Considering it had rained the night before in Emerald City, and considering the temperature was now close to freezing, patches of ice had popped up, but that didn’t stop Shadow the Hedgehog from heading over to Amy Rose’s house. However, today wasn’t necessarily a pleasure visit, for it was the one-year anniversary of the death of her mom Petunia. Being the kind of boyfriend he was, he just wanted to do something to make her feel better considering that in some ways, Petunia helped keep the Rose family in order. Even if Amy didn’t have the best relationship with her, she still loved her nevertheless. That aside, seeing as how Amy and her father Douglas were home, Shadow parked his black 1970 Trans Am on the curb and headed up to Amy’s front door, carrying a large brown paper bag, knocking once he got to the door.
“Coming!”
Soon enough, Amy answered the door, but without her usual bright smile on her face.
“Hey Shadow.”
Shadow nodded. “Hi Amy. I know today is the one-year anniversary of your mom’s death, and I realize that pretty much nothing I say or do can completely erase the hurt that you’ve experienced since that day. However, I still love you very much, and I care about your feelings, so if it means anything to you, I stopped by that French fry place you like and ordered as many fries as I could.” He presented the bag to her.
Amy’s smile came back in a big way. “OH MY DAMN CHERRY BLOSSOMS!* Shadow, thank you SO MUCH!”
Amy gave Shadow a big hug and kiss, which he gladly returned. Even if it wasn’t under the happiest of circumstances, it meant so much to him that he could be there for her in a time of need. Once they let go, Amy took the bag of fries from him.
“Come inside, Shadow!”
Amy led Shadow in the house. In the living room, there was a display with candles lit, plus a framed photo of Amy with Douglas and Petunia. Douglas himself was sitting on the couch.
“Hello there, Mr. Rose.”
Douglas got up from the couch. “Hi there, Shadow. Oh, and call me ‘Douglas’, please. What brings you over here?”
“I know today is the anniversary of Amy’s mom’s death, so I brought her a big bag of French fries to make her feel better. Since she speaks so highly of you, I also brought something for you as well.”
Douglas smiled. “Thank you very much, Shadow. I didn’t always have the best relationship with Petunia, but she was the love of my life, nevertheless, and without her, I never would’ve had my wonderful little girl Amy.”
Amy giggled. “Love you too, Daddy!”
Shadow nodded. “You’re welcome. Here.”
Shadow gave Douglas a vase with a dozen white roses, which caused Douglas to gasp.
“Shadow, that’s very thoughtful of you! Thank you again!”
Shadow smiled. “You’re welcome, Douglas. An old friend of mine told me to give everyone on this planet a chance to be happy, and no one matters more to me than Amy.” He paused. “Well…no one can replace Rouge, but still…”
Amy laughed. “Shadow, I don’t expect to replace Rouge! As long as I’m your one and only Rose, that’s what matters to me!”
“Of course, always.”
Shadow gave Amy another hug, and once they broke away, she proceeded to munch on her fries before they got cold.
