off with pay. So she went home and began planning, but first, she called someone to help her out.
Alex burst through the door with her gun out.
“What’s the emergency?!”
Kara came out from around the corner holding a few dresses.
“I don’t know what to wear.”
“You told me it was an emergency for clothing? Why?”
“I’m gonna ask Lena out, tonight.”
“Oh. I see. I’m gonna need a beer then.”
“Is me asking Lena out really that bad?”
“Yes.”’ Alex holstered her gun and found a bottle. “So, what’s your plan?”
“I’m gonna ask Lena for a walk tonight. We’ll explore National City, see all the lights, go to the city tree, and at the right moment, I’m gonna ask her out.”
“Kara, there is no city tree.”
Kara shrugged. “It’s hard to explain. But then I’m going to take her to this restaurant, Farmgate.”
Alex looked even more confused. So she pulled out her phone and looked something up.
“Kara, there is no restaurant called Farmgate in National City.”
“What? Did he lie to me?”
“Who?”
“This strange man, Sean Harper. He asked me to meet him for coffee today.”
“When did you meet him?”
“When he asked me for coffee.”
“Why the fuck did you join him?” Alex yelled.
“Because as he was leaving, he called me Supergirl. I couldn’t risk it, I had to join him.” Kara explained.
“Fuck.” Alex groaned as she put her head in her hand. “What did he want?”
“To help. He genuinely seemed like he wanted to help me ask out Lena.”
“Why?”
“No idea.”
“Wait, what cafe did you meet this guy at?”
“Amber’s. It’s down the street from CatCo.”
Alex went back to her phone.
“Kara, Amber’s doesn’t exist.”
“What? Yeah it does. I was there.”
“According to Google, there is no Amber’s. There’s no mention of Amber’s. Not even a notice that the place was bought.”
“How’s that possible?”
“I don’t know Kara. Are you sure you want to do this?”
“Yeah. I’ve waited too long to ask Lena out. I need to do it tonight, or risk someone else asking her.”
“And what about your duties as Supergirl?”
“He said not to worry about it.”
“Look, Kara, I don’t mean to be an ass about this, I just worry about you. You’re my sister and nothing about this seems like a good idea.”
“I know, I know. But, I- I don’t know. Everything says I shouldn’t listen to him, I also really want to ask Lena out. So what do I do?”
“Tell you what, you said you two are going for your walk tonight, right?”
“When I ask her and hopefully she says yes.”
“Great, this’ll give me plenty of time. I can gather some troops and we can take to the roofs. Each of us armed with a sniper, looking for anything to go wrong. I’ll bring J’onn, Nia, and Brainy along as the big guns. Just in case of anything going wrong or that this Sean Harper character is someone not to be trusted.”
“That’s a bit much for me to ask a girl out, isn’t it?”
“You’re my sister, no it’s not.”
Kara laughed. “So which dress?”
“The left one.”
Kara started to leap up and down in excitement. She tossed the chosen dress on her bed and the rest in her closet. She grabbed her phone and dialed Lena. After a few rings, Lena picked up.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Lena, hi, Lena, hi.”
“Hi to you too, Kara. What can I do for you?”
“Would you like to go for a walk around the city with me tonight? See the lights and all that.”
“Uh, yeah. I should be free.”
“Great, I’ll meet you at L-Corp when you get off.”
“See you then, Kara, hopefully I’ll be able to get off then.”
“Here’s to hoping.” Kara chuckled nervously. “See you tonight.”
/
Kara was wearing a heavy coat over her dress waiting outside L-Corp. She got there right on time. After a few minutes of waiting, Lena walked out. Kara could feel her heart skip several beats seeing Lena in her coat, well, just seeing her in general.
“Hi, Lena.”
“Hello, Kara.”
“Ready?”
“Of course. And hopefully nothing happens that calls for Supergirl.”
“I’ve been told that it will be taken care of.” Kara said.
“Ah, that sister of yours is something else.”
Kara decided not to tell her about the stranger but instead start walking.
“So how was work?” Kara asked.
“Actually really good. It was the strangest thing. Normally I would have to deal with all kinds of bullshit. Things going wrong, investors trying to buy L-Corp, and the other usual bullshit. None of it happened. Everything went right. No one tried to buy L-Corp. It was the easiest day ever.”
“Huh, strange.”
“What about you?”
“Well, this morning was normal, but after lunch, Andrea gave me the rest of the day off with pay.”
“That’s odd. Do you know why?”
“No.”
Then they turned the corner and the sight they saw was breathtaking.
“Woah. I’ve never seen the city this decorated before.” Kara said.
“It’s beautiful.” Lena said in ah.
So they continued their walk, both enjoying every second of it. Kara looked around and could see DEO agents on the rooftops. Kara chuckled but appreciated it. But as the strange man said, it wasn’t just Christmas lights, just mostly. There were a few houses with Hannakah and Kwanzaa decorations up as well. It was all beautiful, but not as beautiful as the thing they found at the end of their trail. A tree bigger than anything either of them has ever seen before.
“Oh my God. When did they put that up?”
“Today.” Kara answered.
“Today? That would have taken hours to put up and I haven’t heard a single word of this. Nothing. There’s no way they could have put it up today.”
“He really did it.” Kara whispered.
Her hand slowly moved closer to Lena’s, but the moment they touched, Lena took her hand.
“Kara, this was wonderful.”
Kara and Lena didn’t even react to the hand holding, they just looked up at the star on top of the tree. Then they saw something. A shooting star.
“No way. You know what that means. Make a wish.” Lena said as she turned back to Kara, but she was already looking at her. “Kara?”
“Lena, I do have a wish, a big one, but I can’t wish it upon a star, I need to make it happen on my own.”
“Kara? What’s going on?”
“Lena Luthor, will you go out with me? As in on a date. Just the two of us. I mean if you can’t I’ll try and understand. You know what, this was stupid. Just forget about it. I’m so-” Kara started to ramble but Lena put a finger to her lips, cutting her off.
“Kara, how about you let me answer first before you spiral.” The kryptonian groaned at Lena’s choice of words. “And my answer is yes, I would love to go out with you.”
“Really!”
“Of course, do you know how long I’ve been waiting for this?”
“Uh, I’m not sure.”
Lena laughed. “Ever since I told Jess to let you up whenever you show up.”
“Since then?!”
“Oh, you have no idea how much I wanted this to happen.”
“Awesome! And I know just the place to go!”
Kara grabbed her hand again and pulled her away.
“Oh you mean right now.” Lena said in shock.
Kara tugged her along and looked at the napkin with the address on it. It didn’t take long for them to make it and the restaurant was massive. Kara led her inside and went to the hostess.
“Name?” She asked.
“Kara Danvers.”
“Right this way.”
“You made a reservation?” Lena asked in disbelief.
“Sort of. It’s hard to explain.”
“Here you go.” The hostess gestured to a table.
Kara took off her coat and placed it on the back of her chair.
“Kara, you look beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
“If I knew we would be going here, I would have dressed nicer.” Lena said as she took her coat off, but underneath caused Kara’s jaw to drop. “What?”
“Lena, you look gorgeous.”
Lena squinted her eyes and then looked down. Whatever she was wearing at work, she wasn’t anymore. She had a beautiful dress on.
“I didn’t put this on. How the fuck?”
“I don’t know, but you look amazing.”
“This was the dress I was saving for when you finally asked me out. I just didn’t realize our first date would be 5 minutes after asking me.”
“You saved this dress for me?”
“Of course. I only save the best for you.” Lena smiled.
Kara blushed as she sat down. Then their waiter came by.
“Hello, my name is Sean, I’ll be your waiter and general entertainer for the evening. Do you know what you want to drink?”
Kara looked up at the name and it was the same guy.
“You!”
“Kara?” Lena asked.
“Good to see you again, Ms. Danvers. And it is a pleasure to meet you again, Ms. Luthor.”
“We haven’t met before.”
“In this timeline. But in others, we have. Anywho, I do believe you will enjoy the menu, Ms. Luthor. But drinks?”
“Uh, water for now.” Kara said.
“I’ll take an unsweet tea.”
“Coming right up.”
He quickly left, leaving them in peace.
“Who was that?”
“Ok, so-”
Kara explained the entire situation, leaving Lena stunned.
“So, he made everything tonight happen? Could he be responsible for my day and you getting off early?”
“I mean, I guess. Anyways, let’s find something to eat.”
Lena smiled before finally looking down at her menu and her smile instantly fell.
“Lena?”
“The menu. These are traditional Irish meals. I haven’t had any of this since I moved to America with Lional.” Tears started to stream down her face.
Just then Sean came back with the drinks.
“Alright, ladies, here are your drinks. One water and one tea. Now do you know what you want to eat or do you need another minute?” He asked.
“No. I know what I want.” Lena said, wiping away her tears. “I’ll have a Bangers and Mash.”
“And I’ll have a Full Irish Breakfast.” Kara said.
“Will do. Well, enjoy your meal.” Sean said as he gestured to the table.
Both women gave him a confused look until they looked down. There on the table was their meals.
“How-” Kara began as she looked up and saw he was gone. “What the?”
“Kara, who is that?” Lena laughed.
“I have-”
“Attention everyone.” Someone said, voice echoing through the restaurant. Kara and Lena looked over and saw that Sean not only was now on stage behind a mic, but was now wearing a completely different suit. He was dressed in an all black tux with a white bowtie. “But I would like to introduce our first act of the night. I’ll be on piano while someone special performs her song.”
Sean stepped aside and the woman from the Cafe, Amber, stepped up to the mic wearing a golden dress. She first hugged Sean before he sat behind the piano.
“Hi everyone. I hope everyone’s enjoying their meals. I want to dedicate this song to two lucky women who finally found love.” Amber began, looking directly at Kara and Lena. “This is Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.”
Kara and Lena’s hearts melted from the song.
“Who is this guy?” Lena asked again.
“I have no idea, but what’s weird, that woman, her name is Amber, she owns that café down the street from CatCo.”
“What café?”
“This place called Amber’s. What’s weird, Alex says it doesn’t exist.”
“Kara, that’s because it doesn’t, and I would say this place doesn’t exist, but here we are.”
“This has been a really weird day.” Kara laughed.
“But I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” Lena reached over and grabbed her hand.
Kara could feel her heart swell. Today may have been weird, but she wouldn’t trade it for anything either.
Then Amber’s song came to an end and the entire restaurant erupted into applause.
“Thank you everyone!” Amber said before coming down from the stage and walked over to the ladies. “I hope you two enjoyed the song.”
“We did, it was lovely.” Lena smiled.
“I thought you worked at the café down the street from CatCo.”
“Oh I do, but I also do a gig here. For the time being at least.”
Just then Sean came running over to Amber and hugged her.
“Way to go, babygirl!” He yelled.
“DAD! Stop!”
“DAD!?” Lena and Kara yelled together.
“Yeah, who else? You haven’t even met my half-sister yet.” Sean said.
“There’s more of you?”
Sean just laughed.
“Nah, just Amber here. My sister has power, but not like mine.”
“Why do all of this?” Kara asked.
“Because, I believe in love. And you two were taking way too fucking long so I just sped up the process.” He explained.
“That kind of sounds like Music Meister.” Kara commented.
“Oh yeah, he’s a friend.”
“You from the same place?”
“No, but we’ve met before, a few times even. Anyways, you two enjoy your meal, I’ve got another gig to do.” Sean said.
Amber waved to them and they walked to the stage. But they passed behind someone and once they passed, Amber disappeared. Sean got on stage, the moment his foot touched the stage, it was filled with an orchestra. Sean grabbed a conductor’s stick and tapped his stand, which appeared out of nowhere. The orchestra got ready and Sean turned to the audience.
“Alright. Everyone, we would like to play one more song, this’ll be a bit more ironic.”
He turned back and began conducting.
The rest of dinner was wonderful. They continued to talk and just enjoyed each other’s company. They ended up staying a little extra for some dessert.
Once the song was over, Sean came back to them.
“Hope you two enjoyed your meal and the company, and the slight push, now don’t worry about the bill, it’s on the house.”
“Thank you.” Kara said.
“Of course. Now your car is right outside. Enjoy your night.”
Kara got up from the table and helped Lena from her seat.
“Wow, what a gentleman.”
They got their coats on and made their way back outside. Once outside, Lena’s car was waiting for them and her driver by the door. They walked to the door but before getting into it, Kara stopped Lena.
“Kara? What is it?”
“There’s just one more thing I wanted to do tonight.” Kara leaned forward and kissed Lena, at first Lena was shocked, but then she leaned into it. They just stood there for what felt like centuries. After they pulled apart, they kept their foreheads together.
“That was great.”
“It was perfect, darling. Now, let’s get out of here.”
The drive home was nice. They didn’t speak a word, but they never broke physical contact. Kara would either look out the window or look at Lena. Once they made it to Lena’s home, Kara stayed the night, one wonderful night.
/
The next day, neither of them had to work, it was the weekend, so they decided to take another walk around the city. But they quickly noticed something, Amber’s nor Farmgate were anywhere to be found. The decorations and the tree remained, but those two places were gone. It was the strangest thing, but honestly, Kara didn’t care. She finally got the girl she’s been dreaming of since they met.
