Work Text:
You stared at the clock and sighed.
It was one of those nights.
Usually you would watch random videos or do something productive to get rid of this feeling. It just wasn’t doing it for you this time. You were glad there were still people hanging around online thanks to time zones.
The silence around your place was deafening. It didn’t help that you lived alone. Most of the time you were absolutely fine - being with other people for long periods of time exhausted you. However that other small percentage of the time you hated wallowing up in your own little head.
The way the saying goes - your mind is your own worst enemy.
It was way too real for you sometimes.
You hated these random bouts of anxiety welling up within you. The music playing on your headphones did little to calm your nerves. Your own feet tapping against the floor antsy seemed louder than usual.
Even the beat of your heart thumped loudly and wildly in your ears like drums announcing your every insecurity inside you.
Crap.
You were getting ahead of yourself. The amount of self-deprivation you had was starting to peek itself out.
“Calm down.” You hissed at your beating heart even though you knew it was easier said than done.
Pep talks weren’t your specialty.
God if only your mind would shut up about every little thing about yourself.
You tried watching even more videos - the sight of purring kittens would usually bring you peace. The purring only made things a little more worse as you thought of your thumping heart.
A message popped up on the screen with a ding suddenly bringing you out of those thoughts. The sender made your eyes widen and your heart skyrocketing for other reasons.
KS1025 >> What are you still doing up at this hour?
You gazed at the clock once more: 3AM.
Yikes.
It was natural for him to be awake at this hour, normally you’d be knocked out by now. He knew this especially with how hard you tried to stay up with him on occasion.
Maybe you should have changed your status to invisible.
You shook your head. He had his ways of knowing when you’d be awake, it wouldn’t have mattered anyway.
>> Nothing, just got a little sidetracked… I’ll sleep soon.
KS1025 >> Right see to it that you do. Go to bed.
You rolled your eyes, chuckling a little. It eased you somewhat hearing from him. You wondered when was the last time he messaged you. Far too long.
>> Fine fine. I’m turning it off.
KS1025 >> Sleep well.
Closing the lid of your laptop you stretched before moving towards your bed. Taking a sip from your water bottle you tried to settle under the comfy sheets of your bed. Dimming the lights, you tried to soothe yourself to sleep. You were careful not to completely shut it off in worry of making your anxiety worse.
Taking a deep breath, you tried counting sheep closing your eyes as you pictured the cute little animals resembling cotton balls.
Your hands clutched onto your blanket as your brows furrowed.
One sheep. Two sheep. Three sheep.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
The sound of typing nearby slowly roused you from slumber. Somehow you managed to sleep. What a feat. Though who was typing? You let out a small grumble, a hand holding one of your own rubbed circles along it.
“Apologies, I’m being too loud aren’t I?”
The typing stopped. Your eyes slowly opened. Cobalt eyes staring down at you with the light of a laptop screen still lit up.
You let out a defeated sigh. Why was he here? Didn’t you tell him you’d find a way to sleep? It was the god awful hours of night or was it morning now?
“What are you doing here?” You groaned.
The other closed the lid of his laptop before turning his full attention to you. “Making sure you were actually sleeping.”
You sighed. “You didn’t have to do that… I was sleeping just fine…”
The brunet scoffed. “Oh really?” He rolled his eyes at your answer. “You were clutching onto your blanket so tightly I had to rub your hand just to get you to relax and let go. I had a feeling something was bothering you.”
“It’s nothing new…”
“Just one of those nights.” He finished. “Yes, I understand. All too well. I’m not leaving you alone right now.”
You frowned. “It’ll be fine, Seto. Leave me be, I’ll be able to sleep… eventually.”
He clicked his tongue, putting the laptop aside before shrugging off his shirt without care. Your eyes widened as you turned to glance away, your cheeks warming up at the thought of him being shirtless in front of you.
“Relax, I don’t bite.” The brunet teased amused at your bashful nature. “Move over.”
“You should go back to the mansion…” You countered back, however the man only grunted back nudging you to scoot. “My bed isn’t as big as yours.”
A grumble. “Don’t care, I’ll make us fit.”
You knew he wouldn’t stop now. He was persistent whenever he needed to be. It’s what made him successful in his endeavors. You gave in and scooted over to accommodate him as you felt the new weight against your bed. “Let me know if I should move more I–” His arms reached over and tugged you over to his chest, a muffled yelp escaping your lips.
“It’ll do.” The man huffed as he shifted to place a hand on your back to start rubbing it. He could feel how tense you were. “You need to relax.”
You closed your eyes and sighed. “You’re one to talk mister.”
“Well this isn’t about me this time, now is it?” He snarked, heaving a sigh himself as he continued to rub your back. “Settle down, I already used your phone to call in sick. You and I both know you have enough hours to use.”
You hummed. “...Right.”
“Naturally I did the same…” You could hear his heart thumping in your position against him, your body starting to relax against him. Leave it to him to find a way to settle you. Though you knew your tired body needed the assurance. “I’ll order food for us when we wake up, don't worry about cooking.”
“...Thanks…” You mumbled quietly. Normally you would cook for him if he ever visited your home, but he knew you needed the rest
“Let’s get some sleep.”
You took a deep breath once more, it was easier to block out the white noise in your head. You focused on the beat of his heart knowing you weren’t alone. His body heat surrounded you and his finger soothing to the touch. Your prickling senses dulled into soft cotton.
Finally, you knew peace.
You could at last fall asleep without worry.
