“Does it hurt anywhere?”
Rover shook his head and tried to stand up, “no.”
Scar silently inspected his friend before he stood up, it seems like both of them were lucky enough to survive with minimal injuries.
Both started to look around once they eased their minds, Rover started to dig around for any supplies they could use, Scar was right behind him to help.
It could be food, medicine or even clothes so they can bandage themselves up.
Slowly they heard the sounds of other people, it seemed like the initial shock wore off and now they started to gather around to discuss what happened.
Scar wanted to join in at first, maybe they could do better with the presence of a group. But looking at his friend he decided to not say anything.
The air was thick with dirt and the last rays of sunset slowly faded away, the entire area was silent but the sounds of people talking were still so faint.
Rover and Scar sat on a boulder, silently eating some cookies they managed to find.
“What do you think happened?”
Scar looked up as his friend suddenly asked.
He doesn't know what to say,
And just like that, the night passed with silence.
Yet both of them and everyone else failed to notice the sounds coming from different places, it was like something was below them.
Scar held a bag over his shoulder, containing all their supplies they managed to find so far, both friends walked in the same direction as other survivors. The military made a base with whatever was left.
The sounds of sirens and men speaking in loud speakers to attract people became louder with each step they made. Soon they saw a stream of tents, doctors rushing in patients inside to take care of them and soldiers helping the survivors inside.
They saw helicopters circling around and fully armored soldiers guarding the area.
The other survivors looked like they finally found hope, some still had no expression with the numbness in their hearts, some rushed to make calls using the military phones to see if anyone they knew overseas might've survived.
A nurse saw both the teenagers and made them sit down to see for injuries. She sent Rover outside since he was better off compared to his friend. Scar on the other hand was forced to stay inside, by the time he was out his whole face was covered in bandages.
That wasn't surprising and Scar was lucky his injuries didn't get infected, but watching Rover struggle to hold his laugh really ticked him off.
“Ha ha, laugh all you want.” He huffed and whacked his friend's head.
“The earthquake didn't just hit us, I heard every single place on the planet was shaking so hard.”
“You know, we're lucky since the quake didn't trigger a tsunami..”
“That's true, our city isn't much elevated from sea level. An earthquake that strong would've drowned everyone by now.”
The earthquake destroyed the airports and the port, the people who were already in planes were lucky they didn't get affected by the quake but that didn't last long when there were no roads or areas for them to land at.
A lot of people were talking around them, right now both of them were standing with everyone else, the military were giving out rations and clean clothes so the line was long, but no one was tired.
They're finally filled with hope, hope that they can rebuild their homes once again.
Despite the disaster that happened recently, everyone felt safe as if this was the first time in years. Rover and Scar weren't an exception either, they too could finally relax.
They saw the bodies of people littered around, they saw blood and burning buildings everywhere, they saw places that they visited before now in ruins or completely disappear in rubble.
It all felt like a nightmare.
Help me.. my legs…
D-did anyone see my family? My kids!? They must be around here.
Water.. please someone..
The sounds still echoed in their heads, the cries and pain and the sounds of last breaths.
But right now, for this one night, they could rest feeling safe. They had food in their bellies, clean clothes, medicine for their tired bodies and a place to rest.
Right now, that alone felt so precious.
Scar woke up hearing shouts, he made his way to see what's going on. And then he saw what everyone was looking at.
It's the bodies of soldiers, something that tears them apart into pieces.
The military isn't questioning the survivors assuming they're the one who did this, because the answer seemed too obvious.
This was no work of a human.
[The second event began with the appearance of the hostiles.]
[Record #2: We first saw it when we found torn up bodies. We assumed it's some wild animal who lost its way after the quake, but then we found out what actually caused it.
We honestly don't know where they came from, the most popular guess and theory is that they came from underground, the earthquake released fissures that freed these things.
These are quick and strong, but they're not unkillable.]
