“Love, I feel like you’ve already done so much for me,” Henry murmurs, running his fingers through Alex’s curls as the morning sun shines through the blinds.
“We’ve only done half my list, baby,” Alex chuckles softly. “Today is gonna be fun, and we don’t even have to leave the house. I got everything we needed on the way home from class yesterday. So we can technically be lazy today. I can make fajitas for lunch.”
“Mhmm, you know I love your fajitas.” Henry kisses Alex’s forehead. “You’re so beautiful, you know that?”
“Shush,” Alex whispers. He hides his face against Henry’s bare chest. “Do you want to do the activity before lunch or after?”
Henry smirks. “After. I have my own activities I’d like to do before lunch.”
“Oh-” Alex trails off into a moan when he feels Henry’s mouth on his neck.
-
Two rounds and one shower later, Alex finds himself in the kitchen in front of the coffee pot while Henry toasts them a couple of bagels. They’re both wearing one of Henry’s t-shirts, their own sweats low on their hips.
“So, do I get to know what today’s activity is before we do it?” Henry hums quietly.
“I guess so,” Alex giggles. “We’re doing gingerbread houses- but not the boring ones. I picked up a few fun ones, plus extra frosting and candy to decorate.”
Henry’s eyes light up. “I haven’t made a gingerbread house since I was like seven,” he grins. “What kind have you gotten for us today?”
“Well, one of them is an actual train, and one is oreo flavored. I’m so excited, me and June usually do these every year.”
“Oh, love, if you want to do these with your sister, I won’t mind-”
“No, Hen, it’s fine. We can get together with June and Nora to make more another day. Today is about us,” Alex assures him. “June understands. She helped me build the list, babe.”
“As long as you’re sure,” Henry murmurs.
Alex leans up to kiss Henry’s cheek. “After lunch, we’ll spend as much time as we need making all of them. We have plenty of frosting and candy. We’ll probably have extra, honestly. You can take it to the shelter for the kids or something.”
“I might see about getting gingerbread house supplies for the kids,” Henry smiles softly. “We don’t have a ton of kids with us right now, but I bet we could get enough kits between a few stores. Maybe June and Nora can help us find some, too.”
“Oh, I’m sure they’d love that,” Alex grins. “You know they love helping at the shelter. That would be such a fun event for all the children. It could be part of their Christmas party.”
“I’ll speak to Percy about it. Thank you, sweetheart.”
They relax on the couch together once their breakfast is done, Elf playing on the TV. Alex finds the energy to cook lunch a little after twelve. He gets distracted several times, Henry’s arms wrapped around his waist, the fajita veggies almost burning when Henry starts kissing over the marks he made earlier.
Their food goes cold while Alex is bent over the counter.
“I’m making lists for every goddamn holiday if this is the response I get for it,” Alex laughs softly, helping Henry clean up the kitchen once they’ve eaten. “Although I am sorry about cold fajitas for lunch.”
“I’d eat every meal cold if that’s the reason,” Henry winks. “I just love you so much, I can’t help myself around you. Especially when you’re doing all these things for me.”
“I love you, too, baby.” Alex kisses Henry’s cheek. “Go get my speaker from the room, I’ll set up all of the supplies in here.”
Alex grabs everything from the pantry. He lines up the different gingerbread kits across one side of the table. Under the kits, he lays out all the different types of frosting, and pours the candy into little bowls to make it easier for them. He sneaks a few pieces of candy before Henry comes back.
“Okay, what playlist- Christ, Alex, this is so much,” Henry laughs softly. “We’re going to have gingerbread for days.”
“I told you, I wanted options,” Alex giggles. “Whichever ones we don’t open will go to the shelter. It’s fine, babe. What should we start with first?”
“I want to do the oreo one, because I bet it tastes delicious, but the train looks fun, and- it’s that fucking Millenium Falcon?”
“Was wondering when you’d notice that,” Alex grins. “Wanna start with that one?”
“Absolutely!”
It takes them hours to finish the three they picked. They start with the Millenium Falcon, laughing as they try to make the pieces stick together with the frosting. They use mostly frosting to decorate the top of that, adding a few M&Ms around the top. Henry even creates a soldier with a teddy graham.
From there, they move onto the Oreo house. It’s a little easier, except the roof panels keep sliding down. They add more frosting, and Alex adds a little person outside the house. Henry keeps having to dodge Alex trying to put frosting on his face.
“I’ll lick it off, I promise!” Alex laughs.
“That’s what I’m worried about, you menace,” Henry huffs. “Because then it’ll lead to other stuff and our creations will be ruined!”
They save the train for last. It’s not as hard as they expected, but it’s still a little difficult. Once they get the train cars built, they fill them with various candy and then decorate the sides.
All-in-all, Henry is fairly sure the kids at the shelter could do a much better job. They’re not fancy, even in the slightest bit, but Henry can’t keep the grin off his face.
“I’m proud of us,” Henry murmurs, leaning into Alex’s side after they’ve washed their hands. “We’re going to have stomach aches from how many sweets we’re going to consume over the next few days, but I loved this. I had so much fun, Alex.”
“So did I, sweetheart,” Alex murmurs, kissing Henry’s cheek. “Let’s get pictures of them and then we can decide what to do for dinner.”
Henry pulls his phone out to snap a few photos of each. He wastes no time in getting them posted to instagram.
