“Why can’t you just let me go?” you asked Kenma, keeping your tone even despite the frustration bubbling beneath the surface.
He didn’t reply, his sharp eyes flicking toward you in a glare before gesturing for silence. “Shut up,” he muttered, barely audible, and turned back to his screen. His reputation was on the line, and he wasn’t about to risk it for you.
You sighed, sinking further into the corner of the room. For the past few days, you’d done everything possible to keep your distance: avoiding eye contact, brushing off their attempts at interaction, and tucking yourself into whatever dark corners you could find. But now, the power imbalance worsened, leaving you feeling more trapped than ever.
The door clicked and a figure came in: Kuroo. His presence brought a confusing mix of unease and faint relief. While he wasn’t someone you could trust, he was predictable, you knew what he wanted from you, unlike Kenma who would probably toss you away without a second thought. That alone made him a small comfort compared to the erratic behavior of the gamer sitting across the room.
“Let’s go prepare dinner Y/N,” Kuroo said with a sly grin, extending a hand toward you. His tone made your skin crawl, but you took his hand anyway, knowing refusion wasn’t really an option, it never is.
Kuroo dragged you into the kitchen and placed you on top of the counter. You only observed him as he was grabbing the ingredients and supplies.
Being trapped in the house was awful. You had lost all your connections, sense of self-worth and freedom. Days trapped in the house, you would spend trying to find entertainment and perhaps maybe a way to escape. Both of them have been wary of you, watching your every move. They’d make sure that you never took too long in the bathroom and definitely made sure to never let you near the front door. They always kept it locked, unlocking it only to let them in or out.
“Y/N, can you get the milk from the fridge?” Kuroo’s voice spoke up,
With no other choice, you got up and grabbed it for him.
“You’ve been awfully nice these past few days,” Kuroo says, with a hint of satisfaction. “No kicking, screaming, crying.”
You’ve been trying to win them over after realizing if you behaved well enough, there might just be some hope left for you. “Yeah I guess…” you muttered.
“Alright, we just need to let this cool down and we can eat,” he says to himself, and maybe to you too.
Dinner with the pair was always awkward, Kenma never bothered to talk to start a conversation, attention fixed onto his phone or tablet. On the other hand, Kuroo always tried to create some sort of conversation, which kind of annoyed Kenma sometimes. You never even knew or got the slightest hint of what Kenma’s true intention was. The thought lingered in your mind for a while before Kuroo’s voice snapped you out from your thoughts.
“Y/N?”
“Huh? Yeah?” you responded, stuttering.
“You okay?” he asked with a worrying tone.
“Yeah… Can I ask something though?” you answered.
Both the two immediately snapped their gazes to you, wondering what you might ask. You were full of surprises since your arrival, sometimes acting cranky but then sometimes you’d be so sweet to them.
“Yeah, what is it?” the black haired man responded, giving you the signal to ask your question.
“Do you think…” you hesitated for a second, rethinking if your question was worth their time. “Uh… do you think I could get… a phone?”
The room went silent. The pair just glared at you from the other side of the table, not responding at all to your question.
“Why do you need one?” Kenma finally spoke up.
You thought for a second and eventually you answered,“I’ve been here for a long time and I don’t have much entertainment…”.
Kuroo still hasn’t said anything. It was kind of unnerving. Your mind was suddenly put on alert and now you felt like you were walking on eggshells with them. The question was quite risky, especially when you haven’t earned their full trust.
It felt like you were standing on the edge of a cliff, and the more the silence stretched on, the closer you felt to falling. The awkwardness was almost suffocating, sort of hindering your breath. Your jaw clenched and your eyes wandered elsewhere, maybe down to your plate instead of meeting their gaze.
‘They’d never even let you touch any of their devices, so why would they let you have one of your own?’ thinking to yourself, you were so stupid. You then continued eating, as if nothing had ever happened. Finally getting up to place your empty plate in the dishwasher. After that, you walked past them and straight into your room.
Crashing onto the bed, you chose to sleep rather than face the possibility of ever talking to them again.
—
It was morning, new day, new you. This was so stupid, how much longer did you have to act like everything was okay until they fully trusted you. God, you didn’t even know how long you stayed in the wretched house. The four walls surrounding you only made the feeling worse, knowing you couldn’t go past it at all. They kept the windows in your room locked with a key. You didn’t know who held the key but you know they must’ve kept it somewhere in the house.
Looking out your window, you could only think of what other things you could be doing instead of trying to please the two random men who kidnapped you. They always called it ‘saving’ you and other things but one thing it never was, was kidnapping. They claimed that life with them was far better than the one you had previously.
You heard shuffling from behind the door, there it was. Your door was always kept locked during the nights, trapping you in an even more enclosed space. Then, the door opened.
“G’morning, how’re you feeling today?” the spiky-haired man asked. He was fully dressed with long gray pants and his usual buttoned up shirt. You couldn’t deny that he was an attractive guy but you’d never say it out loud.
“It’s good…” you whispered softly.
“Oh right, the thing yesterday. We’ve been talking about the thing yesterday and we decided to let you have it,” Kuroo said.
Shock ran through your body and your body froze. You gave him a grateful stare and thanked him while jumping up and down.
“Though, we will be monitoring it.” he announced.
Of course he did. You weren’t too shocked by that but your mission was technically a success. Now you can move on to the next step.
Over the course of a week, you had started warming up to them and stopped treating them like dirt. They soon realized this and everything seemed like it was going well.
It was one day that one of them slipped up. Kenma had accidentally placed the house keys on the dining table instead of the usual spot. It was finally in your reach and you secretly grabbed the keys while he wasn’t aware. Tonight might finally be the night you’ll be free.
It was 3am. The night outside was dark and you were sure both of them were asleep. After all, Kuroo’s got a job and Kenma’s probably asleep. The house was quiet and all you could hear was the sounds of the night. Sneakily, you used the keys to unlock your door and go out into the hallway. Slowly, you crept your way to the front door and put the key into the lock.
Weirdly, the key wasn’t turning and the door was still locked. You were sure these were the house keys. Fuck. Did you misunderstand?
Suddenly, you heard footsteps and hid behind the couch of the living room. Then the light turned on and illuminated the room. You carefully poked your head over the couch and saw Kenma looking for something. He was shuffling in the living room, looking through the tables, chairs, desks. He was most likely looking for his key.
“Where the fuck is it,” he muttered to himself, hand rubbing the back of his head.
You forgot how bad he was at having an actual sleep schedule. Then, a ringing sound came through. Hurriedly, you declined the call but it was too late. He’d already spotted you.
“Eh, Y/N?” he questioned, peeking behind the couch.
Your breath hitched and your body went into survival mode. You grabbed the vase near you and hit him with it. It shattered into pieces as soon as it came into contact with him. You jerked off the ground and dashed for the door. Trying the keys again, the door this time unlocked and you ran out into the streets. Waving your hands like a maniac, you waved at the car to come over.
The car moved over to you and the driver rolled down his window, only to reveal the same familiar face of your kidnapper - Kuroo.
“You shouldn’t be that dumb y’know,” he said before you were knocked out from the force behind you.
