Work Text:
"You're back early," Morgie called to Hades from where he was sitting on his bed with a book out.
"Uh yeah, we got into a fight," He replied, closing the door behind him.
"Shit, she broke up with you again?"
"Well how many times has it been now, seven?"
"You memorizing my love life Le Fey?"
"We live together so kinda had to. I really don't want to walk into a make out session and I don't think you want to be interrupted."
"Got a point there." Hades said, slumping on to his bed.
"Hey, you good dude? You seem a little down. You know you'll get back together sometime this week right?" Morgie had started to memorize his friends' dating pattern, it's not like it was hard to do. They have been going through it for the past couple months.
"Nothing, it's just," Hades sighed, turning to his roommate. "I'm getting tired of this breaking up and getting back together thing man. I mean is it really worth it? If we were meant to be together wouldn't we stay that way? Sorry, I'm bothering you with this, it's not like you care."
"You're my friend, why wouldn't I care?" Morgir questioned. "I know I might not be the most experienced in this this subject, but if you are feeling this way maybe you shouldn't get back together this time."
"I still care about her, it's not like I was the one yo call things off."
"You can still care about someone even if you aren't together. Maybe you weren't meant to be together forever and that's ok. You still got to be with her for a while, dude. And who says you can't still be friends after this. We are all in the same game you know."
"When did you get so wise, Mr. I haven't dated anybody."
"Just cause I haven't dated anyone doesn't mean I haven't been into people."
I guess. You into anyone at the moment?" Hades asked not wanting to focus on his love life for any longer.
"Been into this guy for a bit but I don't think he'd like me back."
"Don't sell yourself so short Morgs, you're a great guy anyone would be lucky to date you."
"Thanks bro, but now would not be the best time to together, trust me."
"Fine, but if you ever want help with him, you can ask me."
"I will be sure to let you know if I ever need the help. Now I need to finish this history essay before I fail the class."
In reality Morgie didn't want to talk about his crush to Hades cause it was him he had a crush on. He was used to the on and off ness of Hades' relationship but never thought he was going to not get back together with Maleficent. They were THE VK power couple, no one fucked with them. He thought the two of them would be together forever and he was ok with the guy he liked being in love with someone else. (Or so he told himself.)
But actually having a chance to ask the guy out? That was terrifying. Morgie has liked people in the past but never the same way he felt for Hades. They weren't only friends but roommates, so it's not like he could avoid the dude. Secondly, the feels never disappeared after a while like usual. Instead they persisted, leaving him guessing on how the other felt.
Morgie thought about all of this while writing, making him take longer to finish. He didn't bother to proof read and decided to take a shower before bed.
The whole time Hades laid there on his bed, scrolling through his phone but not paying attention. The god always felt weird talking about his feelings, especially to Morgie. He didn't know why but whenever he started talking about deep stuff with him he wanted to tell him all the great things he thought about the dude. Like how he was super smart even though nobody notices, or how his hair never got in the way of his face, and how he cares so much but tries to hide it.
He didn't know where these feelings came from. Or maybe he did and just didn't want to continue to think about it. It's not like it mattered the dude has a crush on some other guy anyways. He decided to just sleep off the day and not worry about anything till tomorrow.
_____
The next day turned out to be a snow day. Classes were cancelled and the students were playing outside or having a relaxing day in. The VKs decided they were going to hang out in Uliana's room, plotting and enjoying their day off.
Hook was testing out some new pickup lines on Maleficent, they seemed to get worse the more he went on, Uli was trying out a new potion to mess with Bridget some more, while Morgie was looking through a spell book his mom gave him to see what spells he wanted to test.
He was getting cold, being it was freezing out and truth be told Uliana's dorm has some of the worst heating in the school. Hades was sitting next to him figuring out what to sketch.
Hades looked up and saw that the guy's teeth were clattering. "Yo, you good buddy?"
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a little chilly."
"Dude you look like you are going to shake the table with how much you are shivering," The god said to him, giving an all knowing look. "Here take this." He said pulling off his sweater and handing it to him.
"What, no, I can't possibly take this. I'm not even that cold." He said pushing the knit garment away.
"Yes you are. Come on I'll be fine, I insist." He pushed the sweater back to him.
Morgie gave in, he knew that arguing over this wasn't going to work and it was easier to take the clothing. In reality he was super cold, 'why must she force us to have meetings in her room during the winter, we all know she has a broken rotator' the snake thought while putting on the sweater.
It was big on him, not by much but enough where it was noticeable. They had to push the sleeves up to continue flipping the pages of the book. He looked up to see that Hades was focusing on his sketch, he looked fine and not cold. With that being settled Morgie returned to his book and relaxed into the warm sweater.
_____
Hades was back in their dorm and staring at what he drew today. They were all of Morgie. Him in his sweater, him huddled on the chair, him looking at the snow falling to the grow, even one of him yawning. It was all Morgie Morgie Morgie.
Hades had drawn people he was with all the time but it didn't feel weird then, as it does now. Usually it was Maleficent he had a ton of sketches of and that made sense but this was different. The ones of Morgie felt more natural than the ones of Mal. Hell he has drawn all of his friends before and it wasn't different but why was it now?
Maybe it was the fact he was wearing his clothes or that he wasn't posing to be drawn and was unaware he was. Maybe it was just that Hades was noticing different feelings towards Morgie, not that he was going to or wanted to acknowledge them.
When he heard a knock on the door he opened it thinking it would be his roommate who left his keys inside again, but it wasn't. Instead it was his ex. "Oh hey Mal, what brings you here?"
She shoved past him and into the room. "What am I doing what about you? You have bearable looked at me all day. You didn't even come to talk to me."
"Ok and?"
"And? And!? This is not how this goes, I break up with you we have a day or two looking at each other from across the room and then we get back together again." She explained.
"What if I don't want that?"
"I don't understand?"
"What if I don't want to get back together this time, ok? I am done with this on and off again stuff. If you actually wanted to have a good relationship with me you wouldn't break up every time we have a fight," He stated, feeling good to get this off his chest. "That isn't how it should be. That isn't how I want it to be. I should be with someone who doesn't quit when we disagree instead of working things out. So unless you can do that, I can't go back to dating you."
Her face fell when he said this, turning to look away from him. "You know I did like getting to be with you. I guess I am just not fit to have to deal with the conflict. You need stability and I get that but that is not something I can offer you. So I guess we are done, for good."
Hades moved towards her, "I'm sorry," He said and went to say more but was cut off.
"No, I am sorry." She faced back up to look at him. "I can't be the one you give that to you, but I hope you find someone who can."
"That means a lot to me. I hope you can find someone that makes you happy too."
She pulled his face down to kiss him for one last time. It was a short kiss but one filled with sorrow instead of joy.
As they were kissing the door opened and Morgie stepped in seeing the two occupants lips touching.
He stared at them till they pulled away and Mal saw him.
"Hey, Morgie." She said sheepishly.
Hades turned at that and saw him. He froze he was hit with another block of emotion but wasn't sure why.
"Guess you got back together anyway." The snake said before rushing off.
"Shit, Morgs, wait," Hades called after him.
Maleficent looked at him in confusion and then the realization hit. "I should go," She started walking to the door. "I hope it works out for you, I really do." With that she went to the stairs and walked back to her room.
_____
'God, I am so stupid,' Morgie thought to himself, sitting outside on a bench, 'of course he would get back with her. Why wouldn't he'. He was sulking, he knew he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up but he did and it sucked. He just wanted this crush to go away, it would make this life ten times easier. But he knew it wouldn't and the only thing he could do is be happy for him no matter how much it hurt.
Morgie hastily whiped his tears when he heard someone walking up.
"Morgie," said a voice behind him, a voice he recognized.
"Oh, hey Hades. Didn't see you there." He turned to face him, standing up.
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah, of course, why wouldn't I be?"
"You don't seem to be. You don't have to lie to me, I just want you alright."
"Can you stop looking at me like that? Fine, you got me. I feel... I feel... I am not sure what I feel but happy isn't it."
"Sorry, I understand that. Maybe we can start with what is making you feel?"
"You mostly, I just... just feel betrayed that you said you weren't getting back together with her and then I see you kiss like nothing is different."
"Oh that. Before you walked in she came to confront me on why I wasn't acting like I usually would after a breakup. I told her I didn't want to get back together again and we talked it out. The kiss was more of a kiss goodbye to what was then one of making up."
"Really?" Morgie felt relieved to be hearing this. It wasn't Hades still being in love with her it was a sorrow ending to their romance.
"Yes. I didn't know this affected you this much. I think I take for granted how much you care about me."
"I guess you do."
"Thank you Morgie you are the best friend a guy can ask for." Hades said, wrapping the boy up in a hug.
Morgie hugged back and smiled sadly. "I'm just glad the guy I like turned out to not be getting back with his ex." He pulled away from the hug. Not exactly possessing what he said.
Hades stared at him, "Uh, what."
The snake's eyes widened just realizing what he uttered. "Shit did I just say that? Uh, just don't pay attention to that, just forget about it."
"Dude, you just confessed I'm the guy you have a crush on, not going to forget that."
"Shit man, and you just went through a breakup too. Oh I am the worst person in the world. If you don't want to be roommates any more I understand. I can go room with Hook, I'm sure he won't mind." The man was rambling.
"Woh woh woh, slow down there buddy. I am not going to force you to move out," He said putting his hands on the other's shoulders. "Secondly, I had no idea you felt this way."
Morgie just stood there not sure how to respond.
Hades thought about all the time he had spent with Morgie and what he had felt during those times. It was joy, admiration and the secret third emotion that he has been noticing these past few days. He's starting to figure out what it is. "Listen," God, this would be so much easier if he didn't just go through a break up. "I am glad you told me. I need some time to process but maybe in a week we could go on a date or something?"
He could not believe what he was hearing. The guy he liked for the past two years is willing to go on a date with him. No way. "Sure, as long as it's what you want."
"Good, now let's go back to our room, it's getting cold."
They started walking when Morgie noticed what he was still wearing. "Oh, you are going to want this back." He went to go take off the sweater.
"No it's fine. It looks cute on you anyways."
